  • No I haven't. I rarely drink soda. I'm feeling better now, but I drank 8 fl oz of it and I became so bloated.

I'm just going to continue my don't drink soda routine. I was desperate for caffeine and didn't want crappy coffee.
  • Or just burp, you have to let the carbonation out.
  • I couldn't. My body didn't want to for a good half hour. It took over an hour to get it all out. Carbonated beverages are the devil.
  • You're just out of practice.
  • That's another thing. I don't want to be in practice.
  • I will refrain from any comments... <_<

  • I just realized that the all ages show that The Wild is playing in Boston is on the Friday of CTcon. Also, apparently they played an all ages show here in January, but I'm not sure that I knew about them at the time.

Yes. Modern sodas are super over-carbonated. Things like beer are usually fine.

  • Random, Potential Fail. So I've already paid for a Plane + Car Trip to Austin through my parent's credit card rewards program. And I just learned that the minimum age to rent a car is 25. Apparently those between the age of 21-24 can rent a car, but they get a really high surcharge added per day. Do I have to worry about them tacking this on charge after I've paid for the ticket/weeks worth of pay? I am 24, but this is very "blaaaaah, this sucks."

Also, Half my week's schedule got fucking demolished because some teenage fuckin' bell-end threw a sandwich at the Prime Minister.

  • Can people find better ways to express their displeasure at public officials than to throw weird shit at them?

  • I accidentally bought flouride-free toothpaste. Wat. I didn't even know that was a thing.
  • Temper got the better of me again, slammed a door at a customer's lot.
  • Oh Lord, where do I even start there's so much fail and so much backstory...

Okay, so there's this kid. I've been best friends with him for about ever. We haven't had a class together since 8th grade, but we stick together just as well. His domestic scenario has been getting increasingly worse for the last 6 mo.-year. His insomnia went largely untreated, though he didn't tell anyone at the time. He just said that the meds he was prescribed weren't working, and the doctors weren't doing anything to help him. This was before the day that I went over to his house to play vidya, and we couldn't get into his main house because both his parents were still passed out drunk from the night before. It was ~11AM. The insomnia episodes peaked when he had to give a speech for history class, but was physically incapable of it because he hadn't slept for five months and saw crucifixes lining the classroom.

Last week, he said something to his therapist that gave him reason to understand the direness of the situation. The therapist threatened to file a 51a if the parents didn't let the kid move out. So he moved in with me. I wasn't present for the moving, but from what I've heard his mom was very cooperative. His step-dad was a complete ass, but this wasn't really of note.

During the time that he was living with me, he opened up to my parents and confided in them multiple additional incidents of abuse, some of them much more direct than previously indicated.

Yesterday, he called his mom to wish her a happy mothers day. That call quickly turned into an emotional explosion, ending in threats that she would send in the police to handle him as a runaway, and charge all TvHs with kidnapping. She's threatened everyone form his brothers, to the school, to herself in the past, so we didn't think much of it. He sure did though. He was so mad he threw the phone on the ground and perma-borked it. No one thought he should've done anything else. He didn't go to school the next day. He was worried his parents would come to pick him up.

Today, as I was consulting with a trustworthy and knowledgeable teacher about the situation, the police arrived at my house. The kid's mom wasn't bluffing. We haven't been charged with anything yet, but he's been moved to his aunt's house, and his parents know it. We're going to have to settle this through the courts -- and the courts will be useless unless he opens up to them like he did to my parents, which is going to be very difficult for all parties involved.

He's still going to be able to attend school, though I won't get to see him until Thursday at the earliest because of AP tests. The only saving grace is that at least three 51a's are getting filed by three mostly separate parties in the next 24 hours, so DCF is likely to take note of the case, and if he has to go into foster care, the aunt knows she doesn't have the resources to take care of him.

    But, fuck, man...
  • Having had not the best family situation and being surrounded by people having not the best family situation, I feel.

So there is one piece of software I definitely, definitely need for my work, and that is Microsoft Visual Studio. So I was quite surprised when I received an e-mail last week that I might consider uninstalling or downgrading the Premium version to Professional because I use it oh so rarely according to the e-mail.

Curious what the fuck these people were talking about, since, you know, that's the piece of software I use every single fucking day, I was told that this e-mail was a pretense and the reason they actually want people to downgrade (the mail went to pretty much every user of the Premium/Ultimate version) was to safe on licensing costs.

Since the way my company works is pretty much "now you have the chance to do it before we will force you to do it in the future" I thought "okay, let's just get it over with" and agreed, doing what I was told.

So now I've been without Visual Studio for almost two days because the fuckers who control the software distribution in my company can't get their shit together and their remote controlled installer has been doing nothing for the last 6 hours while I had to find one of those asshats this morning because it had done nothing since the day before when I went home.

  • Out of curiosity, does the Premium version offer anything you need for your job that the Professional version doesn't? If so, then it's a double-fail.
  • Not really. Else I wouldn't have let myself get downgraded.
  • So I was downloading all of MST3K. When I came home at 1 AM last night, everything was great. Torrents were running at full capacity and the final two packages looked like they would be arriving smoothly. So I go to sleep.

When I wake back up and go to my computer, I find that it had restarted over night. And now the last package which needs to finish sits at 98.7% with no fucking seeds online. Fucking windows updates.

  • The people next door are having building work done. It is so loud that we can not be in the house during the day. They said that it would only be going on for a week, that was two weeks ago. Might file a noise complaint soon.
  • Just got out of my last final for the exam, but it was goddamn hard and I actually have no idea how I was expected to answer a few questions. I'm really frustrated right now, more so because I should be happy that my exams are done.
  • Yet another reason why I have no interest in going to Disney World. :P
  • On the up side, you could make a killing getting a cheap wheelchair on craigslist and scam stupid rich people.
