you still have the question over whether one parent has the right to force a birth of a human being containing someone else's genetic material.
According to the law the answer is yes. Implicit in the right of a woman to choose to abort is also the right to choose not to abort. So a woman can birth a baby and make the father financially liable even if he did not want to be a father and there is nothing he can do to force an abortion.
There are even cases of women taking a used condom and using the sperm inside to impregnate themselves.
The alternative right now is to potentially force a woman to have an abortion through legal means if a father somehow "won" the right to prevent his genetic child from being born. I'm not sure that's something that should be entertained for even a second. So.. as I was trying to convey before, this debate is entirely moot until some almost trans-human level medical capacity comes along.
I don't particularly like the uneven playing field surrounding the issue but I have to agree with the left in that since the female is required to carry the baby for nine months she should have the power to choose. I just find it interesting to see if people consider that right to be absolute even if science provides other options.
As far as men forcing an abortion? No. Terminating fincial ties to said unborn? I am not sold either way. Part of me is old school and feels that you pay for what you do even if you consider it a mistake..the other part says that if the baby was made via some form of subterfuge (telling the man she is sterile or using sperm from a used condom) he should have an out.
I'm just going to put it out there that birth control pills are used for things other than contraception. They are prescribed for regulating cycles, mitigating terrible debilitating cramps, and treating PMS/PMDD symptoms.
If you are anti-birth-control coverage, then you are pro-PMS. You don't get to complain about women being crazy and hormonal and kicking you in the nuts while their bodies are going crazy.

The fact is that it's medication and it shouldn't matter which application it's being used for. If we're going to provide healthcare, it should be about supporting human rights, never abridging them.
Aw, you had to go and ruin this men's discussion on birth control/abortion. Dammit.
I'm just surprised it went on that long before someone pointed out the "cycle regulation" purpose of birth control pills.
I figured they'd pretty much talked it out.
I am not sure why cycle regulation is in quotes there. As somebody who bleeds to varying degrees approximately 50% of the time, a little regulation would be welcome. Of course, I have no health coverage, so I can't afford the Dr visits to get on something.
Because this shit has been stated so many times over in so many other threads.
I'll just go about checking this thread from time to time, hoping for good news about the end of the shutdown and back to working and not earning.
I'm not sure who you're responding to, Ro.
Steve.
You are cool. Keep staying awesome. I'm just an annoyed furloughed government worker who is one her period that's been regulated due to her free birth control by the ACA. At least that's $40 I get to save right now since I'm not making any money!
I will say at my area, upper management has been furloughed and is not here. My immeadiate supervisor is here and if I take any leave it will pretty much be in an AWOL sort of status depending up approval of my supervisor.
I honestly wish I could be non-essential because then I can actually apply for Washington State unemployment benefits if this last longer than a month.
Why is no one blaming Rym for sending the discussion in this direction? He's the one who brought up abortion and birth control.
Latest polls indicate that only 38% of Americans blame Rym for shutting down the Government Shutdown, 56% blame Steve, and 73% blame House Republicans.
My company has some contract employee's that have been furloughed with the government plus we have some grants and other projects that the government funds that we are a bit concerned about.
Or to take the conversation another way; Who here has been directly affected by the shutdown so far?
Ms Elliot had to delay one of the AP Gov lessons on voting and demographics because the Census website is down. Also, my dad's FIA request to DoD isn't getting processed.

I couldn't find a reliable link for the 'condom stolen sperm' story.

You stay awesome too, Ro.
If Rym controlled your behavior, or the behavior of everyone else on this forum, there would be no discussions. Just one thread of masturbatory wank.

We know that Ro is getting the short end of the stick. Is anyone else starting to feel some unpleasant impacts on a personal level?
Bonus: No surprise visits for the FDA :-p
