Still green here. Atlantic ocean = safety. Just keep reporting people. You guys are probably the only proper source on this info. That and it takes the intelligence gathering out of the loop for me. In the mean time I'm going to find a proper melee weapon. Now that I think of it, there should be a crowbar at home.
Guns are only useful when you have bullets, so having and being proficient in the use of a melee weapon is a very useful survival skill if you have to survive for many years while fighting zombies(unless you happen to have the raw materials and knowledge to make bullets and maintain guns, and even then, a melee weapon is usually faster than a gun at close range).
Melee weapons aren't really preferred. They require too much energy to use.
On the other hand, ranged weapons are much trickier to use (particularly if the zombies require headshots to kill), run out of ammo, require some degree of training, and are prone to mechanical failure. Melee weapons do incur more risk, but they're also more reliable, can be more effective, and (in the case of blunt weapons) require very little training.
In the end, you obviously need a good balance of melee and ranged weapons - the situation dictates the choice of weapon. But I would come down on the side of melee weapons, generally.
Melee weapons require you to get intimately close. You really shouldn't fight unless you have to, anyways, but ranged weapons at least give you distance. Cross-bows and bolt rifles are silent, too.
I saw a preview of it, and it looked ok. I haven't seen a Resident Evil movie and I haven't played a Resident Evil game, so I wouldn't know what to expect.
I think I've seen Resident Evil 1 on TV. It ends with the entire city being empty and a shotgun in a taxy >_>
Either way, back on topic. Melee weapons are easiest. Me not having much arm muscle would probably use either a fire axe or crow bar, depending on which is lightest but still gives me sufficient reach. A very short and light crow bar isn't really that good as weapon. But that way I can take out zombies in my way, or at least floor them to let me pass.
Also, backpack full of rations and a few hairspray cans or something similar with lighters. If your path is clear and a small horde follows you, just set them on fire. Several are bound to burn up completely resulting in easy kills. And hairspray reaches further then a crowbar. Grenades (and incendiary weaponry) work well too. Perhaps lock picks if you have the skill. That way, if you're certain you're safe, you don't have to destroy a door to get into a suspected safe building. And, I recall from a "What would you bring with you during zombie apocalypse" thread that mag lights (spelling?) are great.
I'm a huge RE fan. Going to see the new movie after work today. Watched a little special on it the other day and the zombies look great...almost as good as the Romero zombies. I really enjoyed the first movie and the second one was good...plus Milla Jovovich is the second hottest woman in the world.

Thoughts on Resident Evil 0 coming out tomorrow?
I was talking about the newest movie, Resident Evil (insert new number here)
The last couple of movies were pretty good. They're actually somewhat believable compared to a lot of other zombie movies.
The first game was teh awesomeness. After that, they went downhill.
