Shit, all this Star Wars talk is making me want to watch the movies. Again.
How does that happen? What is it about this franchise that automatically raises my nerdboner to full mast?
I was actually thinking about this the other day. Star Wars is like the perfect mix of the best elements of fantasy and science fiction. You have the nostalgia of the mostly-forgotten better past with heroic knights and an evil dark wizard meets cool spaceships and lasers.

That is the most awesome sentence ever written in the history of written sentences.
I'm serious, though. That's a concentration of awesome story tropes, and you're right - Star Wars puts 'em into a blender and pours us a delicious blended drink of childlike wonder.
Star Wars died with the prequels for me. Then something happened around 2012. FFG started pumping out top-notch Star Wars tabletop games, and I had a kid who fell in love with Star Wars. Given that 1-2 punch, I am beyond grateful that there are new movies, GOOD new movies, to take in.

So much possibility, so many proven good spinoffs, great creative freedom? It's the reason why I'd put Star Wars in perfect fanfic territory because it's an untamed wild full of possibilities that tons of authors and creators would love to build on. And that's what these movies are essentially doing.
Rewatching the trilogy after The Force Awakens, I can say Episode 4 & 5 are still wonderful classics but Return of the Jedi has pretty big problems. First hour is kind of a slog with Jabba who isn't that important in the grand scheme of things and the more schlocky romantic elements came out around the Ewoks. It'd be a great movie with all the wonderful scenes if you turned down or cut bits from those pieces of the film.
Also on the Mon Mothma front, she was definitely in Clone Wars for a few episosdes. I don't know the full context of her appearances, because I couldn't bring myself to finish that show.
You just gotta power through Clone Wars and remember that everyone in the Star Wars is an idealistic idiot, and just focus on xwingpewpew and spaceknightwizards.
Are there any plans to make movies about the empire or other bad guys? At least bounty hunters. I want to see bad guys winning. Give me TIE Fighter: The Movie.

I think the next "side-story" movie is the young Han Solo movie (which I'm not thrilled about at all) and after that they're supposedly making a Boba Fett movie, which should have lots of bounty hunter on bounty hunter action.
The next side-story is young Han Solo movie, written by Lord and Miller. After Episode IX in 2019, there's supposed to be a third side-story, the Boba Fett movie. That was originally in the Han Solo slot as 2nd side-story, but the Fett movie has been in trouble. Its director dropped out, and there were problems with the script early on, so now it is 2020.

That's ok, but imperial action is better. Give me some of that good biz between episode III and IV. Darth Vader going around making people sad.
Thrawn isn't like Horatio. He doesn't fuck up. He doesn't have those weaknesses like Spider-Man or whatev. He's just badass and perfect and better than everyone else. The only reason he loses ever is because the force. Magic is the only way to beat someone so smart.
That's how Horatio appeared to everyone around him. You only knew how much of a nervous fuck-up he was if you could read his mind. Other people assumed he was perfect.

Except Thrawn IS perfect and Horatio had to sell his sword to buy food.
When I saw this character, my first thought was Thrawn. Unfortunately, I don't think he is though. If he was blue with red eyes, I would have been ecstatic.
That would be some epic fail right there. Who's scared of some lame-o human?
Honestly, even without the blue skin, he looks like the best villain since vader. He looks fucking scary without simultaneously being comical.
Yeah, he seems cool. Just not so cool that his skin turned blue.
ORIGIN STORY
Has anyone else noticed that in Force Awakens there weren't that many new alien races. They're mostly reusing ones that have been in the movies before. I've never noticed a Chiss (which is what Thrawn is) in any of the 7 official Star Wars movies, but maybe that's just my bad spotting abilities. I wonder if they are intentionally refraining from introducing too many new alien races or not.
The Chiss were an invention of Timothy Zahn. According to EU canon, Thrawn was pretty much the only Chiss living in Empire space, with the rest living in relatively unexplored space.
Also, Thrawn wasn't entirely perfect - he did wind up getting killed by his bodyguard, after all.
