Any other combination of specialists allow you to counter them in multiple ways. Oh, he has large shields? I can send an assassin or send a fuck ton of dudes. Oh, they are sending a sabateur? Well, DOUBLE AGENT! No, I'll just assassin him!
Navigator+Smuggler+Martyr? The only way is to have a smuggler+pirate. Maybe. Better hope you picked it and have it nearby...
The pirate, smuggler, and navigator have design issues.
If I had my druthers, I'd adjust the game slightly to ensure that the megacombos can still happen (I love GTR broken shit), but they would require multiple players to collaborate very precisely to use them effectively.
I really like the martyr because it's a double edged sword. But once you hook it up to a navigator, it's reduces the risk for the owner SIGNIFICANTLY.
Along that note, you essentially need the navigator to make the martyr useful. People can easily just send a sub with 1 driller to negate the martyr as long as her range isn't within your range of your outpost. This was done in our game by Scott to Josh's martyr, iirc. Unless there is no one at the post you're sending the martyr to, you can easily mitigate the damage by sending 1 driller to intercept.

I disagree. A martyr is a very powerful counter balance to a large incoming military threat. It's essentially a really big defensive unit saying "Sure, you can try to come and take this mine and all it's dudes, but I'll send my martyr to meet you before you even get the chance"
Point taken. But you could easily take one out with 1 driller, like you tried to do. You just have to make sure you're paying attention if a martyr has been hired.

Never send the Martyr direct unless you can surprise someone. Send it to a third waypoint, and have someone from that waypoint send a sub in the opposite direction. Time it so they hit over your target.
I probably queued up about 30 one and two drill subs over the course of five hours to try and ping her martyr before it took off. Navigator completely trumped that.
I made deals and stuck to them. But, I had to make defensive deals since I wasn't paying attention to the game much for four full days. Thus, my hands were tied at a couple of critical junctures.
My one consolidation? All those specialists are Ro's
Yes, the stupid Double Agent. That admiral is a big loss to my sub speed. No matter. It was fun. So much fun. It's funny to see you trying to send them away to try to escape.
I know attacking you head on from Chongos wasn't going to work, so I directed myself to Proteus and when I was close enough: Navigator, change directions, FUCK YOU!
