  • Oh, I fully blame BL2 for it's shitty multiplayer loot system. And Jason is actually much better about it than my ShackTac friends.
  • I guess the problem is that all my gaming friends are assholes when it comes to loot. :(
Don't blame the player, blame the game.
Pfft. Are you a libertarian, or what?

Having loot divvied by the game would not be an improvement. It would suck.

D3 and TL2 both succeed by giving each player independent drops and allowing trades. BL2 and such shared item games get bogged down in race-to-the-loot idiocy and frequent halts for bargaining and fisticuffs over who gets X blue or orange.

If you want to play that (idiot) meta-game (you idiot), then fine (stupid idiot), but TL2 and such are made to be stress-free, low-processing, casual experiences that run quickly and smoothly. For my $19.99, that works, especially after a shitty day of haggling for resources at the office.

Also, if you REALLY want to complain about a loot whore, look away from me and toward Omar, the King of the Damned.

  • What I actually want to see is a hybrid of loot distribution from a couple different avenues, but that's beyond this thread. Biggest thing is, TL2's method sounds better, but BL2's outdated system is serviceable.
  • What I actually hate so much, that TL2 even has a problem with, is forcing you to actually pick up the loot. You spend about half the game clicking on items to pick them up. At least the gold just gets sweeped up. Still, I would be much happier if every single thing that drops is automatically put into my inventory.
  • This is only good as long as there is a notification that there is loot in your inventory and possibly better than the items you currently have equipped.

This is easily addressed by not playing with assholes. I'd much rather peruse the loot on the ground and take only what I want and leave the rest rather than be forced to sort through my backpack constantly. I play with my brother or my daughter and have ZERO issues sharing loot.

That you even have to waste time examining shit and not playing the game I find irksome.

This, with one modification: Checkbox limiters for auto-pickup of each color. When you start the game, you need cash so you want whites. About level 10, if you're still picking up white items, you're doing it wrong.

ADDENDUM: Borderlands 2 does this right: TL2 needs a mouse-over showing item stats so you don't have to pick up items to compare to your load-out.

Or at least, assholes you like. Breakfast club doesn't really have this problem.

...are you serious here? Loot IS most of the game in Borderlands. If you're looking for a big shooting spamfest play BulletStorm, not this.
  • You should be picking up everything. It's super easy to just transfer to your pet and sell.

I see through the loot for what it is. I attempt to maximize my fun per time rate of return. This is not pausing every five seconds to check if some numbers are bigger than some other numbers.

You say tomato, I say jaded and pedantic. I have a lot of fun reading the little cards and laughing when there's flavor text and when I see an unusual combination. It's a blast for me. I guess I'm a simpleton. :-)
  • It's super easy to pick up loot if you keep names toggled on.
I do give it credit for being easier than almost every other game. I also do keep all the names toggled on, except for the mundane items. That way my inventory fills up with only magical/enchanted and consumable goodies.

Still, I find it really boring in any inventory game to sit around calculating which combination of items gives the maximum benefit. Please give me auto equip option.

Maximum benefit just happens to be relative term. Do you want most hp, most mana, biggest dps or maybe even best frost resistance? I kinda like making the choices like, "Do I upgrade to armor with better defence, or do I keep the old one that gives me bonus on finding magical items." there really isn't easy way to automate that.

  • Optimal is optimal fun per time obviously.

Clearly equipment needs a fun score.

But I don't know how to install cannon to any other slot than on weapon slot. Also I should be able to wield two cannons for maximum fun.

Clearly the game is poorly designed.

Borderlands, especially in the later game, makes the inventory decision much more fun/interesting, since you'll probably have all purple/orange drops, so you're balancing out cool unique effects like regenerating ammo or a ludicrously fast fire rate. I haven't played Borderlands 2 just yet, but my understanding is that they went waaaay bigger with the unique weapons. Not to mention, you end up with more weapon equip slots, so you really spend virtually no time mulling about the inventory screen.

Unless you're playing with other people and end up discussing who gets what, the only time you'll really need to pay much attention to your inventory screen is in the early game, but that's when the game is trying to teach your about inventory management anyway.

Also, just as I was typing this out, No Rest for the Wicked started playing on Pandora. Fuckit, I'm pumped, buying the game tonight.

  • They also introduced another upgrade system called Badass points. If you do certain things in the game, it's like an achievement, but you unlock points that you can redeem to either improve things like:

    Shield Regen Rate
    Reload Speed
    Crit Increase
    Ammo Increase
    Elemental Effects
    and many more.

I think Slag weapons (purple color) are a new elemental type of way to do more damage and I recently got a sniper rifle that deals Slag damage which is getting me more Badass points in that category.

    I like this new feature.
  • Achievements that DO SOMETHING. Also, badass points apply to all characters on your account, not just the character that unlocked them :D
  • You can also send items to your other characters via Clap Trap's locker. Seriously great idea. It's almost like artifact gear in WoW.

Holy shit that's so good... Yeah, god, I'm not sleeping tonight.

So wait, with those badass points that apply to all your characters... Does that mean you can get a whole bunch of points with one character, then when you make a new character, spend those points so they start right off-the-bat with better fire rates and such?

I've only just started BL2 and I am loving it to death. The split screen option is great on XBOX even though it makes the interface hard to use for inventory or the map.

I don't like how they nerfed the Siren though.

That... may be the worst idea I've ever heard. If the game is anything like TL2 (or any Diablo clone) I absolutely do not want everything that is dropped because then I'm forced to go through every single item, look at it, and decide if I want it. Just hit alt and click in areas that have green+ items.
This, with one modification: Checkbox limiters for auto-pickup of each color. When you start the game, you need cash so you want whites. About level 10, if you're still picking up white items, you're doing it wrong.

This I would be okay with.

  • "best" is actually relatively easy to figure out because it is situational. Let's say you get near monsters with ice attack. Obviously it should automatically equip armor for maximum ice armor and maximum fire damage. Let's say you are in a really easy area where not much can hurt you, then max bonuses to xp, gold finding, magic finding, etc. It shouldn't just auto equip once. It should constantly auto re-equip amongst all the things you are holding.

Wow, so all you do is mindlessly pull the trigger while the game manages everything for you? Why not just watch a video of other people playing a game?
  • So you want the game to play the game for you?
