My mom called me this afternoon about a similar mysterious tube. I was at a loss as to what it was until she started describing the "blue turtle and yellow-grey stripey thing". Luckily I don't have to worry about framing costs since she can do that for free.
I love the idea of LA Game Space, but they are asking for too much. I highly doubt that they'll be able to make $100k more in just 9 days, which is a shame because that $150k will just go to waste.
There comes a time in every man's life when he gets linked to a friend's kickstarter and just has to say "No... you've never been published and I'm not going to pay $12 for an electronic copy of your short stories..."
I'm starting to become a little skeptical and doubtful about the whole thing. The hate campaign is stupid and awful, it's abhorrent and frankly we should all be ashamed that it continues. On the other hand, Sarkeesian is yet to do anything that she promised, and spends the vast majority of her time on other projects, mostly regarding the unjustifiable bullying she received, and how she's overcoming it. And, the few small bits of content about videogames she has generated(other than her talking about being bullied because of it) has been mediocre and disappointing at best.
I also find it particularly strange that her whole video game project seems to have taken a side-line. She almost never talks about it, except to give an elevator-pitch rundown about it, or presumably reassuring backers regarding it's eventual production. Every public appearance isn't about feminism in gaming, it's about how badly Anita Sarkeesian has been bullied, and how Anita Sarkeesian is heroically overcoming it, and how the people attacking her are awful human beings(which is absolutely true, it should be noted.) The only thing I can say that she's done regarding the portrayal of women in video games and the tropes surrounding women in video games, was presenting a private talk at Bungie about the aforementioned topics.
I don't wish to belittle what she's gone through in the slightest, nobody should have to put up with that. It's abhorrent, repulsive, and morally reprehensible that it has occurred, and that it continues. However, this does not change that I can't help but feel that something is off with the whole thing.
She's not delivering on a project despite months of lead time, working on it full time with her full-time producer and Full-time research assistant and writer. So far, the grand total of women in the video game industry who have interacted with her in regards to the project sits at zero, at least, zero that have come forward or said anything - not that I could blame them for keeping silent, co-operating with her would paint one as a target to the shower of cunts that keep attacking her. She never speaks about the project, barring reassuring her backers. She doesn't interact with any gaming communities, she never speaks about how she was treated at real-world events like PAX, or DICE Summit.
Call me whatever you wish, but I'm starting to get a bit skeptical about the whole thing, as I would be regarding anyone who has so far promised so much and delivered so little - I can't exclude her from that, just because of her noble cause or admirable intentions. Don't get me wrong, I sincerely hope the project bears fruit, that it's high quality, and receives all of the attention it deserves and more, but that does not change the fact I'm starting to have some serious misgivings about this situation.
Sarkeesian I think has become the opposite of Mik Tyson. Mike is an awful person who has an amazing body of work, at least in boxing. Sarkeesian is a good person who has failed to get her work done.
Wait Wait Wait. Why do people keep saying things like this:

You didn't watch my videos did you... Also, her Feminist Frequency videos or Women in Tropes videos are just the precursors to her video game series (which she hasn't produced or released yet).
Wait Wait Wait. Why do people keep saying things like this: If that's the video series right there?
I should have been clearer - the only things she's produced so far regarding video games - that I can think of off the top of my head, so grain of salt - were one video regarding Bayonetta - low hanging fruit, admittedly, but still, it's a thing - and some IOS game, which I can't comment on, since I've not watched the video yet. At least the former was was pre-kickstarter and It was also...suffice it to say, somewhat fast and loose in it's presentation of the facts, though it did have some very valid points.
Shit like this is why I stopped identifying as a "gamer."
Eh, I still do, simply because this story isn't widespread outside of the internet, and it's a pain in the arse to try and explain to Non-internet people, who will tend to identify you as a gamer if you play games no matter what you'd prefer to call yourself.

You play significantly more video games than I do, though. In terms of single-player games (I'll play whatever if it's with friends), I really just play Fallout and Civ. I'm still a "gamer" in the very broad sense, but I call myself a "board-gamer," because that's a culture with far less bullshit like this, and I play far more table-top games.
This is what she has posted with regards to updates.
To be fair, that's not all she's posted. There have been other missives.

Definitely a fair point. In that case, totally justified.
Yup. You sure aren't mad, video guy, because you are clearly a robot.
BEEP BOOP. HOW IS REMOVING POST-ITS FROM A BASICALLY NAKED WOMAN IN A PUBLIC ADVERTISEMENT DIFFERENT THAN CONSENSUAL SEX. BEEP BOOP. DOES NOT COMPUTE.
Looking at that guy's other videos, he's got hyperbolic shit complaining about the Borderlands 2 "girlfriend" mode controversy and Mass Effect 3's ending. So he's basically every bitchy bitch on the internet distilled into one person, and has convinced himself he's not overreacting because he's speaking in monotone.
Admittedly, I don't follow the controversy involving Anita Sarkeesian beyond the fact that I'm aware it happened/is happening and the video Ro just linked which didn't tell me anything new. My biggest initial question is whether she's really developed language to discuss the subject, supposing that's still her goal, because a lot of what I just saw in that video was vague or generalized. Certainly, she shouldn't be bullied, and all those people attacking her are in the wrong.
I've got no dog in this race, I really don't know anything about her beyond her kickstarter. However, I'm not gonna give the time of day to some random dude who can't seem to figure out the difference between a physical real-life woman who chooses to be a sex worker and a pretend cartoon videogame character who doesn't get to decide what flavor of bondage gear she's dressed up in because she's a pretend cartoon videogame character. Saying that the latter is a problem, because it's endemic, and the former isn't, because it's a real human being making a choice, should not even be in question. Yet, it's pretty much this guy's whole point, masked under the phrase "sex positive", of which he doesn't really seem to understand the meaning. Real girl = cartoon girl, so whatever cartoon girls do that real girls do must be okay, ergo Sarkeesian is wrong. I ridiculed him with good reason, I think, considering his message was "undressing a Bayonetta ad made of post-it notes isn't creepy because when people have consensual sex they get undressed too!"
I mean, how do you respond to that.
Naming his first video "the college graduate" leaves a bad taste in my mouth, because it reeks of this 'eww, higher learning!' mentality, which always slinks its way into these discussions. This can be further seen in like the first minute of the video when he's like "SHE REFERENCES THINGS FOR HER PAPERS" which, um... is a substantial part of most college papers, to my knowledge.
So while I don't know anything about Sarkeesian, I do know quite a bit about this d-bag, because I've seen his archetype in every thread on any sort of marginalization since the internet was born.

Target has a float frames in black in a 16" x 20" for not a bad price.

There should be a way to check off your projects that you've backed that you've received the rewards you pledge towards. I've lost track of a few. >_<
And the comments are turned off because the hate campaign still continues. Stay classy internet assholes.
