I know right? I should just tweet Vertical and ask them if they can pick it up. Then again Kodansha USA might also continue it. It is really a pretty awesome series, and more people should know about it.
I think the author makes some good points about why it's in decline, but I'm not so sure I agree with his solutions.
On a somewhat random note, why is this thread in the Everything Else category instead of the manga/comics one?
I thought a lot of his ideas were quite astute. I think self-publishing in all realms of art will be on the rise, whereas the publishers themselves are going to hurt really badly. I think people will still have editors/agents, but rather than their being the go-between for the artist and the company, these people will act as business advisers, help promote, and give critique. I think Japan has the problem where companies will take an existing idea, reinvent it and make it awesome, and then cling to this same idea forever until it is old and tired, fighting tooth and nail against change. (See Nintendo.) Conservatism hurts all Japanese business, and we are definitely seeing it a lot in the manga, anime, and videogame industries.
As far as editors, agents, etc. I think these people need to just change their business model to be more service oriented. For example, right now editors work for publishers and get salaries and such. Then they edit whatever is assigned to them. Instead they should just offer their services to authors. I will edit your book for $X, I specialize in this kind of book, etc. Then if they are good they should get enough authors wanting them that they can raise prices and be selective about which books they choose. Then they can be financially secure even if the books all suck ass.

Exactly. An editor should be the person with good literary/artistic advice and business acumen that helps an author get their work out there. Artists often don't have the first idea about promotion.
So I just finished AX volume one and it was really good. Sometimes the "alternative" stuff sets me back into reality in realizing how good or bad mainstream can be. I would recommend this if you are into off the wall stories with various messages.
For the first time since 2004 the Nausicaa manga is being reprinted in a second edition. If you go to dcbservice.com you can order all 7 volumes for $6.47 each.
Ouran High Host Club vol. 18 arrived. I just realized that it's the final volume of the series! Reading final volumes of manga I've been reading for a long time are always bittersweet.
I went to Kinokuniya today and picked up Takashi Murakami's Stargazing Dog and Tezuka's Apollo's Song 1 & 2. I remember hearing good things about Apollo's Song.
I also saw Tezuka's Dororo and almosted picked it up as well. Can anyone tell me anything about it? It is on the same level of Princess Knight awesomeness?
I really enjoyed Dororo. I liked so much that it kept me wanting more after it was over. After reading it I think Tezuka had the chance to make it super long like most of the shonen series of today. However, he took another approach to it and finished it in a way, we want to keep reading more but we got a proper resolution with a small opening if he wants to revisit the characters later in his life. Also, to anyone that is not reading "The Drops of God". You are missing out!
Been reading the first five parts of the Tiger Mask manga at Mangafox. I wish there was some way to get the rest of it, since the pro wrestling geek in me is loving the content. Nothing like reading about Jack Brisco, the technician of justice of American pro wrestling.
Now that I've gotten my first paycheck, I've just ordered two volumes of manga I've never read before. They are "A Drifting Life" by Yoshihiro Tatsumi and Volume 1 of Naoki Urasawa's "Monster". I love both mangaka dearly and I cannot wait for these books to come so I can rip into them.

I read all 18 volumes of Monster at once. I hope you have all the volumes or it's going to be quite painful.

I have 4 volumes of Monster. Haven't gotten more because when I last checked Volume 6 (if I remember correctly) was out of print and I wasn't able to find it, at least not trivially.
That reminds me, maybe it's time to check again if I can find it this time.

Yo ho ho. ☠
I know. That would be trivial solution, but I already have the first 4 volumes, it would have been nice to fill the collection. But maybe I'll have to bend and just read the scans.
I don't feel like doing a forum search, but didn't someone mention a website where people could sell or trade manga?
I have a few series I really don't want or need anymore and want to get rid of them for steal. It's mostly shojou. I know there is ebay, but can you sell entire series on Amazon?
I will try to sell them at a community garage sale this weekend, but would like to know of other sources. Thanks! ^_^

Amazon.com, eBay, Craigslist. There might be a specialized manga site out there, but the sheer number of buyers on the three big sites makes them the best option for pretty much anything. I have had very good experience selling old manga on Amazon.

Also available: Madoka Magica volume 1.

If they don't sell this weekend, I'll more than likely use ebay.
