That was interesting. On the Daily Show's extended interview with Debbie Wasserman Shultz she said to Stewart that 18-34 year olds will be getting cheaper insurance through the exchange. Did she forget that up to age 26 you can stay on your parents insurance plan? Half of the age group she mentioned can stay on their parents plan! If the plan was to have 18-26 year olds enter the pool to subsidize everyone else then... WTF?
I think (and don't quote me on this) that you can only keep it if you're at least a half-time student?

I haven't been a student for over a year and I'm still on my parent's insurance plan till, according to them, I'm twenty-six. Also, I must apologize; I quoted you.

Apparently, the answer to how petty rebuffed Republicans (ok, this may be more a Jersey Politicians thing than a Republicans thing, but still) can be is exactly this petty.
The Borowitz Report is purely satirical, right? I mean, I wouldn't surprised if Bachmann said something enraging, but those quotes seemed like a bit of a stretch.
I have to give the RNC credit for one thing, though (is this a case of even a broken clock being right twice a day?). They've came out and declared that stopping mass surveillance by the NSA and its ilk to be part of its official platform.
Certainly and only because Obama is the one doing it now.
FTFY
The only advantage to voting Dem over GOP at this point is that Dems pay marginally more lip service to social wedge issues in the correct directions. The whole system is almost as broken as can be.

There is a small caveat there. There is a small libertarian wing of the GOP that would hate this no matter who was doing it. However, I agree that the vast majority of the GOP is only against NSA spying because Obama's doing it.

Indeed, sadly. However, short term, if I have a GOP candidate who is anti-NSA stuff running against my current Democratic Congressman (who is pro-NSA), I just may vote GOP for that particular office.
Remember that this spying is not new. In fact, I would argue that there was no material escalation between the Bush years and the Obama years, or even between the Clinton years and the Bush years.
I'd agree that there's likely no significant escalation between Bush and Obama, but Clinton and Bush? I'm not so sure about that. There's always been a sizable "black" budget, but I suspect it's a massive black hole of "fuck you" at this point in an unprecedented way.
The only increase has been the power of the underlying technology to accomplish the goals that have always been goals, just previously unattainable goals.
Davis Bacon only applies to folks working in the construction field, and only provides up to what is standard for where they happen to be working. What Obama is going to do is set a minimum of $10.10 per hour for any federally contracted worker.
I should have included both in the previous comment but it was late and I was tired.
Looks to me like laws are already on the books that do what Obama is planning to write an executive order to accomplish. Which makes you wonder why he even brought it up?
Just in case you wanted to know what my dad thought of the state of the Union.
" I watched the side show of Obama last night good speaker , shame on that Service man .. They and the pres. did him proud.. But the rest of it was a smoke screen , Same old bull shit as always. Still no one has been fired because of all his lies.. More lies then truth anymore from him.. How can you even think of backing such a person.. You made fun of Bush.. Dam this guy makes him look Great... By the time he gets done , I am afraid it will be to late..I feel sorry for you for this.. Smart people back dumb people not sure why... I can only shake my head, I have to stick up for you when I am out.. They do not understand why you think like you do... I blame it on your RIT teachers, and your friends... That works... I just hope I am wrong , but I been at this for awhile and all has come to task.. When time goes by and you see what has happened , remember I told you so... later Dad"
Also apparently it's all of your fault I'm as liberal as I am :-p
I keep getting offended by my dad bringing up RIT constantly as the source of my liberalism.
I think parents that don't properly keep in touch with their kids or become distant from them when they go to College / University feel as if someone completely different has returned because they have not seen the day to day changes.
Any major changes makes them feel as if wherever their child went, he/she was changed for the worse by their environment and therefore it is fine to blame and resent the environment and not the child. Underneath that there is probably a little bit of guilt for not keeping in touch. They don't want to face that their child has matured into a person who fundamentally disagree with them on certain points.
I know my Dad and I don't get along as we use to before I struck out on my own but my Mother has the same if not a better relationship because she knows how to and can adapt to technology to keep in touch.
On the flipside I didn't keep in close contact with my brother so when I returned he had matured greatly but also gained a personality which was alien to me so I had to try and get to know him again.

Let's ignore the fact that he's basically saying that you're a man-child who can't come to his own conclusions; it's also an incredibly unlikely source of liberalism. RIT is not known for being a very liberal school. Hell, it's noted for having a pretty good business school, and a program that encourages entry into private industry. Direct partnership with industry. Bootstrappy conservative shit. In fact, I specifically remember a dearth of hippy-dippy liberals, and we used to make fun of the incredibly tiny socialist group that did exist.
RIT is probably the least liberal school I can think of that's actually an accredited university.
EDIT: Wait, and we're responsible for your liberalism?! You're the wishy-washy milquetoast moderate in the group. Does your dad understand how ragingly liberal most of the rest of us are, and how liberal you aren't?

I'm so hungry...
Probably should have clarified in the post itself.

You're not really making that your argument, are you? It's OK because the previous guy did it?

Nah, it's easier to paint with a broad brush.
