I'm pretty sure a girl clad in a pleather policeman's outfit might fit your definition of shitcannable, Scott.
I fully support this decision. Pleather, yuck.
Since the ads seem to change over time and seemingly by region as well, I will note that the seeming porn advertisement with the pleather and plastic toy handcuffs is for "Paroled - The Movie." I wonder if it is a softcore girl prison sex flick; that is the impression I'm getting.

I watched the trailer precisely because I wanted softcore girl prison sex. Much to my chagrin, it seems to be a really shitty movie about some dude who gets paroled and then gets into some kind of drama.

It appears that the current ad on the forums is either
a) Made by someone who is a fan of the show b) Did some research before making/placing said ad c) Is really lucky the authors share the same name as Rym and Scott d) A clever ploy to get clicks from other people

Saw that yesterday when Pete was using Chrome. I never see the forum ads because AdBlock. Still pretty clever... but also fraudulent if Rym & Scott do not actually endorse the link since it says "Rym and Scott say 'click this sheep.'"
The ad was an experiment, and it totally worked. I've been buying the FRC forum ad slot for the past few weeks (it's super cheap right now), but I had been seeing a disappointing click-through rate (CTR).
The new "click this sheep" ad, while admittedly a bit click bait-ey, produced a dramatic CTR boost.
Here's the original ad I ran:
Here's the new ad:
Here's the clicks/unique clicks graph over the past few weeks:
Project Wonderful hasn't yet added today to the graph, but I'm expecting it to look like a hockey stick, since there were 15+ unique clicks today from what I can tell.
When running this new ad, I was worried that the click bait-ey-ness would decrease FRC members' engagement with the site they landed on, but Google Analytics shows otherwise...
Pages per visit with the original ad are at 1.75, with a bounce rate of 50%. Google Analytics only captured 4 unique visitors from FRC as well, which is pretty abysmal.
Pages per visit with the new ad are up to 1.88, with a bounce rate of 65%, and you'll notice that Google Analytics captured 26 unique visitors since the new ad went up (~2 days ago).
I'm not sure how I feel about this, because the original ad had a much clearer explanation of what you were actually going to see when you clicked it, which I like better than just "click this sheep". However, the new ad is outperforming the original one by a significant margin, so it's hard to justify switching back.
I clicked on it because Coldguy mentioned it I wouldn't have noticed otherwise...
Yeah, me too, and I had to specifically pause AdBlock to see it. Is it really "successful" if I click the link to see where it goes out of curiosity and then immediately close it because it's completely uninteresting?

That's where the pages/visit comes in. The new ad yielded 1.88 pages/visit, which is better than the previous ad (although there's not much data from the previous ad) and better than other sites I've run similar ads on.
The best pages/visit I've achieved so far is 2.87 by running ads on http://1morecastle.com — likely because it's a similar site.
I feel like on this site you'd be better of just saying like hey guys check out my thing, in a non spammy way since so many of us use adblock.
The point of this wasn't so much to actually drive users to the site. The point was more to understand advertising better and try some experimentation/analysis. My hypothesis was that the new ad would show a huge improvement in CTR, but a huge drop in pages/visit (engagement). The former happened, the latter didn't.
You can check out the site if you want, but let me be realistic. There's a million video game fan/review sites out there. This is just one of many, and it's still in pretty primitive stages. Nevertheless, we're enjoying making it, and I'm enjoying experimenting with advertising models .

Except Coldguy, apparently.
Who said I clicked on it? I merely pointed it out to you all.
As for adblock yes I do use it Scott, however at work I am unable to use it due to the nature of the job. Hence why I noticed it while I was in the office killing time.
I clicked it. I thought it would lead to a better geeky podcast.
Well, if you want a better Podcast, I listen to this little once-a-month thing called Friday Night Party line. There's this one asshole, but everyone else is great.
Buttersafe is a good webcomic. It's written by two Filipino boys I met at ECCC. They alternate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are some that can be deep and others are silly. It's on my reader feed.
I think to offset some marginal amount amount of the now-super-high forum hosting costs, we should start using the ad spot as a place to post random shit. I'd be interested to see how much people would pay to declare themselves "king of the forum" or whatever. Assuming people disable their adblock (I only did like two days ago) I think people could do some cool stuff there.

Could be NSFW if someone is looking close enough.
Besides the ad looks pretty sketchy. Yes. Sketchy, not sketch, sketchy.

Except that Victor guy. His voice is dreamy.
I think this is the firs add I have clicked, EVER.
The alt text says "MAPLE SYRUP HOCKEY SOCIALISM", and the link leads to a Rickroll. This thing is a thing of beauty.
