  • It's a comic, but if you read the whole series it's probably a reasonable amount of reading.
I think a big part of the point of the book club was to encourage people to read actual books. I think almost everyone around here reads comics and/or manga.
Well, yes, how about a twofer? Scott Pilgrim and an actual book?
Or how about a show just on Scott Pilgrim itself?
  • Or how about a show just on Scott Pilgrim itself?
    Done.

As Sail posted, it's been done (curse you, Sail, for getting there first!) I'm hoping for a Final Thoughts episode once volume 6 comes out and the series ends. It could cover the movie, too.

This. Come on, Scrym. I know you wanna~.
  • How about an episode on Google, it's hold on technology, and some of its products you enjoy using?

Already been done. It's even a two parter.

Damn. Well then at least an episode on Google Goggles (once it exits beta and gets its iPhone/iPod touch release) or imagining the future applications of visual search technology.
  • Getting into Sciences episodes for the Monday e.g. Invite Pete on to do a "Getting into Microbiology" episode.
  • I think you should do a show on strategy video games. I.e. what makes for an interesting strategy game, your favourite examples, and why you think real time strategy games do not often contain actual strategy. In general I enjoy it when you talk about broader subjects relating to game mechanics, principles, and genres rather than reviews of specific titles. Though that may be because your schedule and habits aren't condusive to reviewing anything new or unheard of.
  • Someday...Book Club: The War of the Worlds

    Done.
Oh... I should have checked the archives.
    *Side-step away*
  • Probably the best venue to ask this: What was that history podcast Rym used to be addicted to?

Also, did you guys read anything of the Adventures of Asterix yet?
Also, are you guys going to do a TMNT episode at some point?
  • What was that history podcast Rym used to be addicted to?
    12 Byzantine Rulers.
  • How about an audio version of Emily's panel: Living in Japan. I think your listeners would greatly benefit from this and it would make for a very interesting show.

Oh lordyupa, aren't you being a bit too transparent now?

Yes, Geofino likes listening to Emily, and respects her greatly. He is also more interested in listening to her than Rym and Scott. None of this is new information, so I see no reason for you to go ahead and point this out like a jerk to everybody other than to just be a jerk to him. Seriously.

Actually, yeah, that sounds like a really good idea, I'd give that one a listen. I won't say everyone would gain a serious benefit from the show - How many of us are going to live in Japan for any length of time, other than omnutia, who has already? - but it would be particularly interesting. I don't know if it would fit in with regular geeknights shows, though.

True, however, I'm willing to give Nine and Geo the benefit of the doubt on this one - I think nine is just having a bit of a laugh, and a gentle one compared to his usual style, and I think Geo is mature enough to shrug it off as just a joke.
  • I learned all I need to know about living in Japan from Gaijin Smash.

Maybe, but still. Maybe Geofino won't complain, maybe it would bother him. Nine should just get his laughs on someone else, I think he's spent enough time sniping Geofino. He should set his sights on another forum member.

Honestly, I just roll with it. It's happened so much that it doesn't affect me any longer and I've built an immunity to it.

    Possibly. ;)
  • The Pre-XP Windows Era. Also mentioning what Linux and OSX were doing around that time.
  • OSX were doing around that time.
Apple had just released or were nearing release of OS 8, and they were in very severe financial trouble. They were pretty much on the ropes at that point.
  • This is more of a notification than anything else, but lately I've had some issues playing the Geeknights episodes. What happens is that after playing the episode for a minute of two, the length of the entire thing is shortened greatly. So at first it may say the episode is 1 hour and 15 minutes but then it cuts to 38 minutes. When it gets to the "end" it either keeps going past zero, but only sometimes, or it ends up just stopping and going to the end music, sometimes just cutting off what Rym or Scott is saying. I really have no idea what would cause this, and I would just think it was just either a hardware failure or a faulty download, but I they were two separate devices and downloads, so I don't think the fault is on my end.

I'm using standard VBR encoding as of a few weeks ago. Prior, I was using CBR. Many shitty players can't handle VBR.

What are you using to play the episodes? What episode did this start with?
  • An episode on Satoshi Kon?

I've had this problem on My 30 gig original Zune and my 2 gig Sansa Clip. I'm pretty sure first episode I noticed this on was the Google Buzz and Privacy episode, but It might have been before this. I think I've played VBR on both but that was all music so maybe all of the songs were just too short for me to get this problem.
