Wow this thread has been so much fun to read. Sadly I do not understand the game, so deciphering the pictures that are posted is imposable, but the RPing has been so much fun to read. I can't wait for the next post.
I do have a few questions. Did the water transfer system end up working? What ever happened with the human guild representative? Did he just go home? Are there relationships in this game, like are the humans mad they were ignored?
I am excited to read the RP about capturing and training the dragon.
11/16/2009: After I sorted out various wardrobe malfunctions, the little dwarves marched off to their training swords and went to the barracks to prepare for sparring injury rate testing. I didn't want to sit around for skill demonstrations or individual drills, so I set sparring as the only available activity, even though nobody knew how to do anything. They still stood around doing nothing, because it was still failing the personality check for the instructor, who wasn't reckless enough to send such green recruits off to spar. So I disabled that, and for experimental control purposes, I disabled the "play combat" flag associated to sparring. There were split bloody fingers and bruises, and sparring ended almost immediately due to the injuries.
Next I did the actual experiment, and they managed to fight non-stop for two game weeks with only a few minor bruises here and there. It records combat logs for sparring in a different color in the reports menu, so you can read what's going on if you like.
The final experiment was without "play combat" and without injury stoppages, to make sure the blunt wooden swords were truly dangerous. I guess maybe it took slightly longer than I expected, but by the end four of seven dwarves had been killed and two of the last partially toothed swordsdwarves battled it out while the third wheel sat by semi-conscious. Killing his sparring partner was the final straw though, a tantrum came on, and the poor guy threw teeth and training swords all over the training room. I guess they would have started the final sparring match once he calmed down.
We need to start this up again. I've just learned to play, and I'm having a shit-ton of fun.
In fact, I just had my first dragon show up. The elves were also there to trade outside, and I had just loaded up a bunch of crafts on the trade depot. The dragon flew in and immediately torched the trade depot, destroying it and sending the elves fleeing. At the same time, one of the elves got caught in the FUCKING EXPLOSION from the trade depot catching fire and died.
So did the dragon.
So now, I have hundreds of tiles covered in ash, totally scorched, and a dead dragon and an elven merchant outside.
Yes, it does. But we should wait until the next version comes out in a couple of months. There will be so much new stuff, it'll make for a very interesting succession game.

I would like to be in this time around. I spent a few hours today reading through the Boatmurdered succession game and though I've never played DF before I'd love to give it a shot.
Also, wouldn't Google Wave be really slow with the number of images that would have to be uploaded? Maybe a use of the playback feature, where we have a template, insert pictures, and wipe the page before each turn to the blank template, so you could see development each turn in succession?
EDIT: I guess I'll continue the add-to-the-list trend:

Meh, (bah, humbug, faked pessimism) the only good thing that has come from Stone Sense thus far is the awesome plant sprites. The text-mode proof of concept someone mashed together is more awesome imho. It allows one to play over SSH, and others to observe also over SSH.

This, and succession games are often entertaining to the people not participating. I don't see any reason to use Google Wave.
Honestly, you're probably right, though it might be fun to run a test game in Google Wave. So does everyone want to wait until the new release? I'm getting antsy. Lol.

The only use for Wave I see in DF Succession Games is setting up, like synchronising raws. Seriously, Orcs, farming adjustments and dwarfs are mandatory if you ask me. Vanilla is too easy and unbalanced.

I agree, some difficulty mods would be a nice addition.
See, I don't know if I'm up to that skill level yet. At this point, I've just got my first lava smelter going, which is in my fourth fortress. I guess if someone starts it out well, I could keep it running, I'm just not sure.

Yes you are. You are posting on this forum, that proofs you have sufficient brain-mass to read the wiki, worst case scenario, you'll be reading the Losing page, big deal. Orcs are just goblins that you cannot push over with 1 champion, farming adjustments just mean you can't generate 5k+ worth of food every half month, and 'dwarfs' is just a superior spelling over 'dwarves'.
Also, the little things mods are nice, get dwarfs to engrave pictures of Cacame Awemedinade.
