  • I'm super excited that Donnie Yen was in there. I didn't know he was involved!
  • The hype train continues. I'm watching the extras and loving the books.

    Also:
  • This means there's now going to be four prequels.

Ret-con Thrawn. He's human now brahs

That would be some epic fail right there. Who's scared of some lame-o human?
Honestly, even without the blue skin, he looks like the best villain since vader. He looks fucking scary without simultaneously being comical.
Yeah, he seems cool. Just not so cool that his skin turned blue.
    ORIGIN STORY
    One Art Man
  • I think it was supposed to show the knives-edge he was walking, always one guess away from complete failure?
  • Chris asked me why I was so excited about this movie and all I could manage was "because Star Wars."
  • Because Mon Mothma
  • Chris asked me why I was so excited about this movie and all I could manage was "because Star Wars."

Because we really love Star Wars, but we've been burned by terrible Star Wars media, and the prospect of good Star Wars media rekindles the hope that George Lucas killed all those years ago.

  • They're doing what could/should have been done instead of the prequel trilogy. Just make good movies in the universe and slowly expand it.

I fully expect a SWCU just like we have the MCU.
  • We have to watch Star Wars. It is, our destiny.

I was a huge Extended Universe fan back when I was 13, and I'm totally down for "EU, but not written for 13 year olds".

The more I think about it...

Take TIE Fighter. Take Horatio Hornblower. Just fucking bang them together and portray some young officer in the Empire just like Horatio. Just tell those stories.

I mean, Horatio is ostensibly fighting for the bad guys depending on your point of view. He even acknowledges this several times throughout the books. It's too perfect.

Start him as just a TIE pilot who gets promoted through the ranks. Get him in charge of a small squardron doing whatever somewhere. A couple mutinies. Captured and escapes. Eventually he's a Commodore or whatever and is at the helm of a Star Destroyer.

  • Yeah except it's called The Swuniverse, not some dumb acronym you have to spell out.
  • I will never call anything the "swooniverse" ever.

No. I'm tired of reading stories about some measly 3-lifepath characters growing up. Give me the epic level shit. Manatheren style. Here's the main character of my Star Wars movie.

How did you discover my nickname in college?
  • I'll accept Rym's Horatio Hornblower-like Star Wars on two conditions:

    1. Ioan Gruffudd plays our intrepid Imperial Officer.

    2. It takes place on a Star Destroyer named the Indefatigable.

In fact if they were to literally reskin the Hornblower stories in the Star Wars Zone, I would be overly eager for it.

I also agree with Scott that a story about those guards would be epic shit.

I could also stand for a Maz miniseries to be honest.

And of course a drama set in Cloud City would not be outside my interest levels.
  • For better or worse, I don't think Disney is every going to create a movie or TV show that follows a member of the Empire, or shows the Empire in a sympathetic light.
  • Horatio Hornblower sounds like a porno.

    I think you're underestimating Disney.
  • Star Wars movie every year. They make mad bank. We get awesome media to consume and then discuss/argue/troll about. EVERYBODY WINS.

    Right?

If someone told me 16 years ago that Disney was going to save Star Wars AND Marvel. I would probably have laughed at them.......
  • Don't forget they also saved the Muppets for a brief time before creating an awful sitcom.
  • (I actually don't hate the Muppet show)
  • I watched the trailer. It looks like a fun enough movie. Not enough light sabers for me though. Did it have any?

No. Supposedly Vader is gonna straight up murder some fools in the movie, but to be honest, I kind of hope there are zero lightsabers.
  • I kiiiinnnda wish they would stray a little more from the original moves but whatever. Like having all these tie ins to the Death Star and whatnot isn't really doing it for me. I'm sure Disney is like nah your shit needs to be iconic and can't go off in the deep end, but I'd like some video game Star Wars type shit where they mostly disregard events that happened in the movies.
