A little heart warming story from an unlikely source.

  • Teenageengineering just got alot more fun.

    It's like Gameboys, for music.
  • But Justice Samuel Alito, at least, was dubious about whether the Court should do so. Instead, Alito seemed to suggest that the federal government had only issued the regulations to game the system: although the FHA was passed in 1968, HUD didn’t issue the regulations until over forty years later, seven days after the Court had first agreed (in another case) to decide the disparate-impact question itself. That led to a humorous moment, in which Verrilli told Alito that he “didn’t mean to be flip about it, but I do think it overestimates the efficiency of the government to think that” it could issue regulations in just seven days.

A related question for Churba or anyone else who is into cricket: How does the Big Bash League compare as T20 leagues go? Willow gives us the IPL and Big Bash and international games that seem to be played on the side with ODIs and tests, but I have no real sense of scope on my own.
Also, that seagull is indeed awesome.

It would be a stretch to say I'm into cricket(though listening to it on the radio is oddly relaxing), but BBL is a pretty good leauge. Seems to be pretty high skill, as much as I can judge these things.

I don't really watch that much anymore but my brother and Dad still do. T20 version of the game forces much more risk and is a less of a test of endurance or strategy and more of who will mess up first. It was fun to watch initially especially when all the top talent from around the world was in the one league but I stopped watching or listening when I had other things to do.

I preferred ODI's but there would always be a test or a test series during the Summer which would grab the attention of everyone in the family because someone was doing something amazing or a new player was making a name for himself. The undertone of most "professionals" is that the ODI and Test series are the real game and the Test games are the realest.

Like Churba I only have a mild interest if not less (we might leave it on in the background while playing a game.

  • Oh, I know ODIs and tests are the realest forms of cricket, but there is no way on God's green earth I'm going to watch an 8 hour session in one go. If Willow was a common TV channel or someone broadcast it otherwise I'd tune into those, but otherwise they are something I put on when I'm falling asleep.
  • This reddit thread: Describe an anime with a Spongebob Squarepants quote.

This is probably the best one.
Spongebob: "Well, what do you usually do when I'm gone?"
Patrick: "Wait for you to come back."

  • Shamelessly stolen from Victor's FB: I Write Like. Apparently I wrote like Mario Puzo in 9th grade, William Gibson in 10th, and now I write like David Foster Wallace -- interesting, since I've never read any of them, and I hadn't even heard of Mario Puzo.

In high school for a senior paper I had to write about differences in various literary aspects between books by an author. Since I was really into Chuck Palahniuk at the time I wrote about his first three books. My paper did horribly and I had to rewrite it. The teacher said I had done great analysis but I was writing in a bunch of fragmented segments which I probably picked up from reading his books so close to writing the paper.

A very interesting take on the environmental movement and it's place in our national consciousness.

  • Now I'm curious to see Scrym's results...
  • I got James Joyce. Wut.
  • I got Arthur C. Clarke.
  • I tested on a handful of writings that I could find that actually had paragraphs and I got a couple Dan Browns and some Lovecrafts.
  • My letter to Holder resulted in Lovecraft. I wonder who it does and doesn't have in its database. That piece was clearly most akin to 19th century political treatises, rather than any fiction.
  • From my facebook post:

After feeding 11 of my long form writings into "I Write Like", I got the following data back:
    Cory Doctorow: 7
    James Joyce 1
    H.P. Lovecraft 1
    Arthur C. Clarke 1
    David Foster Wallace 1
  • Now I'm trying various other authors to see what it thinks they write like, but nothing interesting is turning up, aside from Hunter Thompson apparently writing like HP Lovecraft.
  • Dan Brown for Arts subject essays.
Isaac Asimov for Engineering and Computer Science papers.
David Foster Wallace for a short story. :grey_question:
