OMG GIANTS IN SUPER BOWL

  • That was a great game... I really didn't think the Giants were going to beat Greenbay...even at the very end. I thought the kicker was going to miss for the 3rd time in OT, but he nailed it. I wonder what the spread will be for the Superbowl? If I were a betting man, I would actually put money on the Giants for the upset... depending on the spread, of course...
I think I read that it's New England by 14.
Pats are giving 14 to the Giants? Even if I wasn't a Giants fan I'd take that bet. Even if the Giants don't win, I think they'll be able to keep it within one score.

I agree with you completely Jive Turkey, that game last night was amazing. When there was four seconds left on the clock and they missed that field goal for the win, and then on top of that, Green Bay won that coin toss, I thought my team was dead. However, one interception later, and an even longer field goal for the win, there was much rejoicing last night.

the Giants are +12 or +12½ depending on the book total set at 53½ (offshore)
Giants are +13 and 54 (vegas)

I work at a sportsbook, thats the average line, and yes, the pats barely won last time they faced the giants, and they had home field advantage, now they are playing on a neutral field and still get -12.
  • Poor Americans.
Go back to watching your boring Cricket.
Only test cricket matches are boring the rest is all good.
Unless you are beating the Aussies, in which case any game of cricket is good, scrap that, if you are beating the Aussies, any game is good.

20/20 is easily the best form of cricket though and the only version of the game I would go see live.
  • The Giants definitely exceeded my expectations for this season, mostly because I expected nothing from them. I also think that the Patriots* areslightlyoverrated. The Patriots* definitely deserve some credit for their undefeated season, but I don't think they're as dominant as most people seem to think.
I think Brady is a little overrated just because his O-line is amazing... anytime you see a QB just standing in the pocket for 30 seconds with no pressure... even a bad QB can find an open guy. But, I wouldn't say the Patriots are overrated at all. The Patriots have a ton of weapons this year... it's going to be hard for the Giants to shut them down completely. As much as I like to see the underdogs win, it would also be cool to see history in the making if the Patriots go 18-0 which has never been done.
  • I'm happy that we're getting a team which was able to put up such a good fight earlier this season. I think one of the overlooked reasons why the Patriots have been doing so well, though, is that Belichick has studied John Boyd's ideas pretty well.
  • Well it will be an interesting two weeks until the Super Bowl. I just have to hope that the Giants win so the world around me is not filled with an unbreakable cloud of darkness that and I would like to see the Patriots lose.
  • Well, I hope it is as good as the last game of the season. I've been saying that the season ender of the Patriots vs the Giants was a better Super Bowl game than a lot of the Super Bowl games have been recently.

Oh great. Here we are, having a nice conversations about cricket, which we all agree is god's gift to his children, and you had to go spouting off your racist nonsense, you foul little English and/or New Zealandish person. Shame on you.

I agree. Anyone who claims cricket is boring should really see a game of 20Twenty. 20Twenty is to cricket as blernsball is to baseball.

Well if you stopped beating us in all the sports that matter (Rugby League, Cricket and even Football!) then I wouldn't have to hate you as a nation would I?

It's currently halftime of the Super Bowl. I have to say, the Giants aren't disappointing me. The defense is looking great, keeping the undefeated Pats to only 7 in the first half, and that was only because of a bonehead penalty.

The downside is the offense has made a few mistakes. I cursed out loud when we turned it over in the red zone! That being said, Giants being down 7 to 3 going into the second half isn't bad at all. Maybe its the fan in me, but I think if we can tighten up the offense and keep strong on the defense, we could pull out a win here!

Is anyone else watching? I know you were excited about the Giants getting into the Super Bowl, Scott, but I also know you guys don't have TV in your house. Are you skipping the game or did you go somewhere to watch it?

Oh one more thing, if anyone is watching it, did anyone else find it really annoying to hear the announcers remind us about a hundred times that Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are playing at halftime? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone thats watching the Super Bowl was going to stop watching but decided to stick around because Tom Petty will be singing later.

  • Biggest upset in football history?
  • Congrats to the Giants. They really put the pressure on Brady and made it happen. And the Houdini escape of Manning and the last drive to the touchdown was very very nice.
  • I think its the second biggest upset in NFL history.
  • I'm not a big football fan, so I don't care so much. However, I will be able to coerce my dad into doing ANYTHING for the next few days. ^_~

    So, yay Giants!
  • Amazing. I never expected them to win, but I really hoped they would. That's pretty big in football history.
  • They said the Giants couldn't get past the first round. They said the Giants couldn't beat Dallas. They said there was no way the Giants could win against the Packers in the frozen tundra. They said there was no way the Giants could beat the undefeated Pats.

What the hell do they know?

That was an awesome game!!! There is much cheering in the DiFolco house right now. Hey Scott, I know you don't talk about that stuff on Geek Nights, but you have to mention this tomorrow night!
  • Brady must have been hurt worse then he let on, but the Giants really surprised me and played excellently.

Wow... awesome game. I had a feeling the Giants would cover the spread, but never expected them to win. I wonder how Tiki Barber feels? Tiki bad-mouthed Eli and Coughlin in the beginning of the season... I wonder if he wished he didn't retire.

  • That was a brilliant game.
  • It was boring until the last five minutes.
  • Oh my god. This game was amazing.
  • Holy shit, that catch. Holy shit. You know which one I'm talking about.

    Great game.

I know the one mean, that will be a highlight for years to come. Not only did Eli somehow manage to not get sacked, but he somehow scrambled away, got off a pass down field, and somehow Tyree caught it and held on! Landing bent in half on his back on top of his defender, how did he manage to hold on? That was just amazing!

I live in the town the stadium's in. It's interesting listening to the police scanner.
  • Unreal... I agree with WiP, the game was a total snorefest until the last five minutes.
