Because we thought it would be much harder for a computer to beat professional humans at Go as early as a year ago?
I was speaking more broadly than just Go but it is a shining example of my point. The speed at which these tasks that were formerly thought to be far off or even impossible are being tackled.
Or maybe I'm a weirdo for remembering that half way through the Human Genome Project less than 2% of the project was complete and it still finished on time.
