  • I hereby fine you 20 Schrute Bucks.
Your money has no value here. The standard currency is Stanley Nickles.
  • What's the exchange rate on those?
  • The same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.
  • The Office is back, with a Dinner Party.

    Did anyone catch it?

At first I was thinking that was the most awkward episode of The Office yet, and that's really saying something. But then I realized that that episode had catharsis. Most episodes just build and build, and NEVER release. Which I think is worse. Or, for a connoisseur of fine awkwardness such as I like to consider myself, better.

This is what I think will happen. Michael is about to leave Jan but then we discover that she is pregnant. Well, maybe not but It looks like the next episode will be Michael going out in a blind date with someone.

  • My household is obsessed with the series. I wrote a spec script sending Jim and Dwight on jury duty and Andy got hyped up on an experimental caffeine candy.

It's the only American TV show I'll watch weekly. The dinner party episode made me cringe more than Prison Mike or Gay Witch Hunt, which is only a credit that there's an actress out there who can steal the show from Steve Carell. I know it's gonna be a while, but I really want to see Dwight and Angela back together, if nothing else, to give Dwight something else of hers to stuff in a freezer.
  • I was actually watching this on Netflix on-demand not too long ago. It's not bad. ^_^

One of us... one of us!
  • I've never seen the BBC or NBC versions... I hear they're both equally awesome though.
  • Nah, I thought the episode was good, though it's hard to say whether my opinion is biased or not (due to the writer's strike and all).

Also, major props to that horribleamazing song that Jan was obsessed over.

I thought the episode was witty and awkward, just like every episode of "The Office" should be.
  • I was laughing my ass off watching the dinner party ep.

    How about that plasma TV?
  • You took me by the hand.
    MADE me a MAN.
    That one NIIIGHT.
    You made EVERYTHING ALRIIGHT.

    Absolutely, I do.

    And, favorite episode so far?
Mine would have to be "The Injury" and "Survivorman"

"I like the smell of fresh bacon in the morning. Sue me. "

I saw it, nice return, different feel than usual, more awkward. My favorite thing was when Michael used a "thats what she said" as a argument in his and Jan's fight. I lulz.

Who is everybody's favorite caharacter? Mine: Dwight, hands down. ( I even have the bobble head)

  • To be honest, for some reason...Andy.

I didn't like him too much at first, but his advances towards Angela are quite entertaining. Also, he's wants to be the "alpha-guy" and does whatever he can to be one, but he just...isn't, nor will he ever be.
  • I think Angela might be my favorite. Or Toby.

So HAS anyone seen the BBC version? It's also great, of course, and the US version stuck pretty closely for the first couple seasons (which is all they made of the BBC show) but it's kinda different in a lot of ways. It's a lot more understated. The Dwight-analogue character in particular... Dwight is so over the top, but his counterpart in the BBC version, I could see that guy actually existing, and that makes him way creepier.
  • I am a bit of a snob with this series. It is the BBC version or nothing. For me this is one of those series that stands up there with the best of comedy shows made. I tried watching some of the US version but found it painful in comparison. I have heard it gets a lot better but I'll stick with watching the version I love again instead.
  • The US version was really good for a while but it's kinda jumped the shark for me. Thank God Gervais knew how to end a series when it's ahead, and go on to make even more brilliant TV, like Extras Series 2.

Though I like both th BBC and NBC version, I prefer the NBC version. It seems to make each character somewhat likable/sympathetic. This takes it a little more out of the Seinfeld zone of having completely unlikable characters (that I couldn't stand to watch) and into a more "human" show.

  • I tried watching the BBC version, but the problem I ran into is references to people that I have never heard of. I am assuming that these jokes would be just as funny if I knew...

Wow, if that is true then my favourite comedy shows are all about unlikeable characters. Seinfeld, BBC The Office, Fawlty Towers...maybe there is something to this unlikeable thing.
  • I liked the Seinfeld characters because they were perfectly honest. That's what the show was about; human nature and the ridiculous social filters we use to mask it. George was my favorite because you could always count on him to do the absolute most honest, horrible thing.
  • I don't think it is such a stretch to find similar characters in real life like those being portrayed in The Office. I work in a software place and it is riddled with unlikeable characters that you'd think could only be invented for sitcoms. It is funny though my ex-brother in law used to ridicule David Brent's obnoxious behaviour and yet he himself shared many of the character traits that made Brent so despicable at times. It makes you wonder if there are any characters that you are laughing at which are actually close approximations of yourself.
  • The lold at the last Pam and Jim scene from the last episode.
  • Yeah, definitely. That moment really gave me a gigantic smile.
  • "...it's going to kick your ass, Beasley."
  • I was really afraid that Pam and Jim getting together would kinda ruin it, but they've handled it really well.
  • So, I watched the season finally yesterday and it was bitter sweet to say the least. I mean finally Michael find a girl that is cute and interested truly on him and he goes for the pregnant lady that had artificial insemination while going out with him? Also, what is your problem Andy that was Jim and Pam's moment :S
Besides that this season was awesome and I just can't wait for the next season. I want to see how well Pam's adapt to the New York life and if his relationship with Jim will stand that distance :D
  • Haha, well. At least they were unpredictable. :P
