  • Damn, I always decide that I want the special edition pre-order doodad AFTER the game comes out. Oh well, I'll just buy a regular Wii Remote Plus and spray paint it gold myself :-D
  • Fi makes me feel the way that it seems like most people felt about Navi. For some reason I never minded Navi, but the way Fi pops up so frequently to give really obvious "advice" bugs me. Not to mention her call button occupies the same space as the button you use to center your cursor, so when I bring up my item menu and the cursor is way off to the side, I instinctively hit D-down to center it but instead accidentally call Fi. Luckily, she makes up for it in dry humor.

The Nintendo World store in NYC had a huge pile of them yesterday when my wife stopped by. They had a lot left over from their launch party. Also, it includes a pretty cool looking 11"x17" poster printed on thick cardstock, hand numbered #1-2,000. Yesterday morning they were still only at number 564. Obviously, she bought two copies because she knows I am a horrible person and will jump at the chance to flip this on eBay. The poster alone is going for $50.

  • Just shipped from Amazon.
  • I'm so happy it's my Friday. Other than tomorrow normal stuff and hanging out with homies on Saturday for movies and gaming, I will be putting more effort into this game.

I'm being so slow and practicing all the various sword moves and shield bashes to be an efficient fighter. I'm also talking to like every villager to see if I can do some tasks before I finally take the plunge to save Zelda.

As for the 25th Anniversary edition CD, "Great Fairy Fountain's Theme", is one of my favorites. I'm so loving the harps.
  • I love, love, love the album that came with the game. The version of the Wind Waker main theme is wonderful.
  • Picked up a bundle a couple of days ago from Best Buy. I see these things going for over 130.00 on ebay, I'm thinking of getting a few more and flipping them... Does this make me a terrible person?

    Not at all.

  • If that makes you a bad person, then the retail business is Satan.
  • ...Shut up, Bronz. Yes, that makes you a terrible person. You're practically stealing a dudes chance to save however much you're gaining. (Times how many you get)
  • You're practically stealing a dudes chance to save however much you're gaining.
There are several issues with that, let's consider one of those. What if nobody ends up buying them? You've just wasted money for no reason. Secondly, are you saying it's amoral to ask anyone more then production price for anything? Thirdly, I love you.
  • I thought about buying the Zelda 3DS just to flip it on eBay but I didn't. $200 is too high of a starting price.
  • I beat dungeon 2 last night. Going to do town stuff before dungeon 3. I'm hoping there are at least 7 dungeons in the second half of the game, but there will probably be less. So far the only negative things I have to say are that the controls are sometimes awful, and the dungeons are small. They are still complex enough and have a lot to do, but they only have a handful of rooms each.

What I like the most is how you actually need fucking rupees and you can actually spend them all. The days of having a zillion rupees without having a use for them are over. The shops, especially beedle's, carry all stuff you actually want to buy.
  • I still barely into the game. Been too busy with other crap. I'm at the part where I found the 3 Kikwis and now I'm going to some Temple area to find Zelda, which is more than likely the first dungeon. Yes, I'm slow.

I really hate those pea pod shooting plants because they seriously fuck up your shield durability.

Anyone notice how the crows poop on you and it causes you to become fatigued? Yeah, happened to me several times over the weekend as my friends watched and laughed.

Also, has anyone figured out the point of flying through the doughnut shaped rocks with the speed boost in them when you're on the Skyloft birds? Is there more to riding them further in the game?
  • I only use the shield when I absolutely have to. Most of the time I don't use it at all. The durability only really gets fucked up if you use it for straight defense. If you have perfectly timed shield bashes, it seems to be ok.

The point of flying through the speed boosts is to save time. If you try to do side quests you'll be going back and forth to the pumpkin place quite a bit. If you fly through the correct rock, you'll get there almost instantly.
  • The dungeons might be on the small side but the pre-dungeon part is arguably part of that dungeon as well since it uses similar, if not the same, puzzle ideas. And the pre dungeon parts are full of puzzles too! This Zelda is all puzzles, all the time!

Just finished dungeon 3. If you think all the dungeons are small, be prepared... :)

And yay, rupees matter!!!! Every item and upgrade just makes you feel that much stronger, cooler. Gotta say, I'm very impressed so far.

"Is it wrong to steal a loaf of bread to feed your starving family?"
    "No."
"Well, suppose you got a large starving family. Is it wrong to steal a truckload of bread to feed them?"
    "Uh uh."
"And, what if your family don't like bread? They like... Zelda?"
    "I guess that's okay."
"Now, what if instead of giving them away, you sold them at a price that was practically giving them away. Would that be a crime?"
    "Hell, no."

That doesn't make it wrong. It's arbitrage.

An arbitrageur simply corrects a public market imbalance. In assuming the momentary risk of holding the asset while correcting the disparity, he is "paid" in the difference between the two price points. For any market as a whole, this is a good thing. It prevents localized shortages or surpluses from pushing prices very high or very low compared to the rest of the market.

My spare copy of the Skyward Sword bundle just sold for $100. I'm a happy man. The freebie poster it came with already has 1 bid at $25 and still has a day and a half to go. Here's to hoping my arbitrage gets me a free copy of Skyward Sword in the end.

NYC had an imbalanced supply, in that they stocked the Nintendo World store with 2,000 copies of the bundle, and about 300 people showed up for the launch event. I am merely charging a fee to help redistribute this treasure trove to the rest of the world (in this case, Utah). To paraphrase the words of Rym & Scott, if the guy wanted to get his own copy at normal retail price, he should have lived closer to NYC ; )

In a city the size of NY, a mere 300 showed up? Are there really that few of us?

What do "normal" people do with their free time??? :/

  • Oh yeah, you guys have Amazon.

People wouldn't listen to a podcast hosted by normal people; on the other hand, normal people wouldn't do a podcast anyway.
  • See, when you live in the sticks, or are a punk kid, the thought of going to something like a Zelda event is amazing and epic. If you live in the city, and work two blocks from the Nintendo Store, you realize these things don't live up to the hype. It's just a store. The event was almost definitely totally lame. Maybe there were a couple things there that would make you go ooh and ahh, but certainly not worth the effort of physically getting your ass over there. I see more interesting shit on the train to work.

This shit is for tourists. It's also why we can never live anywhere that isn't a very major city.

I can pretty much guarantee that what Scott is assuming is in fact truth. I didn't go, my wife swung by 2 days later. MTV sent one of their two video gaming guys over to snap some photos and they confirm the lack of anything exciting. The schedule was: stand in long line outside, witness unveiling of mediocre statue, purchase game, take picture with cardboard cutout of Link, leave.

This is in somewhat contrast to when they turned Times Square into Mario Land a week before. I actually did want to go to that for the sole reason it would have resulted in some priceless photos with the kid. Some things got in the way and I'm not around the block (an hour away), so I didn't actually get there.
