Those are what I'm referring to mostly. I never played a worthwhile Stepmania file, and most of them seemed entirely random.
Wow. I can name you at least 30-50 stepmania files (original songs with original charts to normal DDR and ITG songs with harder [aka user made] steps) that are just fucking awesome. Bemanistyle and Stepmix (an actual contest for creating stepcharts) FTW. Some: most daft punk files, Heaven 11 footer, Uber Rave, Holy Orders, Monolith Renaissance mix, Nautilus (Fuck, any DM Ashura song for that matter, most have at least 1 good stepchart), most KaW/Smiley/Kyle Ward in general songs/stepfiles, the Lawn Wakes. I can go on and on.
They're getting closer to my wallet, but no Queen, no money.
I've been giving this a lot of thought but I am not that sure if Queen is actually a good Band for a Guitar Hero kind of game. This is not to say that Brian May is bad guitarist, no, he is one of the best ones ever.
But many Queen songs, especially the ones they are most famous for, are either structured weirdly or heavily rely on the piano as the leading instrument. For the same reason I believe that most ska songs would not do well in a rhythm games because the leading instruments in that entire music genre is the brass section.

If it's just guitar, then probably not. Imagine we will rock you with just a plastic guitar. You stand around doing nothing for a minute or few, then rock out in a wicked awesome solo, then you're done. Not so great.
However, if you include the drums and the vocals, Queen is epic win. They should have a special Queen edition microphone that has a stick without a base. A plastic guitar modeled after the red special would be poop in pants worthy.

I agree with Scott on this one. If it's just guitar, it's nothing to get too too excited for. But if it's got the full instruments, Queen would be great.
I've long thought that the first PIG with Dream Theater would get my vote. I'm sp going to import if I can/have to.
Actually, there was an interesting point I was thinking about concerting PIGs and Australia. If Harmonix do not manage to get a Rock Band game out to Australia (preferably 2) before Guitar Hero 4, then Rock Band will be seen as the copy cat to most people here.
Imagine if Guitar Hero 4 came out, with better peripherals and the like, and then Rock Band 1 came out. I think it would be laughed at.
Really...Pink Floyd, Rage Against the Machine, Jethro Tull, Ozzy, Alice in Chains, Muse, AC/DC, plus few other notables. So yeah, provided that site and video aren't BS, then I'm gonna jizz myself when RB2 comes out. No question.
Actually, that video is bullshit. It is missing Pump it up by Elvis Costello (officially announced by Harmonix) and Shackler's Revenge, a new song by Guns n' Roses (recently confirmed by the New York Times).
However, there have been a few leaked tracklists and with later confirmations of various songs, the general consensus is that the following is either the entire setlist or the largest part of it:
1 AC/DC Let There Be Rock 2 AFI Girl's Gone Grey 3 Alanis Morissette You Oughta Know 4 Alice in Chains Man in the Box 5 Allman Brothers Ramblin' Man 6 Avenged Sevenfold Almost Easy 7 Bad Company Shooting Star 8 Beastie Boys So Whatcha Want 9 Beck E-Pro 10 Bikini Kill Rebel Girl 11 Billy Idol White Wedding Pt I 12 Blondie One Way or Another 13 Bob Dylan Tangled Up in Blue 14 Bon Jovi Livin' on a Prayer 15 Cheap Trick Hello There 16 Devo Uncontrollable Urge 17 Dinosaur Jr Feel the Pain 18 Disturbed Down with the Sickness 19 Donnas, The New Kid in School 20 Dream Theater Panic Attack 21 Duran Duran Hungry Like the Wolf 22 Elvis Costello Pump it Up 23 Fleetwood Mac Go Your Own Way 24 Foo Fighters Everlong 25 Go-Go's, The We Got the Beat 26 Grateful Dead, The Alabama Getaway 27 Guess Who, The American Woman 28 Guns N' Roses Shackler's Revenge 29 Interpol PDA 30 Jane's Addiction Mountain Song 31 Jethro Tull Aqualung 32 Jimmy Eat World The Middle 33 Joan Jett Bad Reputation 34 Journey Anyway You Want It 35 Judas Priest Painkiller 36 Kansas Carry On Wayward Son 37 L7 Pretend We're Dead 38 Lacuna Coil Our Truth 39 Linkin Park One Step Closer 40 Lit My Own Worst Enemy 41 Lush De-Luxe 42 Mastodon Colony of Birchmen 43 Megadeth Peace Sells 44 Metallica Battery 45 Mighty Mighty Bosstones Where'd You Go 46 Modest Mouse Float On 47 Motorhead Ace of Spades 48 Muffs, The Kids in America 49 Nirvana Drain You 50 Norman Greenbaum Spirit in the Sky 51 Offspring, The Come Out & Play (Keep 'em Seperated) 52 Panic at the Disco Nine in the Afternoon 53 Paramore That's What You Get 54 Pearl Jam Alive 55 Presidents of the USA Lump 56 Rage Against the Machine Testify 57 Ratt Round & Round 58 Red Hot Chili Peppers Give it Away 59 Replacements, The Alex Chilton 60 Rise Against Give it All 61 Rush The Trees 62 Silversun Pickups Lazy Eye 63 Smashing Pumpkins Today 64 Social Distortion I Was Wrong 65 Sonic Youth Teenage Riot 66 Soundgarden Spoonman 67 Squeeze Cool for Cats 68 Steely Dan Bodhitsattva 69 Steve Miller Band Rock'n Me 70 Survivor Eye of the Tiger 71 System of a Down Chop Suey 72 Talking Heads Psycho Killer 73 Tenacious D Master Exploder 74 Testament Souls of Black 75 Who, The Pinball Wizard BONUS SONGS (all HMX bands) 76 Abnormality Visions 77 Anarchy Club Get Clean 78 Bang Camaro Night Lies 79 Breaking Wheel Shoulder to the Plow 80 Libyans, The Neighborhood 81 Main Drag, The A Jagged Georgeous Winter. 82 Speck Conventional Lover 83 Sterns, The Supreme Girl 84 That Handsome Devil Rob the Prez-O-Dent
