  • Ugh, so I bought the wrong ones. I don't think I can return them either because the comic shop had that at 50% off because the store is changing ownership.

    Sell on Amazon.

Just finished Vagabond vizbig Vol 9. I'm a huge fan of Takehiko Inoue because of both Slam Dunk and Real, and Vagabond is just simply amazing. The art is breathtaking, the story is epic, and the translation is topnotch.

The Vizbig editions, besides generally having crappy cover art, are superior to the individual collections in every way. You just can't beat three volumes, in an over-sized format, for only $19.99. If you're a fan of samurai, great art, manga, or just want to read an amazing and epic story, you should check this out.

Up next on my reading pile is the Starman Omnibus vol 6

Question: Has anyone read The Secret History Volume 1 from Archaia Studios Press? I'm a big fan of some of the other books they put out including Mouse Guard, the Killer, and Okko, and this just looks really cool. image

I think I'll just go to a Half-Price Books and take my chances there with other books I no longer want.

As for my comics, I'm trying to get caught up on the ever growing pile of things I buy but never read.

I just finished Powers:Z and OMG that was one hell of a surprise ending. I really love reading about actual world history being intertwined with the comic book universe. It's always interesting seeing it in a somewhat different perspective.

Next comic up to bat (possibly): Hellboy. I might switch back to Mouseguard because I have Winter: 1152 and the Legends of the Guard now, but I need to reread the Fall: 1152 because I pretty much forgot everything that's going on.
  • Next comic up to bat (possibly): Hellboy.
Library Editions bitches! Fourth one comes out in a couple months.

Well I recently bought the tpb volumes 1-7 from a friend, so that's more than enough to tide me by. Just need to get vol. 8-10.

I'm not sure if I want to get the B.P.R.D. volumes.

Me either. That's one of those things I might dip into if things really dry up.

I saw this recently on Amazon and it immediately jumped to my "MUST BUY" list: B.P.R.D. Plague of Frogs Collection vol. 1 which collects the first 3 BPRD collections. Apparently, the Plague of Frogs storyline lasted for 12 volumes, so there should be 4 of these. This won't collect the entire BPRD series, because there are stories that aren't part of the Frogs storyline that have their own collections.

    Vagabond = very yes.
  • I'm not now nor have I ever been a big comic fan, but I've been selectively trying some titles here and there. Last night I read the entirety of The Return of the Dapper Men, and it was a fun read. Pretty simple story (it's meant to be a fairy tale), has a good message, but what really stands out is the stellar art. That alone is worth the price.
  • I grew up on MAD magazine and would constantly reread the big bundled of 70's-80's editions my father found throughout growing up.

I recently purchased MAD's Greatest Artists: Sergio Aragones-Five Decades of His Greatest Works. It arrived today and I look forward to reading it and be filled with nostalgia.
  • To any other fans of Chew, I heard Showtime is picking it up for a pilot. And out of other indie comics, I think this comic would be great to adapt towards screen. It's really smart and has great twists and generally very funny.

Ken Leung (Miles from LOST) would be great as the main character.

    THIS!
  • Not sure if anyone is interested in this, but I recently discovered that Warren Ellis's column, Come In Alone, for Comic Book Resources, waaaaaaay back in 1999, is still available online. Yes, you could just buy the thing from Amazon, but you might not want to pay $25 or you might just want to occasionally read a column here or there when you're supposed to be writing a paper for your class (not that I would ever do such a horrible thing!)

Anyway, for those interested, Warren Ellis writes awesome stuff (the Authority, Planetary, and Transmetropolitan) and his column is very amusing.
  • It looks like DC is finally printing softcover versions of the Gotham Central "book" collections. I actually would have preferred these in HC, but volume 1 is out of print and is going for stupid amounts of money ($100+) on Amazon.

Gotham Central Book 1 (collecting issues 1-10)

Gotham Central Book 2 (collecting issues 11-22)

These are pretty much MUST BUYS for me.

I saw Okko at the local store and picked up vol. 1. It seems to be those French comics translated for the US. I'm really digging the art style and the story being in a time period similar to those of the feudal Japan days. I recommend this comic.

I'm pretty sure Okko isn't French.

If you like Okko, you might want to check out the Okko boardgame, if you're into that kind of thing. I have it, and it's fun, and plays somewhat similarly to Space Hulk or Claustrophobia. What's really cool about the Okko game is that all the artwork is by the original artist for the comic so there's tons of atmosphere.

Okko is a comic book published in a series of mini-series, or cycles. Originally published in France by Delcourt, Archaia Studios Press started reprinting the series in English in 2006.

    News to me!
  • A lot of the comics that Archaia publishes are actually reprints of foreign material. I'm still hoping that they pick up more stuff from Humanoids Publishing and reprint them in English. With all the manga being republished in the US, I'd love to see some more European comics published here as well.

Just picked up some comics from Half Price Books: Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Samurai Executioner (vol. 1), Crisis on Infinite Earths, JLA: New World Order, and Justice Society (vol. 1) (A collection of Bronze Age JSA comics). I'm going to read Crisis first, anybody here read it?

  • Just finished reading Daytripper this morning. Highly, highly recommended. Definitely my favorite comic to date.
  • I finished reading Biomega Volume 3 today. I'm really liking this series a lot. While the plot isn't that original, and to be honest, there really isn't much plot at all, the artwork is gorgeous and it satisfies my desire for "THINGS GO BOOM!" Plus, there are zombies and sentient motorcycles in it, and sentient motorcycles are always cool. Tsutomu Nihei manages to convey speed so well.

Superman/batman is one of my favorite series at the moment. It's usually got great art, and it's just the unashamed silliness of the silver age. Some of my favorite issues so far - two kids arguing over who would win in a fight, superman or batman, and Superman gets superstoned.

Direct quote from the latter - *Sniff sniff*"Do you smell that? Someone is making brownies." *Sniff* "In North Dakota! WE HAVE TO GO TO NORTH DAKOTA RIGHT NOW!"

Just found out that Humanoids is re-releasing The Incal in standard graphic novel hardcover after the oversized deluxe edition sold out in less that 14 days back in September. They're also releasing The Metabarons, Screaming Planet and The Technopriests, four other legendary Jodorowski works.

I'll be buying a copy of The Incal when I finish finals, I think.

I wish Humanoids would put more of their catalog back into print. Incal is a definite must buy, but I'd also like some of their lesser known works like Son of the Gun, Morgana, etc.
  • A lot of it is limited-run. They return the deluxe editions as standard hardcovers a few months later.

Otherwise, hunt around on Ebay and the like.

I just finished reading "The Flash : Rebirth" it was and interesting introduction to the character of The Flash. It answered many questions and it basically reset all of the previous Flash stories. It is a kind of cheesy and sometimes one just need to supend ones disbelief in order to let the story continue. Has anyone read "The Darkest Knight" if so where should I start?
Also, I am currently reading Axe-Cop the trade paperback. It is super fun!
