All Along the Watchtower was quoted, and the quote itself made sense in context, but that doesn't mean it was played in the book and it doesn't mean it had to be played in the movie. There was a quote at the end of every chapter but, as far as I remember, the movie ignored most of them. If they really felt the need to play that song, it would have made more sense to play it when Doctor Manhattan and the Comedian were in 'Nam.
The only song I specifically remember being played in the book was that Billie Holiday song, You're My Thrill, Dan played for the fire victims while they were riding away from the fire in Archie, but they didn't play it in the movie.