There has been a second setlist of 60 songs been rumored wich has 52 songs identical to the above. These are the songs that are on the second one but not on the first one:
Bad to the Bone (George Thorogood) Dammit (Blink 182) Alright Now (Free) Holiday In Cambodia (Dead Kennedys) Push It (Static-X) Bandages (Hot Hot Heat) Suffer (Bad Religion) Stop! (Against Me)
This game has my money. Megadeth, RATM, Devo, Rise Against, Journey, Metallica, Motörhead, Social Distortion, The Offspring, Bosstones and fucking AC/DC. Somehow it feels like a list of bands I like very very much.
Well, the list is realandthere will be 20 more free downloadable songsthat have yet to be announced (my hopes are still up there for Bad to the Bone).
This game has my money. Megadeth, RATM, Devo, Rise Against, Journey, Metallica, Motörhead, Social Distortion, The Offspring, Bosstones and fuckingAC/DC. Somehow it feels like a list of bands I like very very much.
Yep. After seeing that my initial post about the new setlist is BS, I'm still happy to see that most of the BS list is on the real list. Lacking Ozzy and Pink Floyd, though.
I think a very cool feature is that if you have RB1 and buy RB2, you will be able to download the songs of RB1 for free onto your hard drive and play them in Rock Band 2. No Disc swapping, better graphics and engine. Provided you are playing on a 360 or PS3 of course. This takes backwards compatibility to a whole new level and banks even more on their headstart over Activision and Konami.
I think Activision just got pwnd unless they whip out the really big guns like Led Zeppelin. The only thing Guitar Hero World Tour has over Rock Band is the music creation mode and that isn't going to advance them that much. The only Guitar Hero product I'm probably going to buy is GH Metallica, and only if it has drums and I can use my RB drumset. And this is only because I am having so much fun with the Metallica DLC pack for Rock band.
However, since Battery is in Rock Band 2 and Metallica's other "business practices" it is pretty safe to assume that GH:Metallica will not prevent any more content for the Rock Band franchise and we could expect something to come out pretty soon.
It was announced today that all of Rock Band's instruments will be compatible with the new Guitar Hero.
So the answer is to buy Rock Band 2 for 360, which can play every Rock Band Song ever. Then you will be able to play any 360 Guitar Hero game with that set of instruments? What are the specific details? They matter.
At Activision’s unofficial E3 press conference Tuesday evening, one of the developers of this fall’s “Guitar Hero: World Tour†made a quick comment to the crowd about the new “GH†game being compatible with non-â€ÂGH†instruments.
Later, I asked for clarification.
Two Activision representatives confirmed that the age of cross-game instrument incompatibility is nearing its end.
They explained that the Xbox 360 version of “Guitar Hero: World Tour†will indeed be compatible with the instruments for the first “Rock Band.†The “GH†developers have, for obvious reasons, not been able to test their new game with the upcoming “Rock Band 2.†Other third-party guitar and drum controllers are expected to work with “GH: World Tour†as well.
Activision isn’t ready to address whether the instrument compatibility applies to Wii, PS2 and PS3 versions of “Guitar Hero†and “Rock Band.†But a rep told me that a recent auto-downloaded title update to the Xbox 360 version of “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith†should make that game compatible with non-â€ÂGH†guitars, including the “Rock Band†ones.
You know. There is no technological reason for the PS3 or 360 versions, which are patchable, to be updated to be compatible with every possible plastic instrument.
I think I'll be able to survive another weekend without drumming. Gotta work on some projects anyway. In any case, I'm not going to spend 30 bucks on something that I will get for free in two months and only replaces a working thing.
Well, rumored GHWT set lists are coming in. A bit early in my opinion but what the hell:
