Let's face it, there's nothing more English than inventing a sport, and then being beaten at it by every country you teach it to.
Is there a world league for baseball?
I would argue that's an American invention, since while there's a bunch of European folk games that share similarities, the earliest verifiable form of Baseball was invented in America.
Also, another odd fact - the vast majority of Australian baseball players that have played in Major League baseball were Pitchers. Oddly enough, a dude I used to play with when I was a kid, Clinton Naylor, went on to become a reasonably popular minor leauge player in the US. He was playing with the Padres, but I think he's with the Eugene Emeralds at the moment. Fuck, he was a wicked pitcher - carried the fuck out of the rest of us, to be honest.

Granted, it's only kids, but the Little League World Series is an actual world series involving teams from all over the world too.
