Engadget says the 3D effect is compelling. However, if you move the DS, the effect is lost and you have to readjust to it. They compared it to the 3D on the back of a cereal box.
If Nintendo is really trying to reach out to the female demographic, some booth dudes would have be a nice gesture...
Why bother? Hire booth babes, you get branded as cynical and sexist for using women to promote your stuff. Hire Booth dudes, you get branded as Cynical and sexist, for trying to appeal to women with nothing more than hot dudes.

Have your actual staff man the booth instead of hired hands who know nothing.
It was, but I don't think it's going to hold up without completely updating the control system of the game. Even with that I don't think it's going to work, because of the hoops you have to jump through to play a Wii game multiplayer online.

I'm not against eye candy, I just want eye candy equality! But really, informed staff members (per Scott's suggestion) is the best option.
ps. playing a 3DS that is chained to someone would be unnerving no matter who they were...
I really don't give a shit about how the 3DS is going to work at this point. I'm getting one for the sheer amount of awesome games coming out on it, and I'm certain that's what Nintendo is counting on.
I can't stand when people hate on something with absolutely no experience to back up their opinion, yet I have become a hypocrite here. I just cannot find any desire in me to embrace 3D, whether it be in the movie theater, on my couch, or in my hands in 3DS form. No, I have not really given it a chance. The only thing I've done 3D related was see Up in the theater and while that was pretty cool I am still not compelled to go see other 3D movies.
I think maybe I am just moving into a stage of life where I have early-adopter fatigue? I have this ominous feeling that it is going to take some serious trial and error before companies really get 3D right, and I don't think I'm the only person that feels this way. My money pays bills now, and I don't want to get burned on an ill-advised purchase. I'm just gonna have to sit on the sidelines until someone forces me to try it and I come away with that "gotta have it" feeling. Prove me wrong Nintendo!
I'll keep an eye out for the 3DS at PAX cause I'd still like to get my hands on any new Nintendo system, but I have the feeling I won't be able to force myself to wait in a long line like there will probably be when there is so much gaming going on around me. I spent an hour, tops, in the exhibit hall at PAX East.
Compared to contemporary PC FPSs, Goldeneye was a shit game. But in the realm of a semi-portable-console versus games, it was an unparalleled masterpiece.

Yes. There was nothing comparable at the time. Hence, at the time, it was fucking amazing.
My circle of friends only played console games - and really, only nintendo. So this game was revolutionary as a multi-player for us. I'm not a big FPSer, so I never compared it to other games, but for what it was, it was fantastic!
And I'm thinking you're probably right on the money with that one. Goldeneye was a shit game. Period, full stop, end of line. If that steaming pile had been published on the PC, it wouldn't have received a second look from the rest of the world. Throw it on a console and you've got an instant hit with fratboys and teenagers all over the world. Yeah, my buddies played the bejeezus out of it (and Perfect Dark, too), but I never saw the draw, even after playing it multiple times. They can update it all they want, but you're still left with a console FPS, which is weaksauce no matter which way you stir it.
As for the rest of their showing... while the 3DS hardware impresses, I have to say that the overall game lineup for Nintendo's consoles has left me a bit lukewarm. Basically we get a bunch of rehashed pseudo-sequels to established IP. Paint me unimpressed with that. Sure, it's going to be nice to have a proper sequel to Golden Sun and a new Kid Icarus, but where's the innovation that brought out games like these in the first place?

For some people, like myself, it still wasn't good enough and tight enough, controls wise, for me to consider it a good game. Think of FPS's on the DS, the game may be amazing relative to everything else, but it can still not be quite as good as people want.

Nintendo had a good showing with a lot of games. I'd like to mess around with the 3DS.

Why does Nintendo have to make all the right moves, all at once, after denying us for so long?
