Do people still watch live broadcast anime? Is that a thing that happens? I mean, outside of Japan?
If it's not streamed or torrented, I don't know anything about it. Hulu is probably as close as I come anymore.
I know there's a couple of shows on TV down here right now, and I used to watch it on TV as a kid, but I don't really do so now - I live with other people, and it's normally on TV by the time they're in bed, so I don't bother, even if it is a show I want to watch, which isn't common, both for selection and the fact I don't watch much anime - I think between Space Dandy, Kill La Kill, and Apollo on the Slope, I've watched more anime in the last six months than the last two or three years. We also get Adult swim and Toonami on cable.
I'm pretty sure they showed uncensored Afro Samurai on ABC2, a free to air station. That's pretty cool.
We also used to get a bunch of anime as Weekday morning and Saturday morning cartoons, which was interesting. Yu Gi Oh, Pokemon, Cardcaptor sakura, Dragonball/z/gt, so on, that sort of fare.
Rewatching Utena because I'm showing it to a friend. He keeps saying "but that is forbidden love" whenever there are lesbian undertones. I'm taking bets on how long until he stops because it's too frequent.

I'm impressed that he's (presumably) made it past the first episode already.
There's a new anime this season with the name "Wizard Barristers." Unfortunately, while the name sounds appealing, I've just watched the first episode and it sucks. Why does Japan have to ruin things with so much potential?
I watched "RWBY" which is being produced out of the Rooster Teeth of all places (all the episodes are on Youtube).
The animation is not incredibly high quality because it is done with motion capture and 3d models but it's not too distracting.
The show is basically students going to school to learn how to fight better and as teams to go and hunt the creatures that live on the planet.
Somehow every character has mindblowingly awesome skill with a weapon that is both a gun and weapon in one. e.g. the main character looks like little red riding hood yet has a scythe about 2 times her size which has a built in sniper rifle, or another character who has 2 SMG's which have extension allowing them to be used as sais, a spear that is also a shotgun etc.
It's pretty much Harry Potter with guns and melee weapons in an anime style with a few other plot points. The episodes are only 5 minutes except the season ender and opener which are longer.
Nothing mind blowing but something fun to have running in the background.
The motion capture animation might be deal breaker for some people though.
I found something called "Colorful" on Hulu last night. It's 16 episodes, each 6 minutes long, with credits every 8th episode (so apparently it was chopped up into vignettes for some reason). It's.. over an hour and a half of the exact same stupid sexist joke recast in different scenarios. Despite this, there are still some (very small, very undeveloped) subplots that resolve throughout.
It was... really something. I think I stuck with it primarily to see if they'd keep up the same tired schtick through all 16 episodes. They did.
Also the animation style, especially the cuts, were very reminiscent of the old Liquid Television on MTV, so that was kind of interesting (and I wonder if it's why MTV ads, which I never get on Hulu, played during it.)
The second years got owned so badly. They pushed themselves so hard they got injuries? I felt kind of bad for them. I knew the first years were going to win but still.

Yeah, if it weren't for the plot, they definitely would have made the Inter-High. I don't feel bad for them, though. If the manga/anime goes on long enough we'll see next year where they become the 3rd years.
At the behest of my friend Kelvin, I started watching Princess Tutu and just finished episode 1. What did I just watch? Hook, line, and sinker. I must see the rest.
Psycho-Pass makes me angry. There's the whole thing with them treating mentally ill people as criminals, but I looked over that because it seemed the protagonist wasn't happy with the system and was going to change it. But she fucking doesn't. The series ends with her training a new young lady exactly as she was trained. And the cycle goes on.
The problem I had with Psycho Pass was that the Dominators were a great opportunity to explore the question of who decides who is guilty (ie, have them work on people who the audience knows to be innocent and not work on people who the audience knows to be guilty), but it never explored those questions. It turned into a bland procedural crime drama instead.

Yeah, but that was a minor incident. It could've been the focus of the show.
At any rate, in the last week I've caught up on Space Dandy and Kill La Kill in a vain attempt to prove that I don't only watch old anime like my friends say I do. Spending that much time on KLK was a mistake, but Space Dandy is the shit. Also started a 6 ep OAV called Shamanic Princess. Four eps in, and it's very interesting. Full report will come when JTVH gets home form work tonight so we can finish it.
Gave up on Nisekoi after three episodes. It had a great premise, but there was too little Yakuza. Now I'm watching Kids on the Slope with JTVH, and switching back and forth between CCS, Sailor Moon, and Penguindrum on my own.

Edit - It's on Crunchy Roll too.

If Trigger animated it.
