  • Those are kinda dope, but I would be more interested in making my own if I wanted a wood box.
  • They look like the ones you can get from the people that are always at PAX.
  • Just in case you haven't seen it, Dresden Codak is kickstarting.

Note: there is now a Kickstarter for a sequel to Planescape: Torment. In the first seven hours it managed to raise one million dollars.

  • Make that 1.5 Million.
  • Sean Long needs to stop buying stuff on Kickstarter that I want, the temptation is high...
  • Calling it a sequel is odd, it's more of an "influenced by" deal. I'm more curious of Monte's game will be a significant step forward from his last couple.

Actually they are not calling it directly a sequel.
How Is Torment Different From Planescape: Torment?

-Torment is not a sequel to PS:T. It does not continue the stories of PS:T or its characters.
  • I was referring to Linkigi.
  • Well excuse me, princess. I blame Rock Paper Shotgun for calling it a sequel.
  • As your princess, you can apologize by playing games with me at PAX.

Deal, although I'm only available nights.
  • WoW, as in Watch out WoW a challenger appears.

    Yeah, NOT.

I'm an Ultima fanboy, this seriously makes me excite!
  • Yea it's not a MMORPG so not really in the same genre. If it was Ultima Online 2 maybe.
  • A game where I want the title even though I don't plan on playing the game.
  • It will probably also be complete shit, like the other Ultimate games. Yeah, I said it. What Ultima game is actually playable today? Those screenshots on the KS page are looking pretty crap as well. If this game is actually good, I will eat a very tiny and edible hat.

I enjoyed the SNES Ultima's, which is most of my experience. And there are interesting nuances to Ultima Online that made it at least different enough from the endless series of games that follow more in Everquest's model.

I have no confidence in "Lord British" though.

  • Ultima IV was a sin against intuitive game design.

I played the fuck out of it. No one should ever have to suffer that again.
  • Not many games made in the 80 are very playable today. Gaming UI was a completely different beast back then. It' not until you get to 6 where you get into anything one could even remotely consider as "modern". The last two were pretty crap, they tried too do too much. But they were still fun games.

Ultimas 6 ,7, 7p2 are all very playable today. I do so every other year or so.

Scott, you can not like any of the Ultimas. Go for it! I hope it makes you happy.

I'm certain a great number of games released in 85 were that way, at least that is how I remember them! We've moved on a bit in nearly 30 years!

We have, but looking at those screenshots I don't think Lord British has.

I might be missing something, I can't watch the video right now, but they screens look no more worse than any number of games in the past 3 or 4 years.

Does the video show you typing in random words while the player prays that it'll trigger the next bit of dialogue of the NPC?

  • III and IV are playable.
  • I never played the earlier Ultima games, but when I upgraded my old 386 SX (we got a modem, 500MB hard drive, a CD-ROM, Creative Sound Blaster card, oh man!), it came with a few free games on CD. My first and only experience with Ultima was Ultima VIII: Pagan. Weep for me.

I was going to say! As much as I love 4, it really isn't playable today. the interface is just way too archaic.

I do! Maybe pick up 7 or 7 part 2 on gog? Those are the best of the series really. 6 were pretty good as well.
