I just bought about 50 volumes of manga at Anime North. Full accounting to come, but I got a series about a female Soviet MiG pilot; I didn't even read the back, I just bought it immediately.
I am tempted to try and find this; is it any good?
Teppu is some good stuff, I definitely remember plugging it at my Connecticon panel last year.
Basically it's a shounen sports manga about women's MMA, except that it's fairly realistic (aka no crazy named special moves,) and you are basically following the villain/rival character. I would equate it to if Avatar the Last Airbender was entirely about Zuko, and you only saw Aang every so often when they happened to run into each other.

That sounds very intriguing to me and I normally don't care for sports manga.
After that recommendation, I read the first three volumes of Teppu, and it's really good. I think the series is a bit short in content though, since I read each volume in about 30 minutes, but it is good. Having a villain protagonist definitely helps it though, and keeps it interesting.
I don't know if it's been plugged here, but All Rounder Meguru is worth a look if you enjoyed reading Teppu; it's also all about the MMA, and is brought to you courtesy of Hiroki Endo.
Reading Otaku no Musume-san now. That thing is hilarious. Basically, an 26 year-old mangaka (assistant) and total Otaku (figurines, hugpillows, and all) suddenly finds himself caring for a 9-year-old girl because apparently the one time he had sex in high school resulted in a kid he never knew about. Warning though, with the total lolicon that is his neighbor, it can get rather creepy at times.
Does the neighbor consistently end up on the receiving end of a Rage-punch-fly-twinkle-in-the-sky combo? I miss that in anime...
Not really. Most of the time he gets some high sugar candy forced down his throat, which for some odd reason makes him behave normally. Then he's actually a cool guy.
Reading Bakuman thanks to my partner in crime. I have volumes 1-4, and I've been super inspired to make comics after reading it. Maybe that's why I now have a ridiculous buffer....
Just caught up with Otaku no Musume-san, and the manga is not only hilarious, it also develops some strong dramatic depth later on. Really a whole lot more than I expected.
Here's an admission to a somewhat guilty pleasure: I really like the manga Karin a.k.a. Chibi Vampire a.k.a. Cheeky Vampire. Yes, it's a romantic comedy about vampires and the english and german names for the series are really dumb, but it is actually really funny and it has some surprising thematic depth to it talking about things like teenage prostitution, teen pregnancy, parental abuse and parental abandonment.
However, this is topped off more so by a story which was released in an additional volume called "Airmail" here in germany and appears to me to be more something written by Eiji Ootsuka than something that would be released under the label of Karin. It actually doesn't have anything to do with the story of Karin, it's just by the same author, but that's besides a point (the volume has two stories related to Karin, and two unrelated).
It's called "I'm searching for my darling" (re-translated from german, may be inaccurate) and is about a woman that is a street fortune teller, glass ball and all. She is approached by a boy who is searching for his missing girlfriend. She agrees to help him but as we find out later, the boy is actually the missing girl herself who turns out to be a psycho stalker bitch who murdered and ate (!) the guy and is now playing both of their parts. This includes a nice shot of the guy's bones stewing in a big pot. The psycho bitch then tries to murder the fortune teller after she found out and ends up falling of a building which gives us a nice shot of her lying on the bottom, head cracked open and all. It's not super gory, but it is definitely far more than you'd expect when opening a volume of Karin.
I've been voraciously consuming manga since about August. I read through A Drifting Life, Disappearance Diary, 20th Century Boys 1 - 16, K-On! Vol. 3, and Pluto 1 - 3.
Finally started reading Bride's Story that Fred recommended a while back. Man, he wasn't kidding. The artwork is so well detailed and beautiful. I'm really enjoying Amira's character. Even though she put into an arranged marriage to a boy, who is twelve years younger, she doesn't show any qualms with it and is supportive. She is a strong character overall and has many strengths other than her optimism that is later revealed to her husband and his family.
I already preordered volume 2. I will definitely have to check out Emma as well.

I made a small blog post about this feeling to create it gives me. It gets me in the mood to draw for hours!
Started reading Manhole. I don't think it has been licensed in the U.S. yet, but it has been in germany and I picked it up sight unseen. Not sure if I'll read the scanlations or wait for it to be released. If you like MPD Psycho, this should be right up your ally.
It's really sad that Del Rey shut down. Someone need to get the license again. Because I want to know what REALLY happens, and not what supposedly happened in the anime or the crappy dorama.

I am a fan of Koaru Mori's art.
It's so excellent.
But seriously, I'm loving re-reading the Genshiken Manga. I'm also reading the following:
Hana Kimi (Nakatsu!!!)
The Manga Guide to Databases
The Manga Guide to Statistics
Adolf
Black Jack
If so, me want.
Lovely Complex + Hajime no Ippo would be great.
FYI: Both of those characters are girls.

So that's what reading a sports manga for a sport you actually follow feels like. Huh.
