Just got something in the mail. Oh wait, it's not secret santa. It's Kickstarter. I need to Kickstart fewer things. I don't even remember all the rewards coming to me.
So, UPS has been trying to deliver a mysterious package at 11am for the past few days, and I think they sent it back to the sender. I'm pretty sure they restructured their routes or something, because they used to come by around 7 or 8pm, when normal people are home.
So, if that was you, I'm sorry. Could you deliver it to my work?
11 Madison Ave. Fl. 23 U13P New York, NY 10010
In other news, I'm thinking about moving to an apartment with a doorman.
Doorman is the best, but it costs a lot. There are three other solutions. One you already figured out is to send things to work.
The first alternative solution is to get a box at a UPS store. It's like a P.O. Box, except unlike a P.O. Box it can accept packages that aren't from the USPS. You also have to live or work close enough to a UPS store that offers this service to make it worthwhile.
The other solution is UPS' new service called "UPS My Choice." I was pretty sure it was a scam, but after having a package sent back after the third attempt, I joined it. It costs $40 a year. It lets you login and give UPS somewhat more specific instructions on your packages. It even let me give them the code to open my building to leave the package inside. Of course it's UPS only, but it's actually working well for me so far since almost all my packages are USPS or UPS. FedEx is the evil. Combined with Amazon Prime, it's most dangerous.
There's also Amazon's new locker system where you can have things shipped to special Amazon lockers. Obviously only works for Amazon things, and only if there are lockers near you.
Yeah, that worried me a fair bit. Thankfully if I ever have something super expensive coming in, I just let UPS/wherever know to hold it for pickup and I grab it over my lunch break or something. Or I just work from home that day and am there to pick it up.

Even when I was in a house, the UPS was so far away that picking it up there was a ginormous hassle.
My apartment has a front office they deliver to whenever I'm not home. I usually have a note on the door telling UPS/FedEx to take it to the front office.
Yeah. I think I'm going to move sometime in the late spring / early summer of next year, probably to Park Slope. There's a bunch of cool geeky things going on there, and north Brooklyn is kind of a shithole (sometimes).
I'm going to look into that "UPS My Choice" service, though.
I get my books from the bookshop next door to my apartment. I don't buy them from there, But when I order a book from amazon and I'm not in when it is delivered, they leave them at the bookshop for me to pick up.

lol! I'm sure the bookshop just loves holding boxes with Amazon logo clearly printed on them.

I imagine them just staring at Luke every time he comes in to pick up a package, and sighing as they hand over the package.

I still need to pick out and send my gift this weekend, so it probably won't make it by Christmas. Apologies to my Santee.
