  • Take care of yourself. Go to the dentist.
  • Dentist is definitely more important. Jobs/money can be fixed. You only have one mouth.

    Maybe YOU do.

But seriously, go to the dentist, man. Take care of the bits your body can't replace, teeth are pretty high on the list. You'll miss them when they're gone.
  • I mark times that I have things to do as "unavailable" in my calendar. If work tries to intrude on that, I don't let it.
  • On the test token, the primer went on really smoothly. It says to let it dry for 24 hours even though it seems dry now? Ok. I'll paint tomorrow then.
  • Yeah, letting your primer properly cure is super important because you don't want your primer being soft when handling it before painting.
  • Seems to work perfectly, and is thin enough out of the can not to remove any of the fine details. The final clear coat will be the determining factor.

  • Nice.

I'll be interested to see if it passes the "in a bag with a bunch of other coins jangling" test.

Rubber band them together to prevent them from bouncing around? Or one of these: https://wyrmwoodgaming.com/product-category/products/herovault/

  • A Plano box should work too, though far less fancy than those wooden boxes.

  • Has anyone heard of the Thiel Fellowship? Seems too good to be true.

It's real, but you don't want it. Thiel refers to Peter Thiel. Evil startup Silicon Valley douchebag Peter Thiel. Best to stay away.

And what's the criteria by which they select their Fellows?

Is there reason to stay away besides "he's a jerk"? I need a jumpstart more than I need a principal.

You don't get involved with Silicon Valley douchebag for the same reason you don't make eye contact or acknowledge the existence of anyone who approaches you on the streets of NYC.

I can't get feedback from the last people the dude on the street talked to. When you can google the proposition and its legitimacy the dynamic shifts.

Sure go ahead. Trust one Silicon Valley douchebag's opinion of another one of his own. I'm sure you also believe the three card monte isn't rigged because you just saw someone win it.

Applying =/= playing. If I got in, I would ask questions before signing anything. I'm not putting anything on the line by applying.

Just standing near the 3 card monte and watching is asking to have your pocket picked.
  • $100k isn't that much money for two years, particularly if you're expected to use part of it to pay for the compute resources you'll need. You're being paid under an entry-level software engineer's salary to drop out of college and try to found your startup. I guess if you think you have the killer idea, you can do it, but chances are better that your startup won't go anywhere and now you have two years of experience but no degree. (Although less college debt.) And if you are successful, the fellowship's terms will probably allow Thiel to make a lot more money out of it than you will.
  • Greg's not looking to found a software startup.
  • Yeah it doesn't make sense for my career path but their website doesn't say that so I had to do extra reading.

If you're not athletic and haven't biked much before, yeah. Until you get stronger and more used to it, you'll have problems.

Also, do you have a good saddle?

I can try and get a pic of it tonight but it is a bike provided by my workplace because we have to cover several city blocks, so I really don't have a clue.
  • If you care about speed and super long distance, you need a slim, modern saddle.

If you care primarily about comfort, get something like this and never look back.

  • Some superficial tenderness is expected when upping your mileage (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saddle_sore), but if you notice any numbness (in the fingertips or junk), joint pain, or muscular pain that isn't attributable to DOMS after a ride, it's probably time to check and adjust your bike, riding position, and possibly clothing.

I've even found that certain gloves and sewn-in chamois can be too bulky, to the point that they apply circulation-impeding pressure resulting in post-ride numbness. I haven't found a good way to test this other than riding on the gear for 30+ minutes.

The late Sheldon Brown, one of the most knowledgeable bicycle mechanics who ever lived, wrote extensively on his website about tons of issues relevant to bike commuting. His site is a great go-to resource. Here are a few articles that might be relevant to your needs: PS - Hello, folks!
