I'm very pleased with the ending. Mind you, I secretly hoped Kim Pine would end up with Scott. It was nice to see Scott, Ramona, and Knives realize their flaws and grow up from it.
Well:considering that Scott told Knives to call him when she was in town, I think they did not go very far, maybe for the time being they would run away, but they seemed like they were going to come back to the same place.
Ok guys, chill, since I won't get a copy until it shows up in Scott's Box in a week or two.
Well, why don't you just ignore this thread until you get your copy? You're always telling people how they should ignore things if they know the thing is going to have an effect the person doesn't like (Nine's posts, for example); how is this a different situation?
What did you guys think about how he handled the explanation of "Nega-Scott" and "The Glow"? It seems like a lot of predictions about Scott "fighting the evil ex-boyfriend within himself" was fairly spot on, and I like how the revisiting of Scott's previous relationships enforced that. I was a bit dubious about "the glow", though, but I guess it makes a good metaphor for certain people playing "headgames" in relationships or something? Gideon was messing with Ramona's head in the most literal sense, but it also works in a figurative sense.
It just arrived in the mail today, and I devoured it. I love Knives Chau 18 years old, she's awesome. Also I feel like the ending is perfect, but I don't really feel fulfilled (that's the best word I could come up with,) by it which I kind of feel like was the point.
I've officially finished the series now, and all I can really say is...Meh. I'm with everyone else, I loved how Knives came out in this new volume, but all around the whole series just doesn't feel as epic as possible. I'm glad how a lot of things have developed with how Scott and Ramona discovered things about themselves, but overall, the series just feels kind of hollow.
but overall, the series just feels kind of hollow.
I disagree. The metaphor was terribly, deeply relevant for anyone who lived a certain kind of life through their college years. it was wholly fulfilling for someone like myself. This just might be a story that speaks to some people over others: the core "message" will hit some people like a brick to the face.
Some enjoyed Scott Pilgrim for the references and humor. Some for the message. I enjoyed it for both, and thus achieved maximum fulfillment. I cannot imagine an ending I would prefer to the one it had.
I definitely think that the flaw in Scott Pilgrim is that it has a narrow appeal. For those people who are the right age, and had certain experiences, it's epic. For anyone else, it's WTF?

Yeah, this is true. I know a lot of people that started reading it because of the hype and couldn't understand what was so remarkable about it. Although, I don't know if I'd call the appeal "narrow", considering how hugely popular it is. Most of the people who don't enjoy it seem to be the people who wouldn't have ever picked it up otherwise.

I can see both points of you guys really well. At this point, I've mostly stuck with Scott Pilgrim because the volumes got progressively better and I do think it gets pretty funny around the parts. But it is really narrow for who it targets to because Scott and most of the people in the story are in their mid-20s. If they were a tad younger or still in college, I'd get into it more, but they aren't and a lot of the characters are really hard to like to begin with. Aside from say Ramona and Knives, a lot of the characters in the story are always sneering, sarcastic and mean or just ignorant to their issues. And there's just a real lack of urgency within the whole series in terms of the evil exes.
My main issue with the series is that there is lack of depth with the supporting characters to this series, with the exception of a few. A good 50% of this series is just based around the conversation of Scott's Circle and it just feels very uninteresting because of the overall lack of friendship between them.
Really? I thought the inside jokes/interactions between the characters made the series better. Such as calling Stephen Stills by his full name and Young Neil.
That depends on your world view, really. Once I know what I want, I go for it. Once I have made a decision, I act on it. Unless the decision is not to act. But then not acting would be acting on the decision not to act.
Anyway, depending on whether you are on the good side or the bad side of those decisions generally affects your perception of me. As I am decisive and active, some people perceive bitchiness. Also, when I am PMSing. But I generally try not to direct that bitchiness at people who don't deserve it.

Yes, Gomi! The ending had me tear up a bit.
I think vol. 5 was the best. Perhaps 3.
