I don't get it. I mean, it's not just that I don't find it entertaining, I don't get why this is even a thing. The music is... alright and the video is... a video; what about this is making it popular?
I find the video entertaining and the song a little catchy, but I'm not going to actually listen to it in a non-ironic fashion. That said, I want to see someone cosplay guy in the yellow suit at PAX.
It's a chubby Korean guy making fun of himself while dancing and rapping like he's hot shit with sexy honeys all over him left and right. It's the attitude; there is nothing not to love about it.

The guy in the yellow suit is a Yoo Jae-Seok. He's ridiculously famous. He's the MC of many television programs, including Running Man. In fact, someone cosplayed him at ConnectiCon, but not in the yellow suit. He's considered the National MC. All indications are that he's an all around great person. He's also done a few music videos of his own, even though television hosting and comedy are his primary skills. Usually his songs are tounge-in-cheek disco stuff so he brings his comedy in. Here is a really bad vertical video of him doing Apgujeong-Nallary.
Elevator guy is Noh Hong-cheol. He is on the Infinite Challenge show with Jae-Seok.
The subway girl is Hyun-a who used to be on the Wonder Girls, but is now in 4Minute. 4Minute is actually pretty good.
Other idols make minor appearances in the original music video as well.
I have no idea how you say the music is just alright. It's fantastically catchy with a strong beat and a great chorus. There is nothing ironic about it...
I checked out a few other songs on their album, and "What Would Have Been" isn't bad either. Not like "Gangnam Style", but mellow with a nice female voice doing the melody. The album art is high quality.
Other interesting thing. Most other KPop people do not write their own music, lyrics, or choreograph their own dances. They are merely performers who sing, dance, model, and act. PSY is actually a creative guy and did most of the work. I think he may have even directed the music video.
I am actually a fan of LMFAO songs for exactly the same reason as I like this.
Good, catchy songs with a great chorus? Yeah. I find it unfortunate when I meet people (not necessarily you guys) who actively avoid LMFAO and other half-decent pop groups because it "goes against the nerd paradigm" or something. It doesn't matter - if you like it, you like it. Don't make stupid excuses for not giving it a try.

Not to mention a deliberate absurdity I can definitely get behind. I greatly enjoy works that appeal both on a real level and through sheer audacity. See also Warhammer 40,000 lore, Homestuck, Genius: the Transgression, C&C Red Alert.
I like being able to step back from something I enjoy for a moment and go "but seriously, this shit is completely wack" before going back to it.
I also like LMFAO, but they aren't quite as good as PSY. Their dancing skills are lower. Their visual style isn't as badass. And since the lyrics are in English, I can actually comprehend their stupidity. That is the one advantage foreign pop music always has. When lyrics are not understood, their stupidity does not take away from the catchiness.
