  • Here's the whole of my iTunes.

Aquabats, Audioslave, The Beatles, BEAT CRUSADERS, Beck, Blue Man Group, Bottom of the Hudson, Cake, Coheed and Cambria, David Bowie, Deaf Pedestrians, The Doors, Gnarls Barkley, Gorillaz, Green Day, Hellogoobye, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, Kid Galahad, The Killers, Led Zeppelin, Matchbox Twenty, MC Lars, Modest Mouse, Muse, The Pillows, Pink Floyd, Pixies, The Postal Service, The Protomen, Jun Senoue, Sonic Youth, Steely Dan, System of a Down, Talking Heads, Tapes n' Tapes, Tenacious D, They Might Be Giants, Tokyo Police Club, Weezer, Wierd Al Yankovic, The White Stripes, The Who.

I need to ask about The Protomen. Who has heard them? If you haven't, you should. Their album is a metal rock opera telling the story of Megaman. Go buy it.
  • Tallas: I've not yet picked up PoS's newest album. I am in fact behind on new albums that I must acquire; Cannibal Corpse, Slayer, Nile, Mastodon, and a few others all have albums that I have yet to get. I'll put that one on my list. The most recent thing I grabbed was the latest from Blind Guardian, which was quite excellent.

I mostly listen to folk and classic rock, but I also enjoy listening to Daft Punk and Alison Krauss.

By the way, why isn't there a music category?

You could also turn "Art!" into "Arts" to cover music.

Ihatethe overuse of the "-core" designations.
Ok, big shot. What should they call it then?
I think WhaleShark already defended his case quite well. But I'm gonna have to back him up on it. "-core" is being used for so much. Deathcore, grindcore, metalcore Mathcore (yes, fucking MATHcore). What the hell? Seriously, all the derivatives of metal you can get into really pisses me off. I fail to notice a difference between mathcore and metal that happens to be quasi-technical.

But that's just me. Personally, I'm the kinda guy that likes to keep stuff as simple as possible. IMO, rock is rock. There's harder and softer versions of rock, but it's all rock. I do give a special designation for metal, which is in the class of the hardest stuff I listen to (which is pussy compared to what some people listen to nowadays...Underoath is nothing compared to Behemoth...christ). Electronic music, to me, is generally always filed under "techno" (though I have been giving the nod to lyricless techno as "trance", despite that not being the 100% correct definition). Any japanese rock music is jrock....
So yeah, take my genres with a grain of salt, because almost everyone thinks I'm a dumbfuck for how I file music into genres.

Anyways, just because I haven't weighed in yet, here's my list.

Rock- Arctic Monkeys, Bowling for Soup (not really great music, but the funniest live show I've ever been to, and good music to listen to after you end a relationship), Beck, Rage Against the Machine, Wolfmother, Pink Floyd, Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, some Escape the fate, Motion City Soundtrack, Muse, among others....

Jrock- Asian Kung Fu Generation, L'arc en ciel, Acid Android (breakoff group of L'arc), Asaki (yes, a band employed for DDR purposes, but it's awesome shit...actually, it's kinda generic Visual-kei jrock, but I like generic visual kei jrock), Antic Cafe, Des-Row, Luna Sea, Maximum the Hormone, maybe a few others

Techno- ok, so honestly, I mainly listen to stuff from DDR, ITG, and Dancemania...but other stuff in general would be e-rotic (which is on DDR anyways...), Daft Punk, DM Ashura (ok, so he has a song in DDR Ultramix, but his one and only CD so far is excellent), and Kyle Ward (who does music for ITG, but his longer versions of said ITG songs and his non-ITG songs are also awesome).

Rap- stuff from Samurai Champloo, Run DMC, some other old school stuff.

Honestly, lately I've been caring less about what bands I listen to and more on just what genre I'm listening to. Hence, I'm turning to radio stations ('net radio and FM radio) a lot more than I used to. Two genres I've really been getting into lately are techno and classic rock. Most modern rock stations are shit, at least up here in Cleveland.

  • Exhibit A( of many):
    Destroyer
    Radiohead
    Aesop Rock
    Daft Punk
    The Flaming Lips
    The Shins
    The New Pornographers
    Ratatat

    Tettix

Not including the basic older rock like Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, AC/DC, etc. Those were a stage in my musical development after the classical stage. Has anyone else noticed this kind of process or am I just an anomaly?

Also, rap isn't the mass produced shit, because that is just as valuable as the churned out pop songs by this kids who...rrrrrrgh, it angers me. It's about the rap thats lyrics with a beat not a beat with lyrics, abstract stuff, ideas.

  • I now listen to metal nearly to the exclusion of all other forms of music. Notable exceptions are Nick Cave and Tom Waits, but almost everything else I regularly pursue is metal in some form. I've gotten into more black metal and experimental metal as of late: Krallice is a notable example in that direction. I do need to find some new stuff, though; my current rotation is getting a bit tired.
  • Books and music are the closest things to religion that I have... My "favorite" list would be too long to post.

You should. Get the album Skeleton. A warning though, they've got kind of a love it or hate it sound.

If you want some more single songs to check out, look below. As far as albums go, I'd work your way chronologically through them. While Second Stage Turbine Blade and No World For Tomorrow are my favorites, A Favor House Atlantic is from In Keeping Secrets... and Welcome Home is from Good Apollo.... All the albums are great, so it doesn't matter much where you start. I listed these songs chronologically as well, so maybe that will help you too.
