  • That business doesn't actually exist. The Disneysphere has been in uproar over it.
  • At Cedar Point, we'd get cut-to-the-front-of-the-line passes the old fashioned way: by complaining. ;^)
  • I quit my job at the restaurant under the impression that there was a night shift job waiting for me, which is what I was told directly by my old manager. The new night shift manager, however, decided they don't need anyone this summer (except last time I talked to him he was just like "We just gotta scheduled you in.") So now I'm officially unemployed.

    Bleh.

Ouch. Something like that happened to me once. Lesson I learned was: Never quit your job until you have your first weeks schedule for the new one.

On the upside though, you don't want to work with someone who would jerk you around like that. You dodged a bullet there.

  • I worked with him before; he wasn't a manager back then, but he sure was a jerk!

And important emails from my apartment building's new property manager aren't.

  • My grandmother-in-law almost got scammed by one of those phone calls that try to get your bank account info, etc. She apparently had just gotten out of bed at the time and was half-asleep when she gave someone her bank account number when asked over the phone. Fortunately, she realized what she was doing immediately after that, hung up, and called her bank to cancel the account, so at least she won't have her account illegally liquidated. Unfortunately, she's now gotta deal with the pain in the neck of changing everything related to said account.

Having issues with my boss to where it's borderline harassment/threatening along with trying to write me up for undocumented things.

In the act of doing it, she also violated my rights as a federal employee.

The union is now getting involved and formal grievances are being filed against said boss to where I have a lots of documented evidence supporting my claims.

    Joy.

Hey at least you have a union to work with instead of just an HR department.

But that sucks, this is your new position right?

  • Yes. I'm fine. I have tons of support. I'm not stressing too much about it. It just makes coming into work a bit unpleasant.

Today I've been getting tons of emails and it looks like some bot is signing up my email address to a bunch of mailing lists that don't require an email confirmation >:/

I have made peace with my balding fate and moved down to a #1 attachment to my razor.

  • Found out today that my dad might need multiple bypass surgery. More and more recent evidence suggests that high cholesterol is hereditary in his side of the family. Hopefully he will get through it just fine and that I will be able to avoid a similar fate.
  • Have you gotten any recent labs done? If not you should. Sorry to hear about your dad.
  • No, I didn't have any medical coverage for a while, and this wasn't that high up on my list. Will definitely do so in the next month or two now.
  • "In New York it’s illegal to rent an apartment for less than 29 days, Crain’s New York Business reports, but as of May 2013 about 30,000 New Yorkers were signed up as hosts on [AirBnB]."

This seems like a dumb law. I'm sure there's a reason for it, though.

  • The reason for it originally was illegal full-on hotels.
  • Boy I'm sure looking forward to a night in the library. The iceing on the cake is loud northerners.
  • I'm pretty sure short-term sublets are generally legal (since subletting a non-rent-controlled apartment in a 4+ unit building is basically a human right here), there just seems to be a slew of anti-illegal-hotel laws that are making it a grey area.
  • Well finished in the library at 05:30 after a lovely 20 hour session. Sort some stuff out at home and find out our streets internet is down for the next week, well time for another slog. Yay.
  • Company I've worked for for five years wants to establish baseline metrics for some random aptitude tests they want to give to new hires by having existing employees take said tests.

By itself, that's not incredibly fail, but two things stick out to me immediately. (1) I probably wouldn't try very hard at-all at this point. (2) I would probably take something like that as a mark against a company I wanted to work for if I was shopping around.
  • And so today was the day that Greg was forcibly exposed to complete and indefensible pleb music for 4 hours straight.

I'm not talking about the pleb music you guys like like chiptunes, or nerdcore hippity hops, or metal. I'm talking about the unbearable cookie cutter corporate mass produced garbage "punk" that makes Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, and Iggy Pop roll over in their graves -- and Iggy pop isn't even dead yet! I can let liking some bands like BtMI and Max Levine go, because they're at least not supporting the bix six monopoly on media (arguably big seven, because Sony's got a pretty massive hold, but people don't talk about them as much), but the vast majority of this shit was from major labels like Warner and EMI. All my blurgh.jpg.
