So, I found a Jury Duty summons on my desk when I returned from MAGFest. All complaints aside, the summons directed me to MAJury.gov. Dear god it's like I'm back in the 90's.
I don't know if this is a Thing of the Day or a Fail of Your Day. I am left completely baffled by this. Sunfire is awesome, but does he need an entire movie?!
How come I've never heard of the Flogsta Scream before?
"Every evening at 10 p.m. the "Flogsta scream" may be heard, when students scream collectively from windows, balconies and roof tops. There is controversy over how the tradition started. Some locals say it was simply a stress reliever, which started during exam times and then became a daily occurrence. Others say it started in remembrance of a student who committed suicide in the 1970s."
It's from The Nerdist (which is the best podcast currently running).
Are you taking the piss?
In my opinion, I feel that it is. I just love the assortment of guests that they get on the show, how they can just relax while being on the show, and not have to worry about the pressures of what they do everyday or be misquoted out of context. It makes them more vulnerable, more open, and makes for good podcast material. I love it and I am a devoted fan of it.
So, our new web filtering policy involves a "quota" system. Many sites are blocked, but some are on "quota" time; you get 60 minutes a day, and activate it in 10 minute increments. This allows you to do non-productive browsing during your breaks, while allowing work-related browsing on work time. In principle, this is a good and necessary thing.
Hypothetically, work-related sites are just freely available. Today, I tried to get to onr of our vendor's sites to browse through their catalog - nope, quota time. APHL? Quota. Webinar sites? Quota. ScienceBasedMedicine? Quota. Need to hunt down an item for the lab? Quota.
I used to work somewhere with such a quota system. It was a game between engineering and IT to figure out how to get around the BS... I left the company for unrelated reasons not too long after the implemented the quota.
When I came back to the same company a couple of years later, it was gone. I suspect that the high muckity-mucks got annoyed at the quota system preventing them from checking on the fantasy football teams and that's why it got shut down.
