  • but it's a shame you've only got the Kotaku mauling to go by. Needless to say, Kotaku's translation efforts are appropriate for a blog that's so badly designed.
Was it really that bad? It seemed ok to me.
  • The Inhumanoids scared the crap out of me as a kid. Seeing the woman trapped by the decomposing dinosaur and turned into a giant zombie beast was horrifying. And after everything is said and done the hero goes out of his way to save her and return her to her human form and then amazingly, still tries to hit that shit. Screw that bitch. She's dead. Did he not see her skin fall off? She's the definition of dead and he wanted to live out his necrophiliac fantasies with her. All the other zombies? Killed without mercy.

The one thing I really liked about this show were the two rock monsters that could combine into a single uber form. I wonder what the creators were thinking when this was green lit.

They leave terms untranslated (describing cannon fodder enemies as "Zako chracters", "Kancho" instead of "Chief", "Boss", or simply "Arino" and on screen graphics, such as the description of "Ninja Magic" are left in Japanese) they cut out segments (remember the RPG Queen character describing the Ninjutsu? There's bumpers with her saying stuff (usually it's a King that's doing those parts, it's all a bit complicated and show-in-a-show), there's bits where Arino goes around Japan to visit arcades, little bits pieces about software history and using Game Guides as Shinto(?) literature (It's taken about as seriously as it should, which is to say not at all) ) and the narrator talks as if the video is designed to teach Japanese people English rather than be a show narrated for an English audience.

Finally, Region Blocking is an automatic F Grade from me.

I'm pretty sure they explained what all those things meant (except for Kancho). I didn't have any problem following along.

Are you not in north America? They said they fixed it for Mexico and Canada (and, being in Canada, I can confirm that it works)

Remember, they did actually license it; I doubt they got to decide where it was blocked.

Willingness to licence a show but not secure worldwide except Japan rights thus effectively blocking the show indefinitely?

    That's an automatic failing.

    And a paddlin'

  • Finally did listen to this episode today. Fun Small World story, I have actually seen someone win a game with a single race-power combination. It was a 2-player game, which is probably absolutely necessary to pull this off, and used the Grand Dames of Small World expansion to get the Gypsy race. This race gives you a point for every territory you abandon (very in-line with the Gypsy theme), and these were flying Gypsies, so they could be very opportunistic to where they relocate to. Their opponent was not a pro, but they weren't flat out incompetent either.
  • Since this thread has a strain of trying to find lost cartoons of childhood, here's one from my past. It was an X-Men like super hero team, but more misfit-y. I remember two things very distinctly. There was a zombie character(or otherwise undead) who went to the rock concert that hypnotized a crowd and quipped "I'm more of a Deadhead" and he would have somehow been immune to radiation because there was an episode with some kind of radioactive something and a Jubilee type character ended up sacrificing herself because he couldn't get there in time and died Spock style in the containment unit of radiation poisoning. If anyone remembers this I'd really love to know what the frick it was called.

How old are you Hart? When would the show have aired?

I've never played Team Fortress 2. It's free now, I've downloaded it, still haven't played it.

Isn't what they're offering in their store just cosmetic changes, not weapons or items which give them advantage in play? Guild Wars 2 is also offering F2P where the item mall doesn't sell great weapons, armor, etc.

F2P is running things now, at least when it comes to PC MMOs

My view on used games is that I think that the money that goes into the seller's pocket goes back into buying games, so I don't think the industry is losing that much money.

Now, does anyone remember the cartoon that took place in the future and part of the show was done in live action? It was 90s, I believe.

Yes and no - you can buy weapons in the store, but it's kinda pointless, because you get them from random drops and events anyway. It's just if your impatience is worth the couple of bucks to buy the items.

I want to say early 90s. I think it would have been either slightly before or right around the X-Men cartoon.
  • I was just listening to this, kind of nitpicking, but most kids over 11 breed Pokemon. You can use one Pokemon to make more Pokemon that are the same.
