That article really descends into the one-sided awfulness that depression brings on. He's got it right at the end, though.
I don’t believe anymore that the answer lies in more or better tech, or even awareness. I think the only thing that can save us is us. I think we need to find ways to tribe up again, to find each other and put our arms around each other and make that charm against the dark.
There is a missionary organization near where I live. Most of them were born in or spent a lot of time in Papua New Guinea or Indonesia. They are excessively happy, wholesome people; not because they're Christians, but because they're tribesmen. They know, intuitively, that the best way to live is like an islander. They make families out of the strangers around them, produce and reuse all the resources they can, and share them all with their people. They even use social networking better than most because they have a real community to organize. I've never seen groups of unrelated people this creative and close-knit anywhere else.
This got me thinking; would it be feasible to kiclstarter a new country or city-state? Like but some lands from some shit poor country and make something that actually works instead of this bullshit.
Looking at the results, it's far more likely that it's a lab error. They had a unit that produced thrust - but they also had a unit that was modified to produce no thrust, which still produced thrust.
As the report puts it: "Thrust was observed on both test articles, even though one of the test articles was designed with the expectation that it would not produce thrust. Specifically, one test article contained internal physical modifications that were designed to produce thrust, while the other did not (with the latter being referred to as the "null" test article)."
So, it's either lab error, or they've accidentally designed an engine that produces thrust even when it's intentionally modified to not produce thrust. And also pretty much breaks conservation of momentum, I think, but I might be way wrong because I are not physics good.
There's also a few other signs that this might be bullshit - for example, the designer's explanation of how it works is utter nonsense, and it's also essentially functionally identical to the long-debunked EmDrive.
I don't know, NASA seems awfully confident in their scientific rigor. And they're proposing it works with a quantum vacuum so it probably has exhaust, just not exhaust we can currently measure.

Then I thought, "What if Vince McMahon's theme was Pacific Rim?"
But then I realized this was a better dumb idea.
I never thought I'd piece that sentence together.
Nah, fixed it for ya, good buddy.
Yeah, you heard me.
