I wasn't talking about anybody specifically but I do find it interesting that you felt compelled to specifically deny it. :-)
And no, I don't think anyone said it outright but it was certainly strongly implied in a number of places in the argument, which I honestly don't feel like rehashing.

Um, I thought you were directly replying to me. Because this isn't the first time you have misrepresented something that my friends and I have said on these boards :P
I agree, but there's more to these people than what gets them off. Every creepy pedo has the potential to be an ordinary, productive member of society if they can find a way to manage their urges in a healthy way.
The argument can be made that most of us are gross and creepy and enjoy bad things. If the bad things hurt no one then whats the problem?
I don't want to be around the scary guy from anime club who likes horrid violent hentai. The fact that his sexual fantasies center around killing women makes me think that even if he never hurts a fly, he still is someone who I cannot at all relate to and has something seriously wrong with the way he views human beings. He has no respect for the idea of life and empathy. Same can be said for people who like pedo manga. They like the idea of rape. Someone like that is creepy.

If you say so. I've been misinterpreted more often here than in any other forum I've ever participated in in my entire life. Maybe your impression is a misinterpretation. :-P

While I'm not sure they necessarily equate the fantasy with the reality at all, I do agree that they're broken inside and need some help and people are right to shun them.
Seriously, anybody into guro hentai is broken in a fundamental way and needs some serious therapy. I'm not even sure that people like that can be fixed, which is why I lean toward registries being a good thing (for convicted sex offenders, not fans of legal but disturbing crap). Some psychiatric damage is just not reversible with current tools.

It seems like you know an awful lot about these other people thought processes and feelings. Are you psychic? Have you psychologically examined a decent sample of these folk? Or are you making assumptions based on your own distaste?
Think someone is creepy if you want, but don't assume they have no respect for life or are pro rape just because you don't like their taste in porn.
Yeah. Agreed. Shame them relentlessly and help them understand just how atrocious of human beings they are, but they don't need jail time. That'll just fuck them up more.
Also, let's go on the Violentacrez thing again. If you want to say we should fight his speech with speech, we pretty much did. He shouted his perversions from a rooftop, so another rooftop shouter (Gawker) responded in kind by shouting his identity from a rooftop.
How can someone separate their entertainment choices from their overall mindset? I think that the things that move us or turn us on show a great deal about how we view the world. If a person likes to watch rape porn it means that on some level they must like the idea of rape. The idea of rape is pleasant and arousing to them. How can you argue around that?

Based on my experience at anime clubs/cons, everyone I've ever met who was into that stuff was a bad person, inside and out. It's not a definite sign of someone's internal thoughts, but nonetheless a person's outward tastes are an indication of their internal thought processes in some manner.

Eh, that gets into slippery slope territory pretty quick. There's also no telling how and on what level specifically someone "enjoyed" some of these things.

What about women who have rape fantasies? What about women who are victims of rape who have rape fantasies? Loli porn is detestable, but kinks are not completely cut and dry.

I would be surprised to see this one actually exist.
Hmm. Interesting point. Perhaps in some cases kinks are ways of working out issues. Regardless, to say that there was no tie between someone's sexual predilections and their greater personality is not true in my opinion. I don't think that sexuality can be compartmentalized. Your bedroom prefs affect your overall life and your life affects what you like in the bedroom.
If someone has rape fantasies, you'd really have to ask them before you could call it rape. I mean, isn't the whole thing about rape that it's unwanted sexual contact? If they fantasize about it, and like it, what would you even call it? Unexpected sex?
Of course, if they didn't want it, even with fantasies, then it's totally rape.

I read a lot of advice columns and listen to a lot of advice podcasts. It's not the most common thing, but it definitely exists. In these situations, yeah, it's probably a way of sorting through trauma, or defanging it in controlled environments.
Here's an example. I enjoy Ichi the Killer style gore movies. That is in fact a reflection of my personality.
I'm extremely cold in response to violence, danger, and tense situations. For whatever reason, I'm highly desensitized to fictional/simulated violence. While I have a strong, visceral reaction to real violence, it is entirely separate from my actual reaction to said violence. I thus appreciated Ichi the Killer's other aspects, being unaffected by the violence, and simultaneously was able to properly appreciate the juxtaposition between the main character's enjoyment of sadomasochism and ultra-violence with Ichi's, as they both existed on entirely different levels.
Ebola Syndrome is a horrible movie. I enjoyed it for what it symbolized: it exists as a sort of "this is how low you can go" example of media. I appreciated not the movie, but the reaction of the crowd. This was a group of people who came in expecting crazy, over-the-top violence, and yet still cringed and looked away. They were disgusted by what they purported to want to see: observing that contrast was 99% of my enjoyment.
The fact that I am not bothered in the least by gore movies is a reflection of me as a person. It is a complex reflection in this case, to be sure, but a reflection nonetheless.
I am extremely confident that people who masturbate to images of extreme violence have fairly fucked-up thought processes.

Nah, I'm pretty sure rape is more about the balance of power rather than the actual sex. It's a domination thing.
I have friends who are into BDSM. It's a very complex thing. I think they like to explore the dynamics of power in a safe space. Many times people who are into these submissive roles are actually quite aggressive, powerful people. In a way, though, it is all about exploring part of your nature, dealing with feelings in your life and in your personality.

Rare, but far from unheard of. I met a lass like that once, she was doing lectures at S&M gatherings in the UK, it was pretty interesting.

It's about simulation, rather than it being required to actually be rape. In the scene, it's more commonly called Forced Sex roleplay, Ravishing play, or Ravishment - so that it's never confused with actual sexual assault.

Very interesting. This is a subject I am absolutely uneducated in, aside from a very basic understanding of things.

Sorry, you can't look at examples like this and argue with any credibility that healthy people enjoy porn like this.
