So far I've managed to hit around 12k on the PC after about 100 attempts, but I can definitely tell this is going to take a while to get even close to the mobile players.
Some progress, got up to 8,390 before an office building induced an untimely demise. I get the nagging feeling that there's some actual difference in the game itself between the flash and portable versions, but I have no evidence to back this up, so I'll dismiss it.
I wondered what you guys were complaining about with windows appearing below the level of the previous building. I'd never had problems with them because you simply don't jump and you land right in them.
And then, a few games in a row, I ran into a window where the TOP of the window was below the level of the previous building, and right up close. I died both times. I can see how it would be possible to make it, but not by me.

If it's true that the minimum distance in portable versions is 104m and not 101m like in the PC one, there's definitely some difference, even if subtle.
Oh there are easily recognizable differences besides that. The PC flash version doesn't have the "destroyed" buildings by the giant monster legs (actually difficult for me quite often) or the billboards (largely irrelevant) and the viewable distance is different. My anecdotal evidence is also that the algorithm for the android version is slightly more generous and the sound effects for warnings are more noticeable and accurate, probably to compensate for viewable distance.
My main source of death is now hitting two boxes stacked on each other, thinking there is only one, and slowing down too much to make the following jump/get off the crumbling building.
Yeah, that and then a just stupidly long crumbling building is a huge point of failure for me. It also gives me a sad because I "know" there's nothing I can do about it at that point.
I find those robot legs frustrating. I seem to be getting better at them, but I'm still not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do in reaction. My current philosophy is "try to land in the middle of where the former building was".

Same here! The only time I ever went through a window that I would call bullshit on was when it was on a very skinny building, with a double box inside. Jumping over the boxes = death, but hitting both of them meant death to a crumbling building 3 seconds later.
My anecdotal experience is that the PC flash version windows were more likely to do some weird bullshit. I felt like there was a lot more expectation to hit windows at super awkward speeds/angles and dodge and/or hit boxes inside the building than I've felt on the Android version.
My main cause of death are bombs. On runs where I start to build any speed, I get really small platforms with bombs that land on them right next to where I land. If I'm lucky I'm able to jump over them in time, however most of the time I either jump to my death or jump but still hit the bomb. I'm pretty good about the windows and boxes, but some bombs just feel like really cheap deaths.
Bombs are only an annoyance if you're going very fast, mostly because jumping over them can make you miss the building entirely, but then lots of things kill you anyway. It's not that hard to never go that fast in the first place.
Since I discovered the noise warning for the red mist bombs they've never killed me directly, nor caused my death. It's very simple to land on their building as close to the edge as possible to give you plenty of time to judge the next jump.
The disappearing building huge thingy drops are now very rarely fatal for me, as you can get the timing and landing point pretty easily.
Landing on or jumping just as you hit a box slows you down partially, not as much as hitting them dead on. This has helped me avoid furniture in office buildings more safely.
I'm getting many 10k plus runs every time I give the game a go now. My most common cause of death is pure distraction and stupid mistakes, very rarely to do with any hazard. I think I might try pausing a game every four thousand meters to see if coming back to it is helpful in terms of concentration.

Yeah, I agree strongly on your first point - the algorithm feels much more generous in the mobile version.
I also prefer the controls on the mobile version, although the PC version is helped a lot by using a controller, simply due to more responsive buttons. Using a controller gives me essentially the same level of control I was looking for in using macros.
One thing that gets me relatively often is falling buildings just after I've hit a box. Sometimes you still have enough speed to get through them, but it's typically pretty thin.
One of the comments is so dumb/funny on the android store.
"One of the nicer, more impressive android games. The only drawback is the 'one mistake and you're dead', but it's the nature of this type of game. It plays differently each time, too."
The only drawback is the entire mechanic the game hinges on.
That's the part where you feel a bad-wrong! Never-mind that you HAVE to play again.
I definitely would have been bored of this before now without the competition hanging heavy.
Yeah, I agree. Simple is best when you are competing!
I would be 100% happy if the next 3 games in the competition were on both Kongregate and Mobile platforms. Not an endless runner of course, but just something quick play and fun.
I'm kind of dreading an emulator game popping up into the mix. SO much room for abuse/cheating.

The only things that ever kill me are missing windows or super short buildings after long crumbling ones.
My progress has been prodigious but catching you Android folk may be problematic. I'll take pride in getting my points!

Canabalt is perfect. Maybe *too* perfect.
Mad pros for finding it.
