  • There will be videocast of the concerts in room 235.
Nice! That was hinted at on the site recently too. Perhaps gaming whilst idly listening in this room is in order.
  • GroupMe is another android/ios app that creates groups using phone numbers. You can use data or sms so unsupported phones can use it as well. You can easily create event specific groups and just disband them afterward.

I'll admit to being "that guy" who pulls up the floorplan of the BCEC to what size room 235 is.... except it doesn't exist? Is it supposed to be 253 instead?

I talked about this ages ago. =P

Yeah. It's going to suck waking up on Sunday.

    Hi there.
  • So in preparation for PAX, I decided to forgo my normal coffee a day.

It's day two and this sucks. I've been dragging all day. Just a half a day tomorrow then no more work for a week!
  • At least we'll be setting the clock back to the PROPER time.

I saw you were doing this and for a second almost joined you, but I only drink 8 oz per day anyway, so I'd rather have the help getting through these two days, then just have >8 oz at PAX to get the caffeine benefits. I'll have to do this after PAX so I'm not dependent on a 24oz mega cup every day!

Edit: I have, on the other hand, been taking a vitamin C supplement for the past three weeks in hopes of having a strong immune system. I know the science is still unclear as to whether this will do anything at all, but it won't harm me, and I'll do anything for a chance at staving off a PAX plague.

48 hours is the peak of caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

Well Monday thru Friday I have french press coffee, but I use like almost 6 tablespoons of coffee with 10 oz of water.

I really don't know how much caffeine that is, but it's enough last me through the day. On weekends I normally have at least one latte with 2 shots of espresso.

So whatever that is has been my caffeine tolerance for ages.

I love coffee and it's rough not having my normal cup every morning. It's a ritual.

  • I enjoy coffee in the afternoon or after dinner, rather than in the morning, though a morning latte will suffice instead of breakfast in a pinch.

To prepare for PAX, I stopped caffeine intake on Friday, and plan to remain undosed until I'm there. Happily, as I'd broken my addiction some time ago, I had no noticeable withdrawal symptoms this time around. I can thus claim success on my earlier attempt to eliminate physical dependence. ^__^

Hahaha. Ha. Haaaaaa.... *pours more hot water into his french press*
  • Looks like Beluga was purchased by Facebook, so they may ruin it in the future. For now it is good. Maybe next con we will use one of the competitors.

The article I had read on it was that Facebook had plans to keep it as an autonomous acquisition, in the Amazon/Audible mold. Hopefully that is true, as the service works pretty well. GroupMe, Fast Society, and Bright Kite are the biggest competitors but Beluga has the best app at the moment. I'd expect this scene to be majorly shaken up by time next huge con rolls around, as private group messaging seems to be the "big thing" everyone is looking to debut at SXSW Interactive next week.

  • There was a large update to the GroupMe app a few days ago. Huge improvements all around, but i should try beluga as well.

Haven't tried the GroupMe one in a long time, oh well. Maybe next time around.

I don't know about the meantime, but certainly by PAX Prime, my company's service will be fully ready for consumer use. Technically you guys could use it right now for this purpose, but it's still a pretty rough product compared to Beluga or GroupMe.

Beluga is pretty polished. Haven't tried GroupMe. However, polished Beluga is, it definitely has flaws. It's definitely possible to beat them.

Well that's our hope. It'll just be a while though since we are more business focused, so consumer stuff like smartphone apps are low on the priority list.

That's good. Business focused means you can charge them money for the exact same thing. Meanwhile, Beluga doesn't seem to make any revenue, other than from Facebook purchasing them. It's totally free.
  • Happy Friday! Only 3 hours of work, then running errands, packing and leaving tonight. Squee!

For those who aren't on the PAX East Pod here are the games I am bringing:

    Dominion (all expansions)
    Dixit (w/ expansion)
    Bohnanza
    Bananagrams
    Jungle Speed (w/ expansion)
    Citadels
    Ascension
    S'quarrels
    Arks
    Carcassonne
    Kingsburg (w/ expansion)
    Roll Through The Ages

We are going to be there early Thursday but will be running errands till the afternoon. After that I plan on just gaming in the lobby. All are welcome to join us. Follow me on Twitter (RosakaM), and we'll hang out.
  • Jungle Speed, Scott should bring as well. It's good for lines.

I'm bringing a few small games. Modern Art and such. Plus my DS for Advance Wars.
  • I am ALSO bringing Jungle Speed and Bananagrams. And that longship toy. And RPG's: Danger Patrol, OSH, Burning Wheel, and maybe Wasted Youth and another couple of obscure indie things.
  • I'll have Inspectres with me just in case, as well as some BW in case it comes to that.
  • Will anyone be bringing the new Pokemon game? I'm sort of on the borderline on bringing it, but I think having a bunch of people to play with, even for a short while, might make it worthwhile.

I'm pretty sure there will be a TON of PAX people playing that game. Great way to meet up and battle!

    DS games I'm bringing:

Tetris, Bomberman, Plants Vs. Zombies, Puzzle Quest 2, and whatever is my my 16 game case.
  • Oh, I'll bring Fiasco as well.

I'm bringing Angry Birds and Jenga.

  • Too many board games. Going to have some tough choices to make tonight when paking the bag! Must weigh box size versus desire to play.
