Been reading Seitokai Yakuindomo. It's basically just 200 chapters of dirty jokes, innuendo, and Japanese puns. Needless to say, that's right up my alley.
Finished reading Battle Angel Alita, and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. While I don't claim to have read lots of Manga, this is definitely in my all time favorites.
Heard James Cameron has the movie rights to this. I Hope he actually does something with it someday.
Fun facts - the final battle of Initial D takes 46 chapters. The battle before it is nearly the same length, meaning that the final two chapters both set low speed records - It was published in a weekly magazine, which meant it took almost two years for them to make two runs down a single, seven kilometer pass. Or, alternatively, 0.00039 kilometers per hour.
Second fun facts - the Last two major plot points in initial D, not counting the ending, happened in 1998 and 2000.
Third Fun fact - To be honest, the Initial D manga kinda sucks and primarily gets idolized because it's many people's first exposure to manga, rather than for actual quality.
I don't know about the US, but down here, a lot of young dudes who aren't normally into manga saw it in the bookstore and basically went "Ooh, a comic book about car racing, I'll buy that."
My first manga was the Tenchi Muyo manga. You couldn't really buy Manga in the US easily when I was getting into anime back in 1990.
I got in a little later, about 95-96(though I'd seen some episodes earlier, since a teacher would occasionally show us kiddy shows at my first primary school), but I didn't discover manga was a thing till I picked one up by chance in a bookstore around 97-98 or so - they were around enough that you'd see it, but not as common as you see it today. Pretty sure my first manga that I read was InuYasha, primarily because that's what the local secondhand bookstore had.

The story does not end there
Did I miss something?
Yeah, Gunnm Mars Chronicles, is the sequel of Last Order.

Ah, thanks. This will be different for me since it is ongoing. I enjoy coming across something good that's already completed.
The success of Sword Art Online has generated a lot of crappy fantasy manga with the same premise: what if a bunch of nerds are sucked into a fantasy MMORPG?
Overlord is a recent entry into this genre of Spirited Away + Grognards, and it actually has something of an interesting hook. While you get the normal dork protagonist, he isn't shuffled into a facsimile of his body, but that of the Evil Lich King character he created.
Only two chapters have been scanned so far, so it could go all to shit, but right no the twist in the standard premise is enough to keep me interested.
Is Reiroukan Still Alive? is a manga about the residents of a fancy mansion. It's reasonably focused on one fellow, but the author spent a lot of time fleshing out the rest of the cast; each one is a unique character, from the landlady to the movie nerd.
The art is fantastic. Each person has their own unique design, and the backgrounds are lovely. The house, Reiroukan, has especially been paid attention to; there are a lot of fine details if you want to look.
Unfortunately, there isn't much of a story. There isn't a singular hook to really draw someone in outside of the art and the interactions between the various characters, which, while entertaining, aren't enough. Had there been something more, I don't think that the manga would have ended as soon as it did.
Which I suppose is a plus. There were 14 chapters released, and all have been translated. It's an easy and entertaining read, so go check it out.
This was probably mentioned somewhere in this thread but I can't find it without copious looking, but is the Trigun manga pretty good? I saw an omnibus at B&N while looking for something else and kinda piqued my interest. I thought the anime was pretty good but I heard the story is somewhat different.

NO. I just got rid of it for a reason. It's impossible to follow what is going on. It's almost all action, and it's laid out so poorly. Just read Akira instead, which has the greatest action scenes of any comic ever created. If you've read it already, read it a few more times. I think I've read it at least six times already.
I think the incoherence is mostly due to the edits. The original manga was super graphic in certain aspects that was perfectly fine to run in a monthly manga rag, but not for actual publication. Editors chopped the crap out of the original run to make it fit to print, and unfortunately that carried over into the US version.

It is pretty awesome.

It's basically Hokuto no fuck you I'm a doctor.

2) It happened! It finally happened!

Suffice to say that I will be reading it as they get to my house.
So it will be readily available, somewhere in the year 2087.
Still happy for that though, always nice for people to get legit ways to obtaining great manga. Or anything.
It's really good. Does a lot of between-the-lines storytelling, and the characters are very well developed for a mere 14 chapters.
Not that I'm considering it, but what about the Maximum material? Same sorta incoherence?
