My Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is covering my van repair! This single repair compensates for the difference in cost between a new and used vehicle. Buying a new vehicle was a good choice for once! ^_^
Fits are okay. I just don't think they offer much more than a Kia Rio 5 (which has a much nicer price point)
Exactly, there are many fine vehicles in that market segment. The Saturn Astra and Nissan Versa are other such cars. I'm curious as to why the Fit is the superior choice here.
Oh, poopy! I forgot I posted the booyah and didn't see the replies! Sorry. @funfetus: The light is faint but I can finally see it. For me that means my work on big chunks of art is done and I'm starting to tackle little polish items. For instance instead of making a world map art, I'm changing the colors to the upgrade room text! World map art is fun to make but seeing things get prettier and cleaner feels really good too. @LordYupa: It's a 2d downloadable game. I don't have a link to a project page. I've been meaning to make a little dev blog. I'll post the link when I get to it! I also have to take my old site and turn it into a game development site. @gomi: Secret, secret indeed! I think I should try to develop some sort of buzz for this thing. Like Guns of Icarus!

I would venture to say that Honda's are overall made better and last longer than brands like Kia.
But how much more? Is it enough to compensate for the price difference?
A brand new Honda Fit is about $400 more than a brand new Kia5 outfitted identically (or as identically as they can be). That's not really that much of a difference.
If you're looking at the used car market, Hondas have a ridiculous resale value, so the prices are going to be significantly higher.
Hmm... When I looked as a KiaRio5, the MSRP was aproximately 15,140. When I looked at a Fit for some of teh same features it jumbed to almost 19,000.
Yes, if you get the Fit Sport with the console-mounted nav system, your Fit will cost nearly 20k. That is also a substantially different car than the basic Honda Fit. The basic 2009 Honda Fit with an automatic transmission is 15,700 excluding destination. The basic Rio5, once you add anti-lock brakes and the power package (and you have to add the power package to have ABS), is 15,175 excluding destination.
EDIT: Also, the features between the Rio5 and the basic Fit are identical. What features were you specifically looking at?

Exactly. As a car enthusiast I'm interested in how non-enthusiasts come to the decision of what car to buy. The price point is clearly not the only thing.
Personally for me, driving enjoyment is my first and most important criteria for a new car. If I needed a small city car (the Honda Fit category), I'd be looking at something European. Something like the Mini Cooper, the Saturn Astra, or the VW Rabbit if they offer their diesel engine or something smaller than that absurdly large 2.5L 5 cylinder.

I just created a Honda Fit with the features I would want and it came to about $15,700 whereas the Kia Rio 5 comes to about $15,200. The kia will be cheaper if any repairs are needed and is currently offering some of the better incentive and warranty packages. All around, I would go with Kia, but that doesn't mean the Fit is terrible, just comparable.
Minor Boo-Yah: I auditioned for a part in a local community theatre production of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress and I was offered one of the parts I was interested in. I haven't auditioned or worked on any productions since I left Rochester, so I am more excited than I probably should be.
I fucking hate you Americans for calling that car 'rabbit'. It's a freaking monster! Put a Diesel engine in it, hang a caravan behind it and it can still do a quarter mile in under 10 seconds. Uphill. BOTH WAYS. That's not a rabbit, that's a beast.

I wish we had more widely available diesels in this country.
Booh and yah! Got a gig in November that'll take me to three countries I've never visited at all: Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. I've sort of been to Singapore before, but only at the airport, so really visiting will be cool. If my calculations are correct I'll have visited 35 countries/remote territories between February and November, with is easily a record for me.
In the mean time, since Americans like big, you could always try a truck.
Except that a lot of us don't like big. Also, trucks should be specific use vehicles only. Trucks as a commuter vehicle is just ridiculous, expensive, and inefficient.

I was actually going to refer to them as the Jazz and the Golf, but said, "oh wait, they feel the retarded need to change the names of these cars for the American market."
And a golf diesel do a standing quarter in under 10? Come now, most super cars aren't that quick.

I was just being silly, don't worry, I know trucks are silly for normal transportation.

Honestly? Yes, with one of these hanging behind it, uphill, no problems. True story. Fo' realz brothar. Shit be seriusly , nah kiddin, reelli truogh.

I don't get the fascination with big cars. I like having the ability to parallel park into spaces that won't fit most cars. It adds flexibility to my parking options.
Nineless, why can't you just pick a name and stick to it?
There's no single reason good enough to stick to a single name. I'm nearing my ULTIMATE goal though, I just need some more inspiration, words, names, fitted to my ultimate goal, so I can ascend to the grandest nicknames of all! I just need to think, and wait, patiently, cautiously. Make sure nobody catches on to my grand plan. And it shall be truth, As I shall spell my names, And burn them in these forums. For justice. For ego. For pony. FOR I AM [redacted for awesome]! FOR PONYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Because you live in a city. If you lived in say Jesup, GA that wouldn't be stuck a advantage as there's plenty of parking where ever you go and spots are large.

Damn, I was hoping you'd seen some kind of crazy, hopped up diesel drag Golf. Oh well.
We have VW Golfs in the US. What is so wrong about the name Rabbit, anyway? Rabbits are cool. @Nineless, you will always be "Nineless" regardless of your crazy name.
I love this. I can get a 2 door GTI for $23K or a 4 door for $600 more. If I want a Rabbit (same car as the GTI, just not all the goodies the GTI gets) it's $16K for a 2 door or $19K for a 4 door. The fuck?
