If I'm taking someone to a restaurant they've never been to, I'll make recommendations on the menu, but I would never order someone else's meal. Generally, I like women who have opinions of their own, so I'm not really into the whole "making decisions for you," for the most part.
If a date involves me cooking something (which is one of my favorite things to do), I'll usually have a dish in mind, but I always like to run the idea past them first. Like, "What do you think of salmon," or something along those lines. You have to make sure that it's something they at least have a shot of liking before you go ahead and cook it.
EDIT: Also, as Emily pointed out, there is something misogynistic about making decisions for a woman. It feeds into the whole machismo "women need to be led" sort of thing. It's good to be decisive (and you really need to be), but it's bad to cross over into "controlling."
