  • "So our new album is supposed to really suck."
I read that differently: every band with a long career is making bad music, because they get stuck in the same thing. But Daft Punk isn't making the same thing over and over, like it said in the paragraph before. So maybe he's saying it's supposed to suck, but...

    NB: I haven't RTFA.

For reals for reals. Whole thing. It's 192kbps and the metadata is far from perfect, but it's definitely real.

  • Where? This must be archived for comparison to the real thing when it drops.

You can stream it from iTunes by going to the Daft Punk artist page and clicking "listen now" on the left, immediately under the RAM album art.

  • Yep. That is 100% legit.
  • I don't get this album. The hype train is gonna derail on release.

The main problem I see is that despite what they say, it is NOT a dance album. You expect to get a Daft Punk album and dance. Almost all of these songs are for laying in bed staring at the cieling or cooking breakfast on Sunday morning. Nothing here is really going to get play at a rave without some big time remix.

That said, it's really good at what it is.

  • This album feels cheesy and corny with a high level of production quality behind it. There are two, maybe three, good songs, but other than that it's just...meh.
  • My track by track thoughts:
    1. Really into it. Kinda a mix of ONE MORE TIME and Robot Rock in terms of the vocals. Danceable.
    2. Meh. The vocoder-as-an-instrument part was annoying
    3. I want music, not talking.
    4. Okay, now the vocoder is just annoying. Don't like this track.
    5. It's okaaaaay; not something I will actively seek out to listen to.
    6. For a track called "lose yourself to dance", I'm not at all compelled to do so.
    7. A song should not take three minutes to get to the good part. And the good part should be more than a minute long.
    8. Nothing new here.
    9. Is this the opener to the Olympic Games? Nope, just a long intro to a meh song with MORE VOCODER.
    10. Meh.
    11. 70's movie sound track music
    12. I think I'm becoming allergic to Vocoder
    13. I'm done.

Apart from Give Life Back to Music and Get Lucky, I didn't like this album. I'm glad I got to hear the whole thing before buying. And now I won't buy it.

Hey, everything in moderation. I guess this new album just isn't my cup of tea.

Listening to the album via iTunes. I hope the Giorigo voiceover isn't there in the real album, but I fear it will be.

That on iTunes is the real album. The voiceover IS the song. That's been known for some time.

    Non mi piace.
  • I actually really like this music. Its a style I've listened to and enjoyed before, that funky electronic 70s ... whatever?... feel. Reminds me of Miami Horror, a band youtube suggested to me awhile back that I actually listened to.

I can totally see how everyone is so disappointed, we were hoping for classing Daft Punk. I could tell this wasn't so with Get Lucky, but I really like that song too. *shrug* I'm weird I guess? :P

Wrapping up the iTunes stream. This last song is interesting. I can't say much about the rest of the album.

    I am glad I didn't preorder this.

  • My mind isn't blown, but I really enjoyed RAM. It has a nice Nu-Disco (Nu-Italo?) vibe to it, which isn't for everyone; however, I happen to like Italo and Euro Disco quite a bit, so RAM was right up my alley. More excited for the remixes or live tour, though.
  • Doing it right is easily the best track on the album followed by Contact. It's difficult to believe, but Get Lucky is actually worse than the radio edit. Giorgio by Moroder would be better if it lost the voice over and cut the middle third of the track.
  • Contact was good. That puts us at... one and a half good songs? Maybe one and two halves?

It's not bad, it's just not 9/10 Discovery awesomeness. If I heard it on the radio, I probably wouldn't be able to tell you what song it was right after it ended. Maybe it'll grow on me :/
  • My thoughts as listening:

    1
    Yes please.
    2
Okay. Not much else to say.
    3
    Rocking. Love it.
    4
Nice. Fuck, this going to be stuck in my head more than Get Lucky.
    5
    Starts meh. Love the chorus.
    6
Can't wait for a more uptempo remix of this one.
    7
I really liked to intro, but when it got to the main part of the song... it felt really twee. I guess Prog Disco is a thing now. Pity it's not my thing.
    8
Longer than the radio edit... fucking hell this song has been in my head for the past week and half, and I didn't even like it much on the first listen.
    9
    Great sound.
    10
Hmmmmmmmmm.... this is way better Prog Disco.
    11
Ouch cheese. Sounds like fleetwood mac. Weird meta song about listening to the album itself? Not doing it for me.
    12
It needs to be about 20bpm faster.
    13
Another great intro. The beats finally arrive in the last track of the album? Why can't more of the tracks be at this tempo? And holy shit! What a track!

One thing I have to say is that the production value, as always with Daft Punk, is off the charts. The individual sounds, whether you like the songs are not, are amazing. It's as if they had the perfect instrument in the perfect recording studio and got the best possible sound out of each note.

One of the songs has this drum solo section, which is a just a decent drum solo. It's not even close to a John Bohnam or Neil Peart, but the drums themselves seem like they are Elven-made or some shit. I really wonder what would happen if someone played a truly great drum solo on them. Maybe the reason they don't do it is because it would truly wake the dead.

  • Listening to the whole album, I find that it is the most cohesive album I've listened to in a long time. "Get Lucky" is much better in context and "Giorgio by Moroder" gives me the shivers.
  • This album is full of tasty jams, so I dunno what the problem is.
