The reason I'm buying it is because Aerosmith is one of my favourite bands... Also, since Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King came out with downloadable content they have proved that it can be done for the Wii. They are releasing an expansion for Rock Band Wii in July that has around 30 songs that were DLC on the 360 and PS3 versions, but I'm still expecting actual DLC content to follow.

The issue is size. The Crystal Chronicles DLC is minuscule, Rock Band songs are far, far larger. If the Xbox version size's hold true, you'd only be able to hold about ten songs on a completely empty Wii. Until Nintendo makes an alternate storage solution, or at least allows you to access things on an SD card, I wouldn't count on DLC for the Wii.
Since I still don't own any consoles, I just PRAY that this way leads to at least one of these two games making their way to Mac/PC. Guitar Hero 3 has already been ported to Macs/PCs by Aspyr, so I can only hope that a similar move is made for either Rock Band or any of the past/future Guitar Heroes.
And I can just imagine the minimum system requirements for Rock Band PC including 4 USB ports. Yes I know that there are smarter ways to go about it, but 4 USB ports just sounds more interesting. It counts my Macbook out though.
But I agree with Prof. Pangloss, since I don't have a Console (or a TV, for that matter).
I was shocked when Nintendo added SD-card support to the Wii. I was expecting something like the memory cards for the GameCube.
Mass storage will come to the Wii, they are probably just working out how to monetize it. If they allow for a simple USB attached thumb drive or hard drive than anyone can buy one off the shelf and Nintendo makes nothing.
Isn't there some sort of expansion port on the bottom of the Wii?

See:
and really, even if it was GH: Dkong's favorite band, I'd STILL call it fucking lame, because it just shows a lack of originality, diversity, and it shows a whole lot of dick sucking towards said band
While I pretty much agree with Scotts above list, I find it sad that you do not include AC/DC on it Other than the australians, there are two bands that would probably make me buy a game without other consideration: Millencolin and Optimus Rhyme. And depending if they fuck it up, Dead Kennedys.

I don't know the Dead Kennedys or Millencolin, but AC/DC and Optimus Rhyme both rock the house. Despite their high level of awesomeness, they aren't nearly on the same level as the gods of rock.
I can understand Millencolin (they are a swedish punk rock band) but you have played Guitar Hero III so you have heard (and played) at least one Dead Kennedys song, Holiday in Cambodia, even with slightly altered lyrics. At least it wasn't as terrible as Police Truck was in Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80's.
Anyways, they are just my favorite which would make me buy a rhythm game to be able to play their songs. But I consider AC/DC rock gods and on the highest tier with Queen, Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. I also have heard a whole lot of people on sites like rockband.com or scorehero.com say that a new game or DLC which features AC/DC would be instantly bought. They are a big seller and people are thirsty for material of theirs.

Oh, that song. It's ok, but it's nothing I would actively seek out to listen to.

AC/DC wold be super awesome. Many of their songs are well suited to the plastic instrument games, and I can see why people would instantly buy the AC/DC DLC. But there is no way they are on the Queen, Beatles, Zeppelin level. At most they are on the Black Sabbath level, probably a tiny bit lower.
You know what? At this point, I think I'd rather learn how to play an actual instrument than learn how to play a fake one. The former has a much better chance of getting chicks.

Yeah, I would also like to learn an actual instrument. However, my harmonica not doing so well. I sort of have this thing where I can't learn something unless I have a purpose for learning. Like I can't just learn a new programming language unless I have a project I need to learn it for. There's more to it than that, but as I failed to keep practicing harmonica, I can't justify buying another real instrument to collect dust.

Don't tell me you wouldn't buy Guitar Hero: AIDS Wolf the day it comes out. C'mon, man.
MIDI is an overly complex archaic piece of garbage that's only useful because no one has ever bothered to make anything better. They probably just didn't want to bother with the trouble of figuring out how to support it (a nontrivial endeavor). It's one of those "just good enough to barely continue to do its job" protocols.
While I agree that there may technically be a way to make a technology that works better than midi, Midi still works fine. I bought a M-Audio keyrig 46 which provides a midi input device over USB. It works perfectly with all my music creation software and can be used with any number of VSTi's (including Vocaloid) to convert my input into music using an almost endless amount of instruments and effects. It may be shit technology-wise, but midi is processor un-intensive, widely available, and very useful in a number of applications.
Harmonix just drew even pretty much with announcing Rock Band 2 for September as either software only release or bundled with the old instruments, read guaranteed compatibility. They will also simultaneously release the game in "Europe" and all DLC, no matter if it was released before or after RB2, will function with either game.

I think you mean they just passed GH again. Harmonix has been in the lead of this race, GH4 only just brought them up to even with Rock Band. The fact that I don't need to buy new instruments for RB2, and that all current and future DLC will work with both RB1 and RB2 only makes the case for them stronger.
Not necessarily. Harmonix is just making most of their headstart. However, I can't really judge about the quality of GH4 instruments, and the create-a-song feature in GH4 still sounds very intriguing. Also we have very little knowledge about either setlists.

True, but I'm not sure the quality of GH4 instruments matter or the create a song (which isn't really a create a song, more of a modify an already existing song.) I don't doubt that Red Octane can make good peripherals, it's what they are known for. But that fact that people already own Rock Band I think means that they are very unlikely to buy another full set of instruments. Especially since it's not like your Rock Band DLC works with GH4, heck not even your GH3 DLC works with GH4.
In regards to the music you also have to take into account that those people who have nothing right now, who are then given the choice between RB2 and GH4, will have more incentive to buy RB2. Simply because of all the DLC that already exists for RB will be available for the new one. With GH4 all you get is what comes with the game.
Nothing good ever came out of the "create your own arrows" methods in DDR.
But was the "create your own arrows" mode on DDR online and well-known? Is this custom song thing? The power of the crowds has show to be able to make some pretty nifty things if you let it. (See: Stepmania step files)

Rock Band is still hella fun, though.
Also, the Lead Designer stated that some, but not all of the following bands will be in the game: Agent Orange, The Beatles, Built to Spill, The Buzzcocks, Journey, Led Zeppelin, Modest Mouse, Pavement, The Replacements and Tool.
Personally I think The Beatles and Zeppelin are some of the more likely ones, but I would love me some Agent Orange and Journey.
Oh, and Rock band also gets a metric shitton of The Who as DLC
