Actually, adding another PAX in the US does very little to aleviate PAXgestion (congestion of the PAX) overseas. From what I can see, the best PAXes to have next are Tokyo and Germany, as that would provide PAXes to (effectively) east Asia and Europe.
I don't think Penny Arcade really wants to make a PAX outside the English speaking world. That's a major factor in the choice of Australia, and probably UK. Penny Arcade is in English only. They speak English only, AFAIK. They probably look at their Google Analytics and see exponentially more readers from English speaking countries.
What I would do if I were them is invest the money to internationalize the comic and the web site so that it could be read in the top languages probably both Chineses, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, and Russian.

I think the one exception to this is Germany. I don't know if Luke will contradict this, but when I was there, literally every local spoke English, and PAX would be very successful with the German boardgaming culture.

They already have multiple game conventions that don't suck, like Gamescom. And even though lots of people speak English there, especially in big cities, German is still the #1 language country-wide. Penny Arcade is not in German. Lots of gamers are there for sure, but how many PA fans?
I knew a guy who was born in sweden, had lived in germany, france, and at least 4 other places. Knew all their languages well enough to carry on a conversation and you could barely tell he wasn't from America his accent was so good.

I don't know that PA is the main draw for PAX. I only know one person IRL who likes the comic, but everyone I know wants to go to PAX.

It is a convention of gaming, but it's also the Penny Arcade Expo, not the anything else Expo. They have been quite clear on this, especially when they twice defeated the Omeganaut Expo insurrection.

But did he read PA?
Despite being my roommate (not in room, we had like these weird suites in our dorms) for a semester I know very little about him.
I'm with Scott on all of this. PA is still a very small company, and a big part of what makes PAX special is the PA touch. At some point very soon, they are going to reach the limits of how much PAX they can possibly provide without watering down their attention.
They've been very adamant about saying PAX AUS will be full blown PAX, with the whole company there. They've also heavily alluded to PAX UK, although said not to expect it any time soon. I suspect it may rotate in and out with AUS? How many more PAXes could they possibly do?
So, they raised the minimum enforcer age from 16 to 18. This isn't a problem for me, but almost all of my friends (hell, almost all of my school) needed to enforce to get a badge, and now can't. No me gusta.

Like that, right?

That said, the only one I can read myself is the middle one, which can mean "inside".
