One of the first Lego sets I ever had as a kid was a space shuttle. It was awesome. This was back in the days when the "Lego Mania" commercials were airing on US TV (probably before I was even in first grade) and everything in the main line was built from brick-compatible pieces--all the rod and pin stuff was strictly a part of the older-kids Technics line. The shuttle fit a pilot, and had an opening hatch to release a robotic arm (articulated! With claws!) and had its own booster that could separate, with a truck to haul the thing around, and landing gears to help it touch down. There were stickers to mimic the ceramic tiles, as well.
It's no surprise, then, that when I saw this, I nostalgia'd harder than any other moment in my life, and felt a familiar childlike yearning like I did when I opened up that set more than a decade ago. I'm holding back the man-tears.
just found out I could go to any university in Canada on the military's bill. I'm applying for U of BC Okanogin campus now too, so I might escape the hellhole yet!
