Well Nintendo just announced a "third system" which will launch in Japan on November first. It's called the DSi. All I read was, that it has 2 touch screens which are slightly bigger, a 0.3 (or 3, couldn't find out for sure) mega-pixel camera, an SD card slot but no GBA card slot and can connect over wifi to the DSi Online Store from which you can buy content.
I could say now that I'm not going to get this, since it doesn't seem like its that much of an improvement, but I have a feeling come US launch I'll be at the store buying a black one.
That will bring the 8===D issue to a whole new level...
I cringe at that possibility.
Once again they start with white and black. As much as this will be cool to own once it's released in the US, I might just hold out of for the release of more colors.
The colours are better than they were at the DS lite launch, in Japan it was white, navy blue, and baby blue; in America it was just white. I hope that we won't get shafted again colour-wise.
For someone who doesn't have a DS, this is a no-brainer, but the lack of GBA slot is sad. In order for me to buy this they have to have some pretty amazing download-only games. Really, the stuff they've added in the DSi is stuff my iPhone does. I'll probably stick with the normal DS unless there are super killer DSi-only games.

This is part of the reason why I want one of these. I have been thinking about getting an iPod Touch when the next model comes out (so there will be a larger hard drive on it for a lower price), but now I really don't need to get one if the DSi works well. Just as a little side note, I like how the power button is now inside the clam shell instead of it being a switch on the side.
Will we have Picture-chat?
Even if there isn't Picture-chat, I hope Nintendo will at least have online Pictochat.

Like on the original DS, you mean? The power button is in a weird spot on this, but personally I want the GBA slot more than a camera or anything. I've been playing more Fire Pro Wrestling than DS stuff lately.
Actually, I think the existence of the DSi increases the demand for GBA micros and GBA SPs.
I still have my SP if I or my friends ever get the hankering to play FF:CC for the GC ever again.
We have some SPs and some normal GBAs in the controller bin, for the GCN link-games like FF:CC and Four Swords. However, I would really like to get one the last generation of SP, with the better screen. That system can play GBA, GameBoy Color, and GameBoy games. If I had that and the DSi, I would be GameBoy complete.
My current DS is getting a bit beat up, particularly on the touch screen, but I don't think it's close to actually dying yet. Hopefully by the time it does break, the DSi will have already come out in North America and the price will maybe have come down a smidge. Even if the price doesn't go down, the DSi will probably still be worth getting at that point unless I find a super wicked deal on a new DS Lite somewhere.
The new features are nice, but at the moment I'm not even playing my DS at all. My cellphone can do most of the tings this does, so I personally have no need. I will aplaude nintendo for its ideas though.
Where did all the DS game review shows go, Scrym? I love those.
By the way, the new Castlevania's coming out this month. I'm playing through FFIV and it's great. Lego Batman is out. ChronoTrigger DS comes out next month. And Sim City Creator looks like a lot of easy fun (you can make curvy roads).
Kirby Super Star Ultra came out. It's a remake of Kirby Super Star on the SNES, but it's got a lot of new content and is surprisingly quite challenging for a recent Kirby platformer.
This looks pretty cool, but I'm going to agree with the majority and say at this time it isn't worth it unless my DS breaks beyond repair, or at least to the point where buying a new one is cheaper.
I am playing Super Princess Peach (On the last level of the last stage) and Castlevania, portrait of Ruin.
Games I have beat in the past few months:
FF Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fate - Sloppy Controls, annoying AI (characters I was not controlling would try to follow me and keep jumping off cliffs), lame voice acting, and a bad plot (the moon eats your SO~UL) Not Recommended, but I played it to the end. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - Good! Although they kept making you do that ocean king temple over, and over, and OVER again. Blah. Used the stylus to great effect. Tokimeki Memorial: Girls side II. - Nintenboyfriends. A boy-touching game, Totally PG. Failed to get a fake boyfriend. I want to play the Ppoi VN instead. Lucky Star Moe Drill - I didn't really beat it, but I unlocked some more stuff. It's not really one of those "beat it" games. English Quiz For the Win!
Here is the real Nintendo news that matters. Club Nintendo coming to USA! Why couldn't they have done this before I bought all of their games!? Bastards. They're probably not going to grandfather in all my product registrations either. Still, it is going to be so nice to finally get some of those sweet exclusive products. Maybe they can start by giving us some SNES controllers that work with the Wii.
