e3 '08

edited July 2008 in Video Games
I find it extremely surprising that no one is talking about e3 here. So far Microsoft's been the only ones to hold their conference, but Nintendo made an announcement already with their new wiimote attachment. Microsoft pulled out a bunch of stops by announcing that FFXIII is coming to 360 and Live Arcade is getting a Portal game. I think Sony needs to do something drastic to deal with the blow that is losing Final Fantasy exclusivity. What do you guys think?

  • Duck Hunt is a near certainty, but I'm hoping for Hogan's Alley.
  • I hope to soon see an awesome sword game for the Wii.
  • I have a feeling that Nintendo is planning to just pull out one or two things that will easily help them keep the momentum. At this point, all they need to rule the world is an announcement of new Wii colors.
  • I hope to soon see an awesome sword game for the Wii.
Maybe they will bring back Project HAMMER that mysteriously disappeared.
  • Final Fantasy stop being a Sony exclusive a long time ago.

When I saw that game way back when I was so hyped.
  • It's interesting that, now it's no longer this huge thing fans can get to opposed to a vendor to vendor thing, most people seems to have let it slip by.
  • I have no real hopes for Nintendo unless they whip out a Pokemon MMO. Sony will probably talk about two or three games that are worth having. Microsoft had a bunch of awesome looking games for the gamer, but their casual stuff seems pretty assy.

E3? Didn't they kill that several years ago? Sure seems like they're doing their best to. I mean, first they get rid of the booth babes. Then they break it up into multiple warehouses and hotels all across town. Then it's only for the big game companies and fans/small companies are excluded. They need to put a bullet into the head of that zombie already...

I was pleasantly surprised to read that I'll soon be able to get Netflix on my 360. No need to hook up a PC to the TV or go out and spend a C-note on a Roku box (which, IMNSHO, was a redundant piece of hardware when it was launched.)

  • I just watched the Fallout 3 trailer, and I now have an urge to name my character Kellhus when I finally play it.

    I stopped caring because...

My feelings exactly (except I'm really excited about Netflix on 360). Nintendo's gonna have Animal Crossing and (I bet) Kid Icarus as guarantees, but, unless there's Pokemon, I don't think there's going to be anything groundbreaking (and I don't think there will be any new white plastic accessories)...

...unless this has some speck of truth to it and there truly is a Flying Spaghetti Monster...

  • Nintendo's gonna have Animal Crossing
While I am looking forward to Animal Crossing, I don't know how much I will end up playing it. For the first six months of an Animal Crossing game I play it all the time, but eventually something comes up and I stop playing it.I haven't touched Animal Crossing for the GC or DS since sometime last year. On a side note Nintendo needs to have some sort of connectivity so that I can have my character from the DS version on the wii that way I have one less character to not play as.
  • That rumor is the only new direction Zelda could possibly go.
  • Oh, Nintendo announced Chrono Trigger DS. Not at E3, but it's been announced. They also announced Pokemon Platinum for Japan awhile ago....so I can't see a Pokemon MMO coming anytime soon.

I can't wait to get a 360 and throw my Wii in the old console pile. I'm so sick of the Wii's lack of online play. I only have, like, three people I can play with, and all of us have different taste in games. The best example of Nintendo's paranoia of its wi-fi is in Pokemon online. You couldn't do random battles with people online. There's no communication, so why can't I do anonymous battle? Nintendo sucks. The Wii also lacks hardcore games.

WTF? Yeah you have your opinion, however what do you mean by "hardcore" games?

Nah, the game could keep the same setting and do everything exactly like Zelda has been for the past 10 years and it would still sell a billion copies. Nintendo is not a company to radically change the setting of a signature franchise (Advance Wars being one exception).

Also, this is delightful (although it contains some NSFW language)

Oh, and for the hardcore games argument: the wii has the most hardcore line up, considering there are +100 classic games on the virtual console. If you're going to complain that the games on your console are too kiddie, man up and play some Gunstar Heroes or Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
And no, I am not a Wii fanboy. Actually, I only own a 360. I just can't stand people who throw the word hardcore around. Nothing in this generation compares to the text adventures and grindfest RPGs of yesteryear (not that I'd prefer to play those).

They didn't show any real games for their press conference. Gamers are being abandoned.

Oh ho! So no immediate news of an immediately new game means that Nintendo has abandoned us! They're shutting down the store! Wiis will self-destruct! AAAARRGH!

  • Sony's conference will be interesting, I've seen lots of people saying that it has to "save" the show. I don't think they have much planned to counter Microsoft's showings, but we'll just wait and see.
  • I have a Wii...and my sister uses it, so I can't sell it. But personally I think it's one of the biggest pieces of shit out there. Only saving graces: Brawl, Mario Kart, and the VC.
Take that away, and it's almost all trash. I'm not a big fan of the 3d versions of Zelda, Metroid, or Mario....so that's why I didn't even list those games.
  • But personally I think it's one of the biggest pieces of shit out there. Only saving graces: Brawl, Mario Kart, and the VC.
Heh, on the same note, I think the Xbox 360 is a piece of shit. Only saving graces: Good online pla-oh wait... You have to pay a monthly subscription fee..., then... ehm... ehm... EHM... Yeah, the Xbox 360 is a piece of shit. The Playstation 3 is even worse. I can think of ZERO (0) saving graces, it also costing the most isn't helping its case.

    Oh how wonderful opinions are.

    I agree with this statement.

So, I think we've all learned that every console sucks.

Well...XBLA, Orange Box (then again, that ain't exclusive...), Halo 3 (then again, it wasn't that good), Call of Duty (oh wait, that isn't exclusive)....yeah...so nevermind.

What was up with Xbox-Mii thing? That seems kinda dumb...
(Yes, I can't back that up as to why. I just though I should put that out there)
