We expect to do a show tonight. Things are hiatusy for now, but by the new year, we'll have a studio again, and all will be good. No more Skype shows, and we've got a lot in the hopper now. ^_~
Basically, we have to get moved in and unpacked, and then Geeknights can continue in the same room, just like it used to be. I also hope that I'll get to be on the show a bit more often, on more of a rotating schedule. There are going to be things that Rym and I watch together that Scott might not be interested in, and vice versa. I can talk about certain games that they wouldn't play, like doing geek-bites on various JRPGs, and, although I doubt I would be too useful on the tech side, there are certain things that might be interesting to you guys, like talking about different game engines and the tech side of computer graphics. (Although Alex might be a better candidate for this. He teaches the fundamentals of CGI really well.) I wouldn't be on all the time, but I might (I hope) be more of a reoccurring feature, to add a little bit of different experience and tastes to the entertainment related shows. Also, I foresee a number of Thursdays about city things. I'm getting back in the saddle as a New Yorker, after more than 2 years away.
How about another questions show? I think that would make for an interesting and entertaining show? I don't think a week of questions would work considering how hectic Rym and Scott' s lifestyle is at the moment.

Sounds good to me. They're fun to do. Almost as fun as FNPL... ^_~
Scott, you keep getting the Hellboy Library Editions, any chance you will devote a show to Hellboy. Does Rym even read Hellboy? It is by one of my favorite comics that is currently being published and I would like to know your thoughts. (Oh and after you read Hellboy vol. 5, or the first half of Library edition 3, you can start reading the BPRD trades if you have the desire, the two books evolve in different ways, but both are very good)
LFD2 review = the last zombie show you will ever get. Stop Complaining!
As a side note, I consolidated all the ideas in this thread, categorized them, and put them a Google doc. We will refer to this list if Scrym has a lack of ideas one night.
Show idea: Being disillusioned with the political system. Why: After listening to episode 060117 it seems that Scott has not always been so disillusioned with the political system. As such, what brought about this change?
Wait.. in 060117 you recorded the outro which is still in use until this day. I think..

Disregarding your irritation at Sonic's justified (at least I think so) badgering, would you not want to hear a Zombies Part III? I wonder if Rym and Scott are afraid it will be The Godfather Part III.
What I mean to say is that I can't imagine them having anything new or interesting to say on the subject. Between the countless discussions, arguments, books, and films I feel like Zombies are played out as far as Geeknights' format goes.
You know, I am going to say something heretical to present day geekdom.
I am sick of the goddamn zombies. I never liked zombies, and I can think of a bajillion other more compelling survival scenarios. What is so attractive about rotting corpses that want to eat your brains? I think it is just that people want a thought experiment where they can plan what to do if all of humanity turned against them. They want the primal rush of bloodshed, but they don't want to feel the guilt of imagining shooting a sentient human in the face with a shotgun, so they imagine their attackers as unthinking beasts who are already dead to begin with.
The whole zombie thing is just one of a number of hoodoo folk legends, which got co-opted by B movie producers to make gory splatter films. It's fine if you like that type of horror film, and left 4 dead is cool because it masterfully simulates actually being in a situation like those movies with all the spooky ambiance and strategy of avoiding a ghastly populace, but I just don't get this recent cultural obsession. It's like zombies are the fallback to avoid being creative in your post apocalyptic dreams.
Same goes for ninjas, pirates, and sexy vampires. Boring and cliche.

There, I've said it. You can hate me now.
Amen. I still like ninjas though, but the rest can go DIAF.
I am fine with any and all of the devices you listed if they are used well and/or amusingly. I see it like this: I am not a fan of mechs (at all), but if the show overall is worthwhile or holds other aspects that I find interesting, then I will still watch and enjoy a mech show.

Sure, but I guess I am sick of the geek-cultural obsession with these things. It's like Zombies for the sake of Zombies...dunno, just bringing them up randomly doesn't do it for me.
Zombies are just like everything else that has become "geek chic". People will bring this stuff up randomly because they think it's some sort of accepted, unifying aspect of nerdy conversation.

Maybe it's time someone came up with a new geeky concept that will have some staying power...

I'll second that - I Agree with emily, zombies are tired and overused, and have become little more than a punchline to a hundred jokes that pass from geek to geek. But when they're used well, it's great - for example, Shaun of the Dead.
Zombies are the new Ninjas, which were the new Pirates, which were the new Dinosaurs. It's a continuing cycle. Vampires will probably be next (again) if werewolves aren't.

"Zombies" Part 3. I wants it.

Although, frankly, I would love to get on Skype with them and do a tiny round table on the subject, maybe as a geeknights special.
