Should this mysterious meteorite illness be cause for alarm? Isn't this the way a lot of zombie infestations start?

  • It sounds like a movie beginning. A meteorite...interesting.

    The Andromeda Strain
  • Prepare us Scrym! Just in case.
  • This could be the beginning of something very exciting. Hopefully, Rym, Scott, and Max Brooks have been adequate.
  • Well you never know what could happen in this world.
  • Don't they play old science fiction movies in Peru? Never, never investigate the crash site of the mysterious meteorite.
  • We are in zombie alert yellow.

    LOL.

Still green here. Atlantic ocean = safety. Just keep reporting people. You guys are probably the only proper source on this info. That and it takes the intelligence gathering out of the loop for me. In the mean time I'm going to find a proper melee weapon. Now that I think of it, there should be a crowbar at home.
  • I have a billy club that belonged to my stepfather. Useful or not? I could always attach a knife to it.
  • Melee weapons aren't really preferred. They require too much energy to use.
  • Guns are only useful when you have bullets, so having and being proficient in the use of a melee weapon is a very useful survival skill if you have to survive for many years while fighting zombies(unless you happen to have the raw materials and knowledge to make bullets and maintain guns, and even then, a melee weapon is usually faster than a gun at close range).

On the other hand, ranged weapons are much trickier to use (particularly if the zombies require headshots to kill), run out of ammo, require some degree of training, and are prone to mechanical failure.  Melee weapons do incur more risk, but they're also more reliable, can be more effective, and (in the case of blunt weapons) require very little training.

In the end, you obviously need a good balance of melee and ranged weapons - the situation dictates the choice of weapon.  But I would come down on the side of melee weapons, generally.

  • Melee weapons require you to get intimately close. You really shouldn't fight unless you have to, anyways, but ranged weapons at least give you distance. Cross-bows and bolt rifles are silent, too.

They're also inaccurate, and easily blown off course in the wind...
  • Well you're as good as dead if you're wasting ammo taking shots in conditions like that.
  • Just because it seems kind of related...

Thoughts on Resident Evil 0 coming out tomorrow?
  • I don't watch much TV, I seen for the first time, a preview for this film today.

Didn't that come out for GameCube years ago?

Sorry, was recently playing the game. >.<

I was talking about the newest movie, Resident Evil (insert new number here)
  • IMDB says it's 3.
  • I saw a preview of it, and it looked ok. I haven't seen a Resident Evil movie and I haven't played a Resident Evil game, so I wouldn't know what to expect.

    Ah. Ok.

The last couple of movies were pretty good. They're actually somewhat believable compared to a lot of other zombie movies.

The first game was teh awesomeness. After that, they went downhill.
  • Resident Evil 4 was win.
  • I saw a preview of the movie, and it looked terrible.  So, so terrible.
  • The remake of the original for the GameCube was my favorite. I was thoroughly creeped out by that one girl.
  • I think I've seen Resident Evil 1 on TV. It ends with the entire city being empty and a shotgun in a taxy >_>

Either way, back on topic. Melee weapons are easiest. Me not having much arm muscle would probably use either a fire axe or crow bar, depending on which is lightest but still gives me sufficient reach. A very short and light crow bar isn't really that good as weapon. But that way I can take out zombies in my way, or at least floor them to let me pass.

Also, backpack full of rations and a few hairspray cans or something similar with lighters. If your path is clear and a small horde follows you, just set them on fire. Several are bound to burn up completely resulting in easy kills. And hairspray reaches further then a crowbar. Grenades (and incendiary weaponry) work well too. Perhaps lock picks if you have the skill. That way, if you're certain you're safe, you don't have to destroy a door to get into a suspected safe building. And, I recall from a "What would you bring with you during zombie apocalypse" thread that mag lights (spelling?) are great.
  • I'm a huge RE fan. Going to see the new movie after work today. Watched a little special on it the other day and the zombies look great...almost as good as the Romero zombies. I really enjoyed the first movie and the second one was good...plus Milla Jovovich is the second hottest woman in the world.
