Okay seriously. Fuck you. Speaking as somebody who was unfortunate enough to watch those OAVS, no one should ever watch them under any circumstance ever. There is no enjoyment you can derive from that under any circumstance unless you are a very messed up person. Like torture porn, it revels in how horrible and disgusting it is to the point that it is utterly disturbing and will do nothing but make your flesh crawl.
Jesus wept mate, calm down. He's just having a laugh. Just repeat to yourself "It's just a show, I should really just relax."

In most cases, I would just brush this off, but not in this case. The amount of horror that that work contains is repugnant and distasteful in every way (and even damaging in some cases). You wouldn't joke about Violence Jack if you saw it. No you wouldn't...

You know the kinda horrible garbage I read manga wise, you think I've not seen one of the most mental, violent and generally terrible anime, AND read the manga? If anything, it was ho-hum. The violence quickly grew stale, and failed to shock, and it was ham-handed as hell. It's not bad because it's violent, it's bad because it's boring.
Seriously, dude, just a show. It's not illegal content, it's not immoral, just distasteful. Chill out, forget about it, and relax. If it's not your thing, don't watch it. It's not Citizen Kane, but not everything has to be, and it sure as shit didn't set out to be.

I would posit then that you did not see the fully uncensored version of Violence Jack then if you found it boring. Its actually harder to get a hold of that and the effort I went to to watch it was not worth it. Yeah, but you are indeed correct about me overreacting a little bit, but there are very few pieces of media that really get me going and I lose all sense of self-awareness or control. Violence Jack is just one of them. But its just a difference of opinion, and I'll leave it at that.

Yeah, It's a difference of opinion. You posit incorrectly, and if that's your assumption just because we disagree, then I can't say anything nice about that.
If you recognize that you lose self awareness and control regarding this piece of media, that's not an excuse. That's a signal that you should express greater control when that piece of media comes up.
I can't tell if Geo's trying to be funny, or just appears schizophrenic as fuck. One moment being overly hostile in his own way to an idea, followed by mentioning he'll be there and that it'll be a magnificent time!

So what time are we doing this? I gather Saturday but what time? Also Im in a suicide pact with a gymnast who's brother is a dirty cop....and the chines are after me, so time is a deal yo.
Oh, all I saw was Violence Jack mentioned in the post. How did you even. There's two instances where you could've quoted our loveable WUB mentioning Mad Bull, yet you picked the Violence Jack one.
I stopped following this thread when I thought it wasn't going to go anywhere.
Now that I know it's going Violence Jack, I am so there. (Providing I don't have work.) And will be so drunk, because Violence Jack is completely devoid of redeeming features.
MB34 will be Saturday at 8pm CST, as I have somewhere to be later that evening. I might reschedule VioJack depending on everyone's availability, but I can promise that it will happen, I will be very intoxicated, and it'll be a night to remember.
Go get yourselves a prostitute and an Oreo Cakester to prepare.
For those still interested in watching a bunch of Mamoru Oshii stuff, here's the list.
Dallos, a four episode OVA (each episode being around 30 minutes, so we can just run through them all at once) that is about Moon terrorists on the Moon, and happens to be the first thing he directed that was an original work. Angel's Egg, arguably his weirdest film (I say arguably because of the last thing we'll watch) Patlabor: The Movie, we should see more of Oshii's lighter sides that he never touches with a ten foot pole anymore. Patlabor 2: The Movie, arguably Oshii's best movie, and it only makes sense to watch it after watching the first one. , Osii's latest anime feature film, so let's compare and contrast how he's changed over the years. Je t'aime, a 12 minute short that we'll watch after finishing Skycrawlers, because it is a love story about a Basset hound. Seriously. If you can't wait, you can go find it on youtube.
Everything on the list can be purchased or downloaded, so no worries about not finding a copy to view.
Anyway, I was thinking of doing this like a weekly geekchat; we all load up on Skype, pop in the movie, and watch it together and talk about it. Or a Livestream could be done. One or the other, though I personally prefer the first option. Thoughts?
