My grandfather was taken to hospital with a suspected mini-stroke. Turns out it was worse than that, and has been moved to a different hospital because of a brain hemorrhage. He might die tonight.
Well Luke, 89 is above average, hopefully he lived a full and happy life and you and your family get to say their goodbyes, we all have a day. If he makes it, well the better then, if not I can only hope is painless, good luck and a none religious Godspeed.
Staffers are told via our online manual/wiki that Tuesday night is "Hygiene Night," and everyone HAS to shower that night (or Wednesday morning). Not sure how we'll enforce it. Probably raffle tickets.
What the fuck, every night should be "Hygiene Night"!
Many kids won't shower when they're away from home.
Many kids (and for that matter some adults) won't shower in a communal shower, either. I figure they were probably traumatized by the showers after gym class or something. As for the pooping thing, I can see where they come from on that - I generally prefer to use my own bathroom, or at least one I trust, because I have been in some seriously nasty public restrooms before and you couldn't have paid me enough to sit on one of those stools. Not to mention there's the aforementioned "John Wayne Toilet Paper" situation. I think I've finally got my girlfriend talked into not buying that cheap stuff anymore. Life's too short to have to wipe your ass with a corn cob, y'know?
As for my own FAIL: Been at work since 8:00, haven't been able to get jack or shit done thanks to the interruptions. Nothing like being half a day behind on the stuff you wanted to get done.

I've been to many a camp, and I never noticed this problem with females.
...Although there was that time I visited my college campus before my freshman year, and we were all supposed to stay overnight in a dorm together. They put all the girls in a boy's dorm with very questionable looking (cleanliness-wise) communal showers. Faced with the option of taking a shower with a bunch of girls I didn't know in grungy bathroom, and not showering, I chose the latter. Although I did bring my washcloth and smelly girly fruity spray stuff, so I got to clean myself up a bit at the sink. >_>
That is a beautiful turn of phrase. So much better than just calling it sandpaper or single-ply.
'Cause it's rough, and it's tough, and it don't take shit off nobody, pilgrim!

Hey, a sink bath is better than no bath at all, and if you're only going to be out in the boonies (so to speak) for a few days, that may be all you need.
OS4 update on Ye Olde Tyme iPhone 3G has taken over 3 hours and I now must go to work without a phone. This should be.... interesting.
I've gone through it as well, it does indeed take a long time. It seems to make a whole backup of everything, delete it all and install the update, then re-add everything back.
What the fuck, every night should be "Hygiene Night"!
Oh, I totally agree, I'm not sure what the idea behind Hygiene Night is either. Rym's right, though.
Hygiene Night: Yes, you read this right. Some of our campers are more than happy not to shower all week. We want to promote proper hygiene. Set the expectation - everyone has to shower Tuesday night (or Wednesday morning) at a minimum.
Also:
Interestingly, they often won't poop if they can help it either.
Haven't heard this before. Not that I don't believe you, but... what the hell...?

I find that sometimes I don't poop for a few days if I'm away from home. I'm not trying not to, it just doesn't happen. And I usually poop at least once a day.

Is this mainly a toilet paper thing? You guys should start bringing your own toilet paper with you, or better yet, baby wipes. They can work wonders if you can get past the "baby" part of it.

Same, I don't consciously avoid it.
Yep same here. That usually happens whenever I go camping.

No it's not that. I think its some strange instinct or something subconscious because its not really anything intentional.
Girl I'm supposed to go watch this football match with asked if it was okay to bring people along, including at least one other guy. The answer, of course, was yes, but still. Fucking augh, man.
Maybe I should correct myself. It isn't an outright repeal but a change, perhaps a small correction. However, there are several problems with the proposed change: 1) It displays the conservatives hypocrisy about the constitution that they like to parade around like an unquestionable and unchangeable document. 2) The proposed change would deny citizenship to people born to U.S. citizens not born on U.S. soil. 3) It is another thinly veiled attempt trying to make immigrants out as a scapegoat and does not address the real problem: Employers exploiting illegal immigrants.
I am also disillusioned with the concepts of citizenship and nationality as a whole as I do not believe they serve any real purpose than an arbitrary distinction between people, basically separating the whole of humanity for no reason whatsoever and serving for unfounded differing treatment between people.

They serve two very important functions. One, resources are scarce, and they are part of a massive system of economics we've built for the last many thousand years to deal with that reality. Two, they allow different people to have different civics.
A nation is a family effectively. Most are born into them, some adopted, some coerced. They're a useful delimiter in a world where there aren't enough resources for everyone, and many people desire or require different civics.
How well would socialism fare in Scandinavia if the whole world could participate freely?
Nations are primarily economic forces, secondarily civic ones.
Ah Politics, When the other side is so scary even if your annoyed at the wishy washyness of your own party you would never EVER vote for the other guys.. because you never go full retard.
Maybe we need a few states to do just that: go full retard. They would collapse, as any intelligent citizens with the means would leave over time.
Imagine a future where every state of the union allows gay marriage except Texas, Arizona, and Utah. Where every state of the union has universal healthcare except Texas, Arizona, and Utah. I'm worrying more and more that the only way to disavow these people of their ludicrous political stances is to let them stew in their own juices.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I'm very sorry.... =(
* Ban Gay Marriage
* Make Sodomy illegal again
* Ban Stem Cell Research
* Teach the "controversy" about evolution, global warming, political philosophies, "and others"
* Change the 14th Amendment to the Constitution
